Galaxy S24 FE vs. Motorola Edge 50 Ultra: Which Should You Buy?

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Galaxy S24 FE is the safer long-term purchase. The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra is the more ambitious hardware bargain when it is substantially cheaper and officially supported in your country. Samsung wins on documented updates, ecosystem integration, flat design and ownership confidence. Motorola wins on display resolution and refresh rate, charging speed, RAM, storage and lighter hardware.

Because these are 2024 phones and regional versions differ, confirm the exact model, price, storage, warranty and network support before comparing listings.

Design and display

Motorola has the more striking screen

The Edge 50 Ultra combines a 1.5K 2712 × 1220 pOLED panel, 144Hz refresh rate, 10-bit colour, HDR10+ and Motorola’s claimed 2,800-nit peak brightness. That gives it the stronger specification story for fine text, high-refresh gaming and premium visual impact.

Samsung is flatter and easier to live with

The S24 FE uses a 6.7-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with adaptive 60/120Hz refresh and Vision Booster. 120Hz is already smooth; 144Hz does not automatically look 20% smoother in everyday apps. Samsung’s flat panel is simpler to protect and less prone to accidental edge touches than a curved or borderless design.

Do not compare the two brightness figures as laboratory results: Motorola’s 2,800-nit number is a manufacturer claim, and brightness depends on test method and viewing mode. Both cited specifications list IP68 protection, which does not guarantee resistance to every liquid, impact or warranty claim.

Performance, gaming and multitasking

The Edge 50 Ultra uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, while the S24 FE uses Samsung’s Exynos 2400e. Motorola also offers 12GB or 16GB RAM and UFS 4.0 storage in listed configurations, versus Samsung’s 8GB and region-dependent storage options.

That makes Motorola the stronger hardware proposition for demanding users, but not a proven universal performance winner. Peak benchmarks, sustained heat, game settings and frame-rate stability require controlled testing of the same storage and RAM tiers. The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 is also not the same class as Qualcomm’s top “8” flagship chips.

Samsung Galaxy S24 FE, 128GB, Graphite - Unlocked (Renewed)
  • The Galaxy S24 FE packs a large 6.7‑inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with adaptive 120 Hz refresh rate, enhanced brightness and a “Vision Booster” mode — ideal for clear, bright visuals even outdoors.

For ordinary app launching and multitasking, both are high-end 2024 phones. Motorola’s extra memory should keep more apps resident; Samsung’s 8GB is adequate now but gives less headroom for very long ownership.

Camera comparison

Hardware advantage: Motorola

The Edge 50 Ultra lists a 50MP main camera, 50MP ultrawide and 64MP 3x telephoto, with optical stabilisation on the main and telephoto cameras. The S24 FE has a 50MP OIS main camera, 12MP ultrawide and 8MP OIS 3x telephoto. Samsung highlights its ProVisual Engine and Galaxy AI-assisted camera features; Motorola positions its system as Pantone Validated.

What the specifications cannot prove

Megapixel counts do not establish better photographs. Meaningful differences depend on daylight detail, backlit HDR, skin tones, night noise, moving-subject shutter lag, ultrawide quality, portrait rendering, video stabilisation, autofocus, audio and selfie processing. Motorola looks stronger on camera hardware, especially ultrawide and telephoto resolution. Samsung remains the more defensible choice when predictable point-and-shoot processing and its camera app matter, but that is an output judgement that should be based on independent samples rather than the specification sheet alone.

Battery life and charging

Samsung has the larger rated battery at 4,700mAh versus Motorola’s 4,500mAh. Capacity alone does not establish longer endurance: resolution, refresh rate, modem use, processor efficiency and software tuning all affect screen-on time.

Samsung Galaxy S24 FE, 128GB, Blue - Unlocked (Renewed)
  • The Galaxy S24 FE packs a large 6.7‑inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with adaptive 120 Hz refresh rate, enhanced brightness and a “Vision Booster” mode — ideal for clear, bright visuals even outdoors.

The practical difference is charging. Motorola advertises 125W TurboPower wired charging and up to 50W wireless charging when compatible Motorola hardware is used. Verify whether the required charger or wireless stand is included in your package; maximum speed may require proprietary accessories and can vary with heat and the charge level. Samsung supports wireless charging, but use the documentation for your regional model for exact wired and wireless rates.

In short, Samsung has more battery capacity; Motorola is much faster to refill. Neither fact alone proves better battery health over several years.

Software, features and updates

Samsung’s support promise changes the value calculation

Samsung says the S24 FE receives seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates from the global launch date, as described in its launch announcement. That is the clearest reason to choose it for four or more years of ownership.

One UI adds Galaxy AI features such as Circle to Search, translation, transcription, Smart Select and object editing where supported, plus broad integration with Galaxy Watch, Buds, tablets, SmartThings and Samsung accounts. Availability can vary by region, language, account and software version. DeX-related workflows are another Samsung-specific advantage.

Motorola is cleaner but less certain long term

My UX is generally lighter, while Motorola adds gestures, customization, Moto Secure and Smart Connect/Ready For features. Android 14 at launch is documented, but an exact Edge 50 Ultra support end date was not established for every market. Motorola’s support system states that update timing varies by region, carrier, product and sales channel; check the device-specific policy before buying at Motorola’s security-update support page.

Therefore, Samsung’s seven-year policy is documented; Motorola’s exact term must be verified for your model and country.

Storage, build and regional risks

The S24 FE is listed with 128GB, 256GB and 512GB variants depending on market. Motorola lists 512GB/12GB and 1TB/16GB versions in some regions. Neither cited configuration includes a microSD slot. Choose 256GB as a sensible minimum for substantial video recording, and 512GB for games, offline media and long ownership.

Motorola is narrower and 16g lighter at 197g, with dimensions of 161.09 × 72.38 × 8.59mm. Samsung is 213g and 77.3 × 162.0 × 8.0mm. Edge finishes may be vegan leather or real wood depending on colourway; confirm the exact listing. A curved display can look premium but is harder to protect and may cost more to repair.

Checklist for an imported Edge 50 Ultra

  • Exact model number and firmware region
  • 4G/5G bands, VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling on your carrier
  • eSIM and dual-SIM behaviour
  • Local warranty, repair route and return rights
  • Google services and update eligibility
  • Charger plug, voltage and whether the 125W charger is included

Value at 2026 prices

There is no reliable single August 2026 price that applies across countries and configurations. Do not compare a US MSRP with an imported-market deal, a carrier-financed price with an unlocked phone, or a used Motorola with a new Samsung. Record country, currency, date, storage, condition, seller, warranty, charger inclusion, taxes, shipping, trade-in and financing requirements.

Use this threshold instead:

  • Prices close: choose the S24 FE for support, local service and ecosystem value.
  • Motorola substantially cheaper with official support: its display, charging, storage and lighter body make it compelling.
  • Motorola imported: demand a larger discount to cover band, warranty, firmware and charger uncertainty.

A 2025 Verizon equipment document listed historical S24 FE prices of $649.99 for 128GB and $709.99 for 256GB; those figures are not current universal prices. See the document only as historical context.

Which phone should you buy?

Choose the Galaxy S24 FE if

  • You will keep the phone for four years or longer.
  • Security updates and a known local service path matter.
  • You use Galaxy Watch, Buds, tablets or SmartThings.
  • You prefer a flat display and 3x optical zoom.
  • You want the safer choice at similar prices.

Choose the Edge 50 Ultra if

  • It is officially sold and supported in your country.
  • It is clearly cheaper or offers far more storage for the same money.
  • 125W charging, a 144Hz 1.5K display and a lighter body are priorities.
  • You want 12GB/16GB RAM and 512GB/1TB storage.
  • You are willing to verify bands, warranty, charger and updates.

Reconsider either deal when

  • The S24 FE costs nearly as much as a newer flagship.
  • The Motorola seller cannot identify the model or warranty region.
  • You need guaranteed US-carrier compatibility without checking the SKU.
  • You require maximum charging speed but the correct Motorola charger is unavailable.

Bottom line

Buy the Galaxy S24 FE when long-term support, Samsung’s ecosystem and lower ownership risk matter most. Buy the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra when its local, supported price is substantially lower and you specifically value its sharper 144Hz display, extremely fast charging, larger memory/storage options and lighter design. If both cost the same, Samsung is the better default; Motorola earns the recommendation through a meaningful hardware or price advantage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the Galaxy S24 FE and Edge 50 Ultra direct competitors?

Does the Edge 50 Ultra definitely have better cameras?

It has higher-resolution ultrawide and telephoto hardware on the listed configuration, but megapixels do not prove better photos. Camera output depends on processing, HDR, night performance, autofocus and video results.

Is 144Hz noticeably better than 120Hz?

It can benefit supported games and scrolling, but 120Hz is already smooth and the difference is not automatically obvious in everyday use.
