The Galaxy S23 5G and iPhone 17 differ most in platform, camera layout, storage choices and SIM support. Samsung’s 2023 Android flagship has a dedicated 3x optical telephoto camera and a cited U.S. carrier configuration with 128GB or 256GB storage; Apple’s newer iPhone 17 runs iOS, has two rear cameras and starts at 256GB in Apple’s listed configurations. There is no reliable single price gap without matching country, storage, condition, seller and carrier-lock status.

What changes most in everyday use?
Android and iOS
The S23 runs Android and uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy; the iPhone 17 runs iOS with Apple’s A19 chip. The choice of operating system and compatibility with the apps, services and devices you already use are more useful decision points than a speed ranking: the cited specifications do not establish a measured performance winner.
Screen size and refresh rate
The iPhone 17 has the larger listed diagonal: 6.3 inches versus 6.1 inches on the S23. Both specifications cite adaptive refresh rates reaching 120Hz. Their display technologies and measurement conventions differ, so diagonal and refresh rate alone do not establish which screen looks better.
#1 Best Overall
- Galaxy S23 sports a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X flat display with adaptive 48–120 Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and a peak brightness high enough for strong outdoor visibility — giving you vibrant, crisp visuals and smooth motion while staying compact.
Zoom and camera layout
The S23 has three rear cameras, including a separate telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. The iPhone 17 has two rear cameras; Apple describes 2x optical-quality telephoto using the main camera. That is a meaningful hardware difference if you often frame distant subjects, but camera count, zoom labels and megapixels do not prove which phone takes better photographs. No controlled camera comparison is established here.
Battery and water resistance
Samsung states a typical 3,900mAh capacity for the S23 and cautions that actual battery life varies with network environment, usage patterns and other factors. Apple’s cited iPhone 17 specifications do not provide an equivalent mAh figure. Capacity is not runtime, and the available figures do not support a battery-life winner. Likewise, IP68 is a rating under specified test conditions—not a guarantee against liquid damage in everyday use.

How to compare the price difference fairly
There is no dependable universal price difference to quote: prices and availability depend on market and seller, and the cited specifications do not establish a matched current retail-price pair. The S23 launched in 2023, while Apple identifies 2025 as the iPhone 17’s introduction year; launch prices from different years would not answer what either costs now.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Choose your market. Compare prices in the same country and currency, including applicable taxes if sellers display them differently.
- Match storage. The cited U.S. S23 sheet includes 128GB and 256GB, while Apple lists 256GB and 512GB for iPhone 17. For the clearest comparison, match 256GB against 256GB; a 128GB S23 is not a like-for-like storage comparison.
- Match condition and lock status. Compare new with new, or refurbished with refurbished, and check whether both phones are carrier-locked or unlocked.
- Compare the same kind of offer. Check whether the advertised amount is an outright price or depends on a carrier plan, trade-in, financing or promotion. Confirm seller, warranty and stock before deciding.
- Calculate the difference. Subtract the S23’s matched offer from the iPhone 17’s matched offer. A positive result means the iPhone 17 costs more in that comparison; it is not a global or permanent price gap.
Which phone makes more sense for you?
- Consider the S23 if you prefer Android, want a dedicated 3x optical telephoto camera, or find a suitable 128GB or 256GB model at a compelling local price.
- Consider the iPhone 17 if you prefer iOS, want Apple’s listed 256GB or 512GB storage choices, or value its larger 6.3-inch display.
- Check SIM compatibility before buying either. The cited iPhone 17 configuration is eSIM-only, while Samsung’s cited sheet lists Nano-SIM and eSIM. Verify the precise regional model and carrier support, especially if you need a physical SIM.
- Verify the exact regional model. Storage, SIM configuration and listed specifications can vary by market or SKU; confirm details with the seller or manufacturer for the model you will receive.
Sources and specification dates
Samsung’s S23 specifications come from launch-era and regional materials for the 2023 phone. Apple’s iPhone 17 specifications are for the model introduced in 2025; Apple’s iPhone 17 identification information lists its introduction year. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent tests of speed, camera quality or battery runtime.
