fvpn is a community-maintained Linux command-line client intended to operate FastestVPN. It is separate from FastestVPN’s own applications and documentation. The project advertises shortcuts and protections such as DNS blocking and a persistent LOCKDOWN kill switch, but those are maintainer claims—not independently verified security results. If you prefer a provider-documented route, FastestVPN publishes a manual OpenVPN command-line guide for Ubuntu.
What fvpn does—and what it does not establish
The fvpn GitHub repository describes the project as an ultra-lightweight CLI for FastestVPN on Linux. Its README lists one-touch connection, UDP/TCP selection, an update-check interval, and security-related behavior. The repository is the project’s own description; it does not make fvpn an official FastestVPN application.

The README says fvpn blocks DNS traffic throughout the connection lifecycle, preserves LOCKDOWN kill-switch state when the application exits, and cleans up leftover rules or processes after an abnormal termination. Those statements describe what the project claims to do. The available sources do not provide an independent audit, reproducible leak-test results, or benchmark data establishing those behaviors.

Check the repository’s current instructions for installation and compatibility with your distribution. The repository page reviewed here does not establish a current release artifact or package-manager installation route, so do not assume a particular package or installation command is available.
There is one configuration detail worth noting: the README says files in data/ are loaded into memory at startup and written back when fvpn exits. Close fvpn before editing setting.ini; otherwise, the running application may overwrite your edits when it closes.

How the documented Ubuntu OpenVPN route works
FastestVPN’s Ubuntu command-line guide documents a manual OpenVPN workflow. It is the provider’s procedure for Ubuntu, not a walkthrough of fvpn’s implementation and not confirmation that fvpn works on every Linux distribution.
- Install OpenVPN on Ubuntu using the provider guide’s instructions.
- Download FastestVPN’s OpenVPN configuration archive and extract it into the OpenVPN directory as directed by the guide.
- Choose a server profile. The guide shows a UDP profile as its example and describes choosing TCP or UDP.
- Start OpenVPN with the selected profile, following the guide’s command, then enter your FastestVPN username and password when prompted.
- To disconnect, press
Ctrl+Cin the OpenVPN session, or stop the OpenVPN process from another session using the method in the guide.
FastestVPN maintains a Linux tutorial index with guides for Ubuntu, Mint, Debian, Kali, CentOS, Fedora, Red Hat, Arch, Raspberry Pi, and Alpine, along with topics such as OpenVPN auto-start, kill switches, and DNS leak fixes. This documents provider support material; it does not verify fvpn compatibility with each listed distribution.

Choosing fvpn or the manual provider workflow
| Consideration | fvpn project CLI | FastestVPN manual OpenVPN route |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A community Linux CLI project for operating FastestVPN, as described by its repository. | A manual OpenVPN procedure documented by FastestVPN for Ubuntu. |
| Convenience | The README lists one-touch connection and transport selection. | Requires selecting a profile and starting OpenVPN with it. |
| Dependencies or setup | The README lists OpenVPN, iptables, iproute2, and sudo privileges. | The provider guide describes installing OpenVPN and obtaining its server profiles. |
| Security evidence | DNS protection, LOCKDOWN persistence, and cleanup are project claims; independent verification is not established by the cited material. | The guide documents connection and disconnection steps; it does not itself establish comparative security or performance. |
| Platform scope | Linux project; compatibility with each distribution is not established here. | Ubuntu-specific command-line guide, with other distribution guides listed separately by the provider. |
These routes have different levels of convenience and different documentation origins. The cited sources do not establish that one is safer or faster, so choose based on whether you want a community tool’s advertised conveniences or a manual procedure documented by the provider, and verify the applicable instructions for your system.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Choosing TCP or UDP
FastestVPN’s Ubuntu guide allows TCP or UDP profiles and uses UDP in its example. It does not report a measured speed comparison. If one transport is unreliable on your network, trying the other profile may be useful, but performance depends on the network and is not guaranteed by the guide.
