For most Galaxy Tab S10+ owners, moving to the Tab S12+ is a conditional upgrade—not an automatic one. The S12+ brings a slightly larger display, Samsung-claimed improvements in brightness, battery life and processing, and a stated seven-year software-support commitment. Whether those gains justify switching depends on how your S10+ performs today and the actual cost after trade-in.
What changes between the Tab S12+ and Tab S10+?
Both are large 120 Hz AMOLED tablets with an included S Pen and IP68 water- and dust-resistance ratings. The main reasons to consider the S12+ are its display claims, newer processor, slimmer and lighter design, and longer stated support commitment—not a wholesale change to the core experience.

Specifications and availability can differ by market. Samsung’s US comparison lists Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4 for the S12+, while Samsung’s global specifications list Bluetooth 6.0. Check the exact regional model before relying on a Bluetooth-version listing. The comparison page also lists Wi-Fi 6E for the S10+ and Bluetooth 5.3.

The size increase is modest: 12.6 inches versus 12.4 inches, with the same resolution and 120 Hz refresh rate. The potentially larger difference is peak brightness. Samsung India lists 1,600 nits for the S12+ against 650 nits for the S10+. Those are Samsung-published figures, and the regional specification context matters; they are not independent measurements. If your S10+ screen is already comfortable for your typical indoor use, the extra size alone may not make an upgrade worthwhile. Brightness is a stronger consideration if you often use the tablet in bright surroundings, but treat the cited figures as manufacturer claims.

How much faster is the Tab S12+?
The S12+ uses the MediaTek Dimensity 9500, replacing the S10+’s Dimensity 9300+. Samsung India claims the S12+ has a 48% faster CPU, 67% faster GPU and 141% faster NPU than the S10+. These are Samsung’s comparisons, not independently reviewed benchmark results. They indicate where Samsung expects the new processor to improve capability, but they do not establish how much faster a particular app, game or workflow will feel.
If your S10+ already handles your apps, multitasking and games acceptably, a newer processor by itself is a weak reason to replace it. The case is stronger if you routinely run demanding tasks and have noticed performance limits—but base that decision on your own workload, not the advertised percentages alone.

Will the S12+ last longer away from a charger?
The S12+ has a 10,600 mAh battery, compared with 10,090 mAh in the S10+. Samsung’s US comparison gives the S12+ up to 21 hours of video playback and the S10+ up to 16 hours. These are manufacturer-stated maximum estimates, not independent battery-test results, so they should not be read as guaranteed everyday screen time. Your results will depend on how you use the tablet.
What stays the same—and what is not an upgrade?
- Core screen experience: Both models have a 120 Hz Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with the same listed resolution.
- Pen and durability: Both are listed with IP68 ratings and an S Pen in the box. Those shared features do not, on their own, justify changing tablets.
- Memory and storage: Both have 12 GB RAM and listed 256 GB and 512 GB configurations. The US comparison gives the S12+ a higher microSD expansion limit.
- Rear-camera flexibility: The S10+ lists a 13 MP main rear camera and an 8 MP ultrawide; the S12+ lists a single 13 MP rear camera.
How important is the S12+ software-support commitment?
Samsung says the S12 series will receive up to seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates from global launch. The S12+ launches with Android 17. Samsung’s S10+ materials list Android 14 at launch, but the sources cited here do not give a precise end date for its updates. If keeping a tablet current for as long as possible is a priority, the S12+ has a clear stated commitment; do not infer an exact remaining support period for the S10+ from its launch version alone.

Does the price make upgrading worthwhile?
Samsung announced US S12+ availability beginning October 7, 2026, at a launch starting price of $1,199.99. Samsung’s US S10+ launch announcement listed a starting price of $999.99 in 2024. Those are launch prices, not current selling prices. Compare the same storage and connectivity configuration, then subtract a verified trade-in value from the S12+ price. A current deal and your S10+’s condition can change the calculation substantially; the launch MSRP alone cannot determine whether the upgrade is good value.
Availability and configurations vary by market. Samsung’s Global Newsroom says S12-series availability starts October 7 in select markets and notes that specifications may vary. Check the offer and model available where you live.
Should you upgrade from the Tab S10+?
Consider the S12+ if
- You want Samsung’s newer, longer stated software-support commitment.
- You would benefit from the larger screen or Samsung’s claimed brightness improvement.
- Your current tablet is slowing down under your real workload, and the S12+ is available at a price that makes sense after trade-in.
- You value the S12+’s thinner, lighter design or its higher listed microSD expansion limit.
Keep the S10+ if
- It already performs well for your everyday tasks and the display suits your environment.
- The main appeal is a new processor or battery figure, but you have no current performance or endurance problem.
- You rely on the S10+’s additional ultrawide rear camera.
- The price after trade-in is too high for the improvements you would actually use.
Before switching, compare the live price for like-for-like configurations and check that any accessories you plan to keep are compatible with the exact S12+ model. The available specifications do not establish that S10+ accessories fit the S12+.
