Size and display: compact S22 or larger S23 FE?
The S22 is the clear pick if you want a compact phone. Its 6.1-inch display sits in a body measuring 146.0 × 70.6mm, and Samsung lists its weight as 167g on its Spain page or 168g in its US launch announcement. The S23 FE’s 6.4-inch screen comes in a 158.0 × 76.5mm body weighing 209g. That is a noticeable increase in both footprint and weight, not just a modest screen upgrade.
Both have FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X displays and 120Hz refresh rates. Samsung describes the S23 FE rate as adaptive; the S22 specification lists up to 120Hz. Prefer the S23 FE if the extra screen area matters more than pocketability and one-handed handling.

Battery: higher capacity does not guarantee longer runtime
Samsung lists typical capacities of 3,700mAh for the S22 and 4,500mAh for the S23 FE. The S23 FE therefore has the larger stated battery, but capacity alone does not establish how long either phone lasts in everyday use. Screen size, processor variant, settings, signal conditions, and workload all affect runtime.
Samsung Philippines gives an estimate of up to 22 hours of video playback for a specific S23 FE test using stored 720p video. That vendor estimate is not a directly comparable S22 test, so it should not be used to claim a measured battery-life win over the S22. Samsung says the S22’s 3,700mAh typical capacity is an estimated average under IEC 61960 testing and that actual battery life varies. Rank #2
- The S23 FE offers a 6.4‑inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with adaptive 120 Hz refresh rate and up to 1,450 nits peak brightness plus a wide DCI‑P3 color gamut. That means vibrant, high‑contrast visuals that stay bright and legible even outdoors.
Cameras: similar layout, different telephoto resolution
Both phones have a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization and a 12MP ultrawide. The S22 lists a 10MP telephoto camera; the S23 FE lists an 8MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. This is a specification difference, not proof that one phone takes better photos. Megapixel counts alone cannot establish image quality, and the available specifications do not provide a controlled head-to-head camera test.

The S23 FE does not have one chipset across all markets. Samsung’s Ireland and Philippines specifications list Exynos 2200, while Samsung Canada lists Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Confirm the region and exact model number on the seller’s listing or device details before making a performance comparison. The S22’s US launch announcement describes an advanced 4nm application processor but does not identify a single global platform, so that description is not enough to establish a universal S22-versus-S23-FE performance ranking.

Price difference: why one number would be misleading
The only specific price established here is historical: Samsung announced a US starting price of $799.99 for the Galaxy S22 on February 9, 2022, with availability beginning February 25, 2022. That is a launch price, not a current asking price. A comparable current price for both phones has not been established, so there is no defensible present-day price difference to state.

Which phone should you choose?
Choose the Galaxy S22 if
- You want the smaller, lighter handset and are comfortable with a 6.1-inch display.
- You prefer its listed 10MP telephoto specification over the S23 FE’s 8MP telephoto, without treating that figure as a guarantee of better photos.
- You find a suitable local offer after checking storage, condition, carrier status, and warranty.
Choose the Galaxy S23 FE 5G if
- You want a larger 6.4-inch screen and do not mind the larger, heavier body.
- You value its higher stated typical battery capacity, while understanding that capacity does not prove longer real-world runtime.
- You have verified whether the specific regional model uses Exynos 2200 or Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and have compared a like-for-like local offer.
