The Galaxy S24 Ultra is the larger phone, adds an S Pen, and has separate 3x and 5x telephoto cameras. The iPhone 17 Pro is smaller and lighter, with three 48MP rear cameras and Apple’s A19 Pro chip. Choose based on size, camera framing, handwriting needs, and the apps and devices you already use—not on an unverified claim that one is faster, takes better photos, or lasts longer.

Which phone has the bigger screen?
The S24 Ultra’s 6.8-inch display gives you more screen area for reading, video, and multitasking. The iPhone 17 Pro’s 6.3-inch display is the more compact option. Both support refresh rates up to 120Hz, though Samsung describes its panel as adaptive 1–120Hz and Apple specifies ProMotion up to 120Hz.

That may matter if you prefer one-handed handling or a smaller device, while the Samsung’s larger panel may suit tasks where more viewing space is useful.
#1 Best Overall
- 6.8″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and up to ~2600 nits peak brightness — delivering a bright, sharp screen with smooth scrolling and great outdoor visibility.
How do the cameras compare?
The two camera systems offer different optical reach. Samsung lists dedicated 3x and 5x telephoto cameras alongside a main and ultra-wide camera. Apple lists a 4x telephoto and describes 8x optical-quality framing, as well as up to 40x digital zoom. Those labels describe different camera and framing capabilities; they are not a controlled image-quality comparison.
The S24 Ultra’s 200MP main sensor and Apple’s three 48MP rear cameras are resolution specifications, not scores for sharpness, color, low-light performance, or overall photo quality. The available specifications do not establish which phone takes better pictures in real use.
Rank #2
- 6.8″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and up to ~2600 nits peak brightness — delivering a bright, sharp screen with smooth scrolling and great outdoor visibility.
Does the S24 Ultra include an S Pen?
Yes. Samsung’s support information describes S Pen functions such as writing in Samsung Notes and composing messages or email. If you regularly handwrite notes, annotate, or sketch, the built-in pen capability is a concrete reason to favor the S24 Ultra. The cited iPhone specifications do not identify a comparable built-in pen feature.

Which phone is faster or has better battery life?
The listed processors are Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy and Apple A19 Pro, but processor names alone do not establish which phone is faster. There is no comparable benchmark or sustained-load test in the available evidence, so a performance winner cannot be named from these specifications.
Rank #3
- 6.8″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and up to ~2600 nits peak brightness — delivering a bright, sharp screen with smooth scrolling and great outdoor visibility.
Samsung states a typical battery capacity of 5,000mAh. Apple’s cited technical-specification page does not publish battery capacity. Since those are not comparable runtime measurements—and capacity alone does not determine endurance—the figures do not show which phone lasts longer. No like-for-like battery test is available here.

The available figures are historical launch or review-era US prices, not current matched offers:
Rank #4
- 6.8″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and up to ~2600 nits peak brightness — delivering a bright, sharp screen with smooth scrolling and great outdoor visibility.
- Galaxy S24 Ultra: Samsung announced a US starting price of $1,299.99 in January 2024, with 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage options. See Samsung’s launch announcement.
- iPhone 17 Pro: Tom’s Guide reported a US starting price of $1,099 for the 256GB model in its 2025 review-era pricing. It also listed $1,299 for 512GB and $1,499 for 1TB. See Tom’s Guide’s iPhone 17 Pro review.
Although those starting figures differ by $200.99, they come from different release moments and are not a current like-for-like price comparison. They do not establish what either phone costs today. Before deciding on price, compare the same storage capacity in your country and check that both listings match on condition, seller, warranty, and carrier or trade-in requirements.

Quick Recap
Best Value
- 6.8″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and up to ~2600 nits peak brightness — delivering a bright, sharp screen with smooth scrolling and great outdoor visibility.
How to choose between the two
- Pick around size: favor the S24 Ultra if you want a 6.8-inch display; consider the 6.3-inch iPhone if compact dimensions and lower listed weight matter more.
- Pick around optical reach: Samsung lists separate 3x and 5x telephoto cameras; Apple lists a 4x telephoto and 8x optical-quality framing. Think about the framing you use rather than comparing megapixel totals.
- Choose the S Pen for handwriting: it is most relevant if notes, annotations, or sketches are part of how you use a phone.
- Consider your existing ecosystem: the sources establish that one is a Galaxy phone and one is an iPhone, but do not provide a controlled comparison of apps, services, or connected devices. Your existing setup and preferences should guide this part of the choice.
- Normalize the price: compare identical storage tiers, market, condition, seller, warranty, and carrier terms rather than relying on historical starting prices.
