What the latest S27 zoom leaks claim
Samsung has not confirmed any Galaxy S27 camera specifications in the sources available as of October 12, 2026. The figures below are leak claims, and the reports have changed over time.

In May, early reporting said the Pro might share the Ultra’s main and ultrawide cameras, but its telephoto details were unknown. The later 12MP 3x claim is best read as an evolving leak, not confirmation that Samsung changed a final design. Android Authority’s May report
Why the alleged 1x-to-5x gap could feel like a step backward
The concern is not simply that one camera has fewer megapixels. If the Ultra really moves from its main camera’s 1x view to a dedicated 5x telephoto, it could lose a useful intermediate optical framing option. A high-resolution main camera might allow cropping for an in-between composition, but a digital crop is not equivalent to a dedicated optical telephoto. The available reports do not establish how an S27 crop would look, how much detail it would retain, or whether Samsung would provide another way to cover that range.
The Ultra’s rumored 4x camera is not a settled alternative
On August 31, Android Authority reported a claim that Samsung was testing a 50MP 4x telephoto with a 1/1.9-inch sensor for the Ultra, while possibly retaining a 5x unit. On September 14, the outlet reported Ice Universe’s rebuttal in favor of a 50MP 5x camera with a 1/2.52-inch sensor. The reported sensor sizes and megapixel counts are not enough to conclude which camera would take better photos. Lens design, sensor performance, processing and real-world testing would matter, and no S27 hands-on tests are available in these reports.

What the leak means for buyers now
The rumored split is disappointing chiefly because it could leave the more expensive-sounding Ultra without the intermediate optical reach associated with 3x, while the Pro reportedly gets a lower-resolution 3x telephoto than earlier leaks suggested. That is an interpretation of unconfirmed specifications, not evidence of a tested downgrade or a verdict on image quality.

Samsung’s 2026 first-quarter report says the Galaxy S26 series launched in March 2026 and lists the S26 Ultra’s 6.9-inch display; it offers prior-generation context, not evidence about S27 cameras. Samsung Electronics 2026 First Quarter Interim Report
For now, compare these rumors by optical focal-length coverage, telephoto resolution and sensor size, and whether a claim describes a prototype or expected shipping hardware. The 9to5Google report says final details were expected with Samsung’s launch, and its early-2027 timing was the outlet’s expectation—not an official launch date. Wait for Samsung’s announcement and independent camera tests before using this leak as a buying reason.
