Samsung lists location checking and sharing, plus Search Nearby, for supported devices; it does not promise that every SmartTag feature works on iPhone. As of October 3, 2026, the announced first release date—October 7 in Korea—has not yet arrived, so availability and SmartTag3-specific setup instructions may not yet be in place in your market.
1. Confirm that the tag is a Galaxy SmartTag3
Samsung’s September 30, 2026 announcement describes SmartTag3 as the first Galaxy SmartTag generation compatible with both Galaxy and iOS devices. Earlier Galaxy SmartTag models are not included in that compatibility claim. Samsung’s older SmartTag support page says iOS is unsupported, so its instructions do not establish that SmartTag3 is incompatible—and SmartTag3’s iOS support should not be assumed to apply to older tags.

Check the model name on the product packaging or listing before troubleshooting. If you have an earlier SmartTag or SmartTag+, an iPhone compatibility problem is not evidence of a fault with SmartTag3; the older model is outside Samsung’s stated iOS support.
2. Check what Samsung says should work on iPhone
Samsung says SmartTag3 can be used with iOS through SmartThings Find to check and share a tag’s location and use Search Nearby, subject to device support. That is a limited compatibility statement, not a claim of feature parity with Galaxy phones.
#1 Best Overall
- Find your things with ease: The SmartThings Find app uses Bluetooth and ultra-wideband (UWB) technology to locate and keep track of your stuff
- Water and Dust Resistant: IP67 rating offers protection against dust and water immersion between 15 cm and 1 meter for up to 30 minutes
- Compatible with Galaxy Devices Only
| Capability | Samsung’s stated iOS support |
|---|---|
| Check and share the tag’s location | Supported on iOS, subject to device support. |
| Search Nearby | Supported on iOS, subject to device support. |
| Compass View | Unavailable on iOS. |
| Ring Phone | Unavailable on iOS. |
| Left Behind Alert | Unavailable on iOS. |
If the feature you are trying to use is Compass View, Ring Phone, or Left Behind Alert, its absence on an iPhone is expected; it is not a pairing diagnostic. Samsung’s announcement gives a Bluetooth Channel Sounding range of up to 60 meters under line-of-sight conditions, but that figure depends on compatible Galaxy hardware and unobstructed line of sight. It is not an iPhone Compass View range.
3. Check whether SmartTag3 is available in your market yet
Samsung’s global announcement schedules initial availability in Korea beginning October 7, 2026, followed by the United States; additional markets are scheduled to follow in 2027. On October 3, 2026, the Korean start date is still in the future. The announcement does not establish that SmartTag3 is already available to buy or set up in every region. Check local availability and current SmartTag3-specific support information before treating a missing setup option as a device fault.

4. Allow for location updates to depend on the network
A tag’s location is not necessarily refreshed immediately. Samsung says Galaxy Find Network availability and update timing depend on nearby participating Galaxy devices, network conditions, device settings, and regional conditions. Samsung reports that more than 900 million participating Galaxy devices worldwide can act as finding nodes, but that global figure does not guarantee nearby coverage or a particular refresh time where you are. An older location reading by itself does not show that iPhone pairing failed.

5. Use SmartTag3-specific setup guidance—not legacy reset steps
Samsung’s SmartTag3 announcement confirms iOS compatibility but does not specify an iOS version requirement, exact pairing screens, permission prompts, account requirements, or an iPhone-specific reset procedure. Follow current instructions explicitly written for SmartTag3 and iPhone when Samsung publishes them. The older SmartThings Find support article describes the service as Android-only, but it dates from 2022 and predates SmartTag3; it is not authoritative setup guidance for this model on iOS.

Do not assume that a reset or battery-replacement procedure for an earlier SmartTag applies to SmartTag3. Samsung’s legacy instructions describe a physical battery/button reset and removal from SmartThings before moving an older tag to another phone; that guidance covers older models and excludes iOS. Without SmartTag3-specific directions, using those steps could make troubleshooting less reliable.
6. A practical check order
- Verify the model: confirm the label says Galaxy SmartTag3, not an earlier SmartTag generation.
- Match the feature to iOS support: test location checking/sharing or Search Nearby rather than an iOS-unavailable feature.
- Check regional release status: confirm that SmartTag3 has launched and that current Samsung setup guidance is available in your market.
- Give location updates network context: check again under suitable network conditions, keeping in mind nearby participating Galaxy devices and local settings affect updates.
- Escalate using current model-specific guidance: if supported functions still do not work, consult Samsung’s current SmartTag3 instructions or support for the region rather than applying an older model’s reset procedure.
What Samsung’s product figures do—and do not—tell you
Samsung Electronics America says SmartTag3 is approximately 35% smaller by volume and 33% lighter than the previous generation. It also estimates up to 550 days of battery life under standard usage and up to 790 days in Power Saving Mode. Samsung says those battery figures are internal lab estimates using a prerelease device and the in-box CR2032 battery; actual results vary. These product figures do not establish an iPhone setup requirement or diagnose a connection problem.
