The Galaxy S26 is newer and has a larger display, 12GB of RAM, a newer market-dependent processor and a higher-capacity battery. The Galaxy S23 5G is slightly smaller, and the two phones share the same headline rear-camera resolutions in the cited comparison. For a US 256GB unlocked MSRP comparison, the S26’s March 2026 list price is $40 above the S23’s May 2024 list price—but those dated MSRPs do not establish today’s price difference.

What the display, size and performance differences mean
Display and handling
The S26’s display is larger by the full-rectangle measurement, while Samsung’s rounded-corner convention puts its viewable diagonal at 6.1 inches. Both are listed at 1080 × 2340 pixels, so the smaller S23 panel has the higher cited pixel density: 422 ppi versus 409 ppi. The S26 is 3.3mm taller and 0.8mm wider, but 0.4mm thinner; it is one gram lighter in the cited figures. The dimensions suggest only a modest change in handling, not a heavier phone.
#1 Best Overall
- Galaxy S23 sports a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X flat display with adaptive 48–120 Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and a peak brightness high enough for strong outdoor visibility — giving you vibrant, crisp visuals and smooth motion while staying compact.
Processor and memory
The S26 has 12GB of RAM, compared with 8GB listed for the S23. Its processor is either Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy or Exynos 2600, depending on market, so check the chip in the specific regional model rather than assuming every S26 is identical. The comparison lists Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for the S23.
Battery and charging
The S26’s typical battery capacity is 4,300mAh, compared with 3,900mAh listed for the S23. Capacity alone does not establish longer real-world battery life; display settings, signal conditions, software and workload also matter. Samsung’s S26 charging figure—up to 55% in around 30 minutes with a 25W adapter—is a lab-condition result, not a guarantee for every charging session. Samsung says the adapter and cable are sold separately; bundled accessories may differ by market.

Are the S26 and S23 cameras different?
The cited comparison lists the same headline resolutions for both phones’ rear cameras: a 50MP main, 12MP ultrawide and 10MP telephoto. That does not establish that they take identical photos or that one is better; megapixel counts are not a substitute for matched camera testing.
Samsung describes the S26’s main camera as offering 2× optical-quality zoom using its Adaptive Pixel sensor, and its telephoto camera as offering 3× optical zoom. These are different claims: 2× optical-quality zoom is not a separate dedicated optical telephoto step. The available specifications do not provide a controlled, side-by-side image-quality result for the two phones.

Rank #4
- It offers a 6.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with adaptive 48-120 Hz refresh rate plus up to ~ 1750 nits peak brightness and “Vision Booster,” meaning the screen stays bright and viewable even in strong sunlight — great if you use your phone outdoors a lot.
Which phone makes more sense for you?
Choose the S26 if
- You want the newer generation, more listed RAM and a larger full-rectangle display.
- You prefer the larger listed battery capacity, while recognizing that capacity does not by itself predict endurance.
- You can verify the processor and storage configuration offered in your market and the actual price you would pay.
Consider the S23 if
- You prefer a compact 6.1-inch phone and the S23 is available at a materially lower current price.
- The S23’s storage, condition, regional model and carrier compatibility meet your needs.
- You are weighing camera performance: the listed camera resolutions alone do not show a decisive difference, so look for comparable photo testing rather than inferring quality from megapixels.
Update-support duration and warranty terms are not established by the cited specifications and price documents, so check Samsung’s current regional terms before making those part of the decision.
