To disconnect an account from a Galaxy phone or tablet, open Settings > Accounts and backup > Manage accounts, select the Samsung or Google account, tap Remove account, and follow the prompts. This removes the account from that device; it does not by itself permanently delete the online account. Samsung and Google accounts are separate accounts, not one combined account.
Remove an account from a Galaxy phone or tablet
- Open Settings.
- Tap Accounts and backup, then Manage accounts.
- Select the Samsung or Google account you want to remove.
- Tap Remove account and confirm the prompts shown on the device.
Samsung’s US instructions say removing a Samsung account may require signing out and entering the Samsung account password. Removing a Google account may prompt you to verify your identity when device-protection features are enabled. Follow the on-screen verification; do not try to bypass it. Samsung’s Galaxy account-removal instructions cover both account types.

Menu names can differ by software version or carrier. If the path does not match, use Settings search for “Manage accounts” or “Accounts.” Samsung notes that available screens and settings vary. Samsung Australia’s guide gives the same basic route for Australian-variant Galaxy devices, but its labels may not match other regional variants: Samsung Australia’s Google account instructions.

What account removal changes—and what it does not
Removing an account from the phone is different from deleting it online. Google says the account’s associated email, contacts, and settings are removed from the device. Samsung says a removed Samsung account can be added again and explicitly distinguishes device removal from permanent account deletion. To delete either online account, you would need to take a separate account-deletion action.

If Google is the only Google account on the device, Android may ask for the device PIN, pattern, or password before removal. Google lists the usual Android route as Settings > Passwords & accounts; depending on the device, the section may instead be called Users & accounts, Passwords, passkeys & autofill, Password, passkeys & accounts, or Manage accounts. Select the account, choose Remove account, and confirm. Some Google steps apply only to Android 14 and later. See Google’s Android account instructions.
Remove the account or only stop syncing?

If you only want to stop updates for certain data, look for sync settings before removing the entire account. Samsung’s sync guidance describes disabling automatic synchronization or individual Google sync items, but the article is in Korean and includes Android 9–12-era menu paths. Exact labels and availability may differ on current devices; check per-account or per-item controls where available, since a global automatic-sync setting can affect other registered accounts too. If the menus or prompts differ
- You cannot find Manage accounts: Search Settings for “Accounts” or “Manage accounts,” then open the account-management result.
- Android asks for a PIN or other credential: Enter the device credential requested. If Google is the only Google account on the device, this prompt can be part of account removal.
- Samsung asks for a password: Enter the Samsung account password when prompted to complete sign-out and removal.
- A verification or protection screen appears: Complete the device’s requested identity check rather than attempting to bypass protection.
Removing an account is not a complete checklist for preparing a phone for sale or transfer. These account-removal instructions do not establish the other steps that may be needed for that situation.
