The Galaxy S24 FE gives you a larger screen and a higher-capacity battery; the Galaxy S24 is notably smaller and lighter, with higher manufacturer-listed peak brightness and higher-resolution telephoto and selfie cameras. Samsung’s US launch prices differed by $150 for their base configurations, but that historical gap is not a current, matched-price comparison.

The specifications below come from Samsung Germany’s comparison of regional models SM-S921B and SM-S721B. Specifications can differ by market or carrier. Prices are separate US launch announcements, not German prices or current offers.

Which phone is easier to carry and use?

The S24 is the better fit if a compact phone matters: at 167 g and 6.2 inches, it is 46 g lighter and 15 mm shorter than the 213 g, 6.7-inch FE. The FE’s larger body makes room for a more expansive display, which may suit video, reading or other screen-heavy use, but it is the bulkier choice.

Which screen is better?

Both are Dynamic AMOLED 2X displays with adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz. Samsung’s comparison lists the S24 at 2,600 nits peak brightness and the FE at 1,900 nits, so the S24 has the higher stated peak figure; these are manufacturer specifications, not results from a comparable display test. The FE, by contrast, offers the larger 6.7-inch viewing area.

Are the cameras meaningfully different?

The listed main and ultrawide resolutions match: both phones have a 50MP main camera and a 12MP ultrawide. Their clearest hardware differences are the telephoto and front cameras:

How do performance, storage and battery compare?

Processor and storage

Samsung lists an Exynos 2400 in the S24 and an Exynos 2400e in the FE, with 8GB RAM for both. Its clock table gives the S24’s top core a 3.2GHz figure and the FE’s a 3.1GHz figure. Those specifications do not establish benchmark results or how noticeable any performance difference is in everyday use. Both are listed with 128GB or 256GB storage, depending on model, and neither supports expandable storage. Compare the same capacity when checking prices.

SAMSUNG Galaxy S23 5G, US Version, 128GB, Phantom Black - Unlocked (Renewed)
  • Galaxy S23 sports a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X flat display with adaptive 48–120 Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and a peak brightness high enough for strong outdoor visibility — giving you vibrant, crisp visuals and smooth motion while staying compact.

Battery and charging

The FE’s listed battery capacity is 4,700mAh versus 4,000mAh for the S24. Capacity alone does not show how long either phone lasts between charges; no comparable endurance test is established here. Both support 25W wired fast charging and wireless charging. Samsung’s FE launch announcement says its 25W charging can reach around 50% in 30 minutes under the stated laboratory setup, and says the power adapter is sold separately. Actual charging can vary with conditions and equipment.

What was the launch-price difference?

Samsung US announced a $799.99 starting price for the 128GB S24 on January 17, 2024, and a $649.99 starting price for the S24 FE on September 26, 2024. Subtracting those figures gives a $150 difference between the announced base launch prices. They were published at different times and do not show today’s prices or establish a like-for-like comparison for the same storage, seller, or carrier status.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra 5G, 256GB, Titanium Violet - Unlocked (Renewed)
  • 6.8″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and up to ~2600 nits peak brightness — delivering a bright, sharp screen with smooth scrolling and great outdoor visibility.

Samsung’s US FE product page displayed “From $649.99 before eligible trade-in” when checked for this comparison. That wording is conditional on an eligible trade-in and does not establish a matching current S24 price. For a purchase decision, compare both phones in the same market at the same time, with the same storage, unlocked or carrier status, condition, trade-in assumptions, and total checkout price.

Which one should you choose?

  • Choose the S24 if you want the smaller, lighter phone, prefer the higher listed peak-brightness figure, or value its higher-resolution telephoto and front-camera specifications.
  • Choose the S24 FE if you want a larger display and higher stated battery capacity, and are comfortable with a larger, heavier handset.
  • Compare current prices before deciding on value. The $150 figure is a difference between historical US launch prices, not proof that one model is the better deal today.
