The TECNO POVA 8 Pro 5G lists a faster-refresh display, larger battery and higher charging wattage; Samsung’s Galaxy A17 5G comes with a specific long-term software-support commitment from Samsung. There is no verified, like-for-like current price comparison here, so the better choice depends on your priorities and the actual India price for the exact configuration you are considering.

How the displays and processors compare
Display size and refresh rate
The POVA 8 Pro’s listed display is slightly larger and specifies a 144Hz refresh rate. Samsung’s A17 listing identifies a 6.7-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED panel but does not state a refresh rate in the cited launch material. A higher refresh rate can make supported motion look smoother, but refresh rate and diagonal size alone do not establish which screen has better brightness, color accuracy or overall picture quality. Samsung’s India launch announcement and TECNO’s POVA 8 Pro specifications describe the respective panels.

Samsung names the Exynos 1330 and TECNO the Dimensity 7400 Ultimate. Their listed manufacturing process figures are 5nm and 4nm, respectively, but those specifications do not by themselves predict everyday speed, gaming performance or heat. No directly comparable benchmark evidence is available here, so a performance winner cannot be established from the chip names or process nodes alone.

Cameras: listed hardware, not proven photo quality
The A17 has three listed rear cameras: a 50MP main camera, 5MP ultrawide and 2MP macro. TECNO lists a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) and an 8MP ultrawide camera. The POVA’s OIS and higher ultrawide resolution are hardware distinctions, not proof that it takes better photos. No comparative camera test establishes results across daylight, low light, video or stabilization.
Battery and charging: POVA leads on paper
TECNO lists a 6500mAh battery and 45W charging; Samsung lists 5000mAh and 25W. Those capacities and rated charging powers favor the POVA on paper. They do not establish how long either phone lasts in real use or how quickly it charges under matched conditions: no independent, like-for-like endurance or charging test was located.

Software support and durability
Samsung states a support duration
In its India announcement dated 3 September 2025, Samsung stated that the Galaxy A17 5G would receive six generations of Android upgrades and six years of security updates. That is Samsung’s published policy for the phone. TECNO’s official specifications identify HiOS 16 based on Android 16, but the material available here does not establish a matching duration commitment. That gap is not evidence that TECNO has no support policy; check the manufacturer’s current regional terms if update longevity matters to you. Samsung Newsroom India and TECNO’s specifications page.

Samsung lists IP54 protection and Gorilla Glass Victus on the A17’s front. TECNO advertises IP69K/69/68/66 dust and water resistance for the POVA 8 Pro. These are manufacturer-stated specifications; they do not guarantee permanent protection or establish how warranty coverage applies after liquid or dust exposure. Confirm the exact regional model and warranty terms before relying on a rating.

India prices and the price difference
Samsung’s launch prices are historical
Samsung India announced the A17 5G on 3 September 2025 at INR 18,999 for 6GB/128GB, INR 20,499 for 8GB/128GB and INR 23,499 for 8GB/256GB. These are India launch prices, not guaranteed current offers. Samsung’s live India store page has displayed different figures, including ₹26,999 for 6GB/128GB and ₹29,999 for 8GB/128GB; store prices and offers can change, so check the current listing for the configuration you want. Surfaced listings are not a fair price comparison
A 91mobiles comparison listing showed ₹21,499 for the A17 5G on Amazon and ₹49,999 for the POVA 8 Pro 5G on Flipkart when crawled approximately three weeks before the 2026 research timestamp. Those are listings from different retailers and may refer to different offers or configurations; they do not confirm current stock or a like-for-like price gap. 91mobiles’ comparison listing.

For a useful price comparison, match country, RAM and storage, seller, warranty and date. Without a current, same-region, same-configuration price for both phones, it would be misleading to calculate a definitive difference from the figures above.

Which phone fits your priorities?
- Consider the POVA 8 Pro 5G if its listed 144Hz display, 6500mAh battery, 45W charging or OIS main camera matter most, and its current price and regional availability work for you.
- Consider the Galaxy A17 5G if Samsung’s stated six Android upgrade generations and six years of security updates are a priority, or if its camera configuration and verified local price better suit your needs.
- Wait for comparable evidence if you are choosing mainly on speed, photo quality or battery life. The listed specifications do not settle those real-world comparisons.
