Galaxy S22 Ultra vs Galaxy S25: Which Fits Your Priorities?

The S22 Ultra offers a larger WQHD+ screen and built-in S Pen; the S25 is smaller and has a longer announced software-support commitment. Current prices need a like-for-like check.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra and Galaxy S25 make different trade-offs: the S22 Ultra has a much larger, sharper display and an integrated S Pen, while the newer S25 is smaller and carries a longer announced software-support commitment. The available evidence does not establish a current, like-for-like price gap, so the right choice depends on what you value and the offers available in your region.

How these phones differ in size and tier

This is a comparison between a former Ultra model and a newer base model, not two phones in the same size class. Samsung lists the S22 Ultra with a 6.8-inch WQHD+ display and the S25 with a 6.2-inch FHD+ display; both are rated for refresh rates up to 120Hz. The S22 Ultra is the larger, higher-resolution option, while the S25’s smaller screen may suit someone who prefers a more compact phone.

Samsung’s U.S. S22 Ultra specification sheet lists peak brightness of 1,750 nits, while its S25 business specification sheet lists 2,600 nits. These figures come from different documents and are not equivalent side-by-side test results, so they do not establish which screen looks brighter in everyday use. The S25 sheet describes its refresh rate as adaptive.

Which phone has the camera and battery advantage?

The S22 Ultra’s published camera hardware is well documented: four rear cameras, including two telephoto cameras, and a 40MP front camera. Samsung’s sheet also lists 10x optical zoom and up to 100x Space Zoom. Those are specifications, not proof of image quality at any zoom level.

The cited S25 specification extract does not provide its camera array, and it does not establish its battery capacity. There is no independent side-by-side camera, speed or battery-life test in the available evidence. That means these materials cannot support a reliable claim that either phone takes better pictures, runs faster or lasts longer per charge.

Software support: the S25 has the longer announced runway

Samsung’s February 9, 2022 policy announcement extended eligible Galaxy S22 devices to up to four generations of Android and One UI upgrades and up to five years of security updates. The policy uses “up to”; eligibility and update delivery depend on the device and rollout.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For the S25 series, Samsung announced seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates from global launch. Samsung says timing can vary by model, network provider and market. This is a longer announced commitment than the S22 policy, but it is not a guarantee that every update arrives everywhere at the same time.

What is the price difference?

A responsible current dollar difference cannot be calculated from the available price evidence: it establishes one S25 offer, but no comparable S22 Ultra offer. Samsung’s U.S. purchase page listed the unlocked 256GB Galaxy S25 for $899.99 when accessed on October 7, 2026. That is a dated U.S. reference, not a guaranteed live price or a price for other countries, storage sizes or sellers.

For a meaningful comparison, check a current S22 Ultra offer against the same market and, as closely as possible, the same storage capacity and unlocked or carrier-locked status. Compare condition, seller and warranty too: a used or refurbished phone is not directly equivalent to a new retail unit. The S22 Ultra’s price can vary with those factors, so avoid treating an unmatched listing as a definitive price gap.

Which one should you choose?

Choose the Galaxy S22 Ultra if

  • You want a large 6.8-inch WQHD+ screen.
  • You use a stylus and want the S Pen stored inside the phone.
  • You value the documented telephoto camera setup and want to judge a used or refurbished offer on its individual condition and warranty.

Choose the Galaxy S25 if

  • You prefer a smaller 6.2-inch phone over the S22 Ultra’s 6.8-inch display.
  • A longer announced OS-upgrade and security-update commitment is a priority.
  • You are considering a new unlocked 256GB phone and want a dated U.S. price reference to compare with current local offers.

If you already own an S22 Ultra, these specifications alone do not establish that upgrading will improve your camera results, speed or battery life. The clearer reasons to move are wanting a smaller phone or prioritizing the S25’s longer announced support commitment. If you are buying used, make the decision only after checking a current, condition- and storage-matched offer.
