Prices in India are not consistent enough in the available listings to support one dependable price-gap figure, and Xiaomi publishes different battery capacities for India and global markets.
At a glance: the main differences
| Feature | Samsung Galaxy A36 5G | Xiaomi Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G |
|---|---|---|
| Display | 6.7-inch Super AMOLED, FHD+, 120Hz | 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED, up to 120Hz |
| Typical battery capacity | 5,000mAh | 8,340mAh on Xiaomi’s global page; 9,000mAh on Xiaomi India’s page |
| Wired charging | Up to 45W | 67W |
| Processor information published in the cited pages | Octa-core; the cited India specification excerpt does not clearly identify the full chipset name | Snapdragon 6s Gen 4, up to 2.4GHz |
| Rear cameras | 50MP main with OIS, 8MP ultrawide, 5MP macro | 50MP main with OIS, 8MP ultrawide |

These are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent measurements. A larger battery rating, higher refresh rate or more megapixels does not by itself prove longer runtime, a smoother experience or better photos.

Display: Redmi is larger and higher-resolution on paper
Xiaomi lists a 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED screen with a maximum 120Hz refresh rate. Samsung lists a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh. The Redmi therefore offers more screen area and higher listed resolution, which may suit reading, video and games; the specifications alone cannot establish which screen looks better in person.

Samsung lists the A36 with a 5,000mAh typical battery and charging up to 45W. Xiaomi’s global REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G page specifies an 8,340mAh typical battery and 67W charging, while Xiaomi India lists 9,000mAh typical capacity and the same 67W charging. Those Xiaomi figures are a regional specification discrepancy, not a single universal capacity. Check the official page and exact SKU for the market where you will use the phone.

Capacity is not the same as tested battery life. No comparable independent runtime test is established here, so the published ratings cannot say how many hours either phone will last in a particular person’s use.
What comes in the box in India
Xiaomi India says the package includes a 67W charger. Samsung India lists the A36 box contents as the phone, data cable and ejection pin, and says a travel adapter is not included. Confirm package contents with the local seller, especially when buying an imported or region-specific unit.
Performance: published details do not establish a speed winner
Xiaomi identifies the Redmi’s processor as Snapdragon 6s Gen 4, built on a 4nm process and clocked up to 2.4GHz. Samsung India’s cited A36 specifications identify an octa-core processor, but the surfaced specification excerpt does not clearly name its full chipset. Without a controlled, comparable test, the chipset label and maximum clock rate are not enough to rank everyday speed, gaming performance or heat management.

- Please note, this device does not support eSIM. This device is compatible with T-Mobile networks and its MVNOs in the United States, carrier compatibility, activation, and network performance may vary depending on IMEI acceptance policies, carrier requirements, regional network support, and available frequency bands.

Cameras: compare the hardware, not just the megapixel counts
The A36’s listed rear setup consists of a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), an 8MP ultrawide and a 5MP macro camera. Xiaomi lists a 50MP OIS main camera and an 8MP ultrawide for the Redmi. The Samsung page therefore lists an additional macro camera, while both specifications include stabilized 50MP main cameras and ultrawide lenses.
These component lists do not establish photo or video quality. No comparable camera test is established here, and megapixel counts alone do not show how well a phone handles detail, motion, low light or video.
Software support: Samsung’s commitment is clearer
Samsung India promises six generations of OS upgrades and six years of security updates for the Galaxy A36 5G; its product page gives March 31, 2031 as the end date for the security-update period. Xiaomi India lists the Redmi with HyperOS 3 based on Android 16, but the cited page does not give a comparable multi-year update duration. A current operating-system version is not a substitute for a stated support term.

Price difference in India: the listings do not make a reliable head-to-head
The available figures are snapshots from different pages and do not establish a stable price gap. Samsung India’s purchase page showed an offer of ₹33,999 for the A36 8GB/128GB, against an MRP of ₹39,499, and ₹37,999 for the 8GB/256GB, against an MRP of ₹43,999. A 91mobiles comparison listing showed ₹25,999 for the Galaxy A36 and ₹36,998 for the Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G, but the surfaced result did not reliably match the Redmi price to a current seller and storage configuration. The Samsung store offer and comparison listing conflict, so subtracting these figures would create a misleading price difference.
Before deciding on value, compare new phones sold in the same market with the same RAM and storage, and check the seller, current offer and included accessories. These cited prices are India-specific snapshots, not global prices or a guaranteed current quote.
Which phone should you choose?
Choose the Galaxy A36 5G if
- You place a high value on Samsung’s clearly stated OS-upgrade and security-update commitment.
- You want a 6.7-inch FHD+ 120Hz display and a 50MP main, ultrawide and macro rear-camera setup.
- You are comparing India listings and can verify the exact A36 storage configuration and current seller price.
Choose the Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G if
- You prefer the larger 6.83-inch 1.5K display and 67W charging on the published specifications.
- You are considering it for its higher stated battery capacity, after checking whether your regional model is listed at 8,340mAh or 9,000mAh.
- You want the published Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 processor specification and are comfortable verifying software-support details separately.
Buying an imported model? Verify the exact SKU and network bands
Do not assume that a phone with the same retail name has identical connectivity or package contents in every country. Xiaomi warns that connectivity and network bands may vary by region and local operator support. Check the model number and supported bands against your carrier before importing; also confirm charger compatibility and local warranty terms with the seller.
