It could, but the signing is a calculated trade rather than a guaranteed upgrade. FUT gains an experienced tier-one AWPer who can also help with mid-round calls; the risk is losing rifle output and asking a new five-man lineup to gel quickly. As of October 2, 2026, there are no post-signing matches to show whether the balance works.
What changed in FUT’s lineup?
FUT announced on October 1, 2026, that Spanish AWPer Álvaro “SunPayus” García had joined from G2. He replaces Nikita “cmtry” Samolotov. HLTV lists FUT’s active lineup as dem0n, Krabeni, dziugss, xfl0ud and SunPayus, with coolio as coach; cmtry and lauNX are benched. FUT’s announcement, reproduced by Insider Gaming, called SunPayus its “new AWPer.”

SunPayus had been inactive since G2 benched him in June 2026 and later brought in r1nkle. His G2 spell began with the BLAST Open London 2025 title, but HLTV reported that the team did not follow it with consistent playoff success. That record makes him an experienced addition, not a guarantee that FUT’s results will rise.

The central case for the move is role fit. The transfer report describes SunPayus as a tier-one AWPer who can also serve as a secondary caller. If that translates in matches, FUT could get more from its main AWP role while easing some mid-round decision-making pressure on its existing leaders. It may also give the team more options when a round becomes unsettled.

That support could matter on a young roster: HLTV reported FUT’s average age as 20.3 years, while SunPayus is 27. His major-event experience may provide a steadier reference in late rounds, but age and résumé alone do not establish that he will improve communication or decision-making.
What is FUT giving up?
HLTV characterized SunPayus as a likely upgrade at AWP, but warned that the change comes with significantly weaker rifling production relative to the outgoing setup. The practical question is whether better AWP impact and added calling compensate for the damage or pressure FUT loses when the team is not playing around the sniper.

cmtry had a meaningful contribution to replace: he helped FUT win PGL Bucharest in April 2026 and posted a 1.24 rating at that tournament, according to HLTV. The same source cited a 1.00 average LAN rating for him across 2026. Those figures point in different directions: a strong event-winning peak, alongside a broader LAN level that may have prompted FUT to look for greater consistency.
What should FUT’s first matches reveal?
FUT had roughly three weeks to prepare before PGL Masters Bucharest began on October 24, 2026. That is a short runway for integrating a new AWPer and caller. The tournament’s final placement will matter, but the early signs of whether the move is working are more specific:

| Area to assess | Evidence to watch |
|---|---|
| AWP impact | Whether SunPayus creates opening opportunities and converts high-pressure or clutch situations. |
| Mid-round calling | Whether his secondary calling helps FUT turn information and disrupted rounds into successful finishes. |
| Rifle balance | Whether the team’s rifle damage and round contribution hold up after cmtry’s departure. |
| Integration | Whether utility coordination, late-round communication, map choices and protocols settle quickly. |
These measures separate a role-fit improvement from a short-term result. A strong AWP showing will not by itself settle the question if the rifle core loses too much impact; likewise, early losses would be less conclusive if the team is still establishing shared protocols.

FUT has prioritized AWP quality, experience and an additional source of mid-round input for a young roster. Whether those gains outweigh the rifling cost depends on the team’s role balance and how quickly the new lineup becomes coordinated. PGL Masters Bucharest is the first meaningful competitive test; the outcome remains unresolved.
