An agent-assisted bug fix is only useful if it can reproduce the reported failure and show what happened after the change. With Expo’s EAS Simulator, the workflow runs on a hosted iOS or Android simulator: capture a precise bug case, have the agent investigate and make a focused fix, run the changed app remotely, then include evidence of that run with a reviewable pull request.
Expo presents EAS Simulator as an early-access service. Its service page describes agents installing a build, driving the app and verifying their work, with a session recording attached to a pull request. That recording documents a particular run; it does not prove every path works or mean the service automatically creates a pull request.

What EAS Simulator adds to an agent-led bug fix
EAS Simulator is Expo’s hosted environment for running an app in an iOS or Android simulator. It is useful when an agent needs to click through an app in the cloud or when the developer’s host machine does not have an appropriate local simulator available. Expo’s EAS Simulator page describes the agent flow as installing a build, exercising the app and verifying its work. Expo’s agent skills guidance also identifies cloud and agent-driven simulator use cases.

The remote session is one part of a toolchain, not a synonym for every EAS build or local simulator. An EAS Build simulator artifact, an EAS-hosted remote session, and a simulator running on a developer’s own machine are distinct things. The service is marked early access, and the remote-session commands are marked experimental in the EAS CLI reference; availability and syntax can change.

Turn the report into a reproducible test case
Before changing code, preserve the reporter’s path through the app as closely as possible. A useful bug case tells the agent what to do, what should happen, what actually happened, and the conditions that may affect the result. Expo’s advertised service flow begins with a crash report or bug entering an agent queue; the specific triage format below is practical guidance, not a required Expo template.
- Steps: the smallest sequence of taps, entries or navigation actions that triggers the issue.
- Expected result: what the user should see or be able to do at the end.
- Actual result: the observed failure, including any error text or crash details.
- Conditions: platform, app/build version, relevant device profile, and account or data state.
Ask the agent to replay these steps before editing. If it cannot reproduce the issue, record that outcome rather than treating an unobserved fix as verified. A mismatch in test account, app state or build can make an otherwise accurate report difficult to reproduce.

Make a focused fix that preserves the reproduction
Once the failure is reproducible, have the agent trace the relevant code path and make a change directed at that failure. Keeping the report’s original steps unchanged matters: they become the post-fix check, so the before-and-after runs are comparable. The scope of the patch and the review decision remain matters for the development team; a simulator session is not a substitute for inspecting the code.

Build and start the app for the right environment
For the documented iOS simulator build route, Expo’s simulator build tutorial configures an ios-simulator profile with ios.simulator: true, builds the app, installs it and starts the development server. The separate iOS simulator build reference documents eas build:run -p ios and the --latest option for installing the latest iOS simulator build.

Those build instructions concern EAS Build simulator artifacts. They do not, by themselves, start an EAS-hosted remote session. Remote sessions have their own setup documented in the EAS CLI reference. Because Expo currently marks these session commands experimental, check the current CLI help and the project’s supported setup rather than copying an old command blindly.
The CLI reference describes session types including agent-device, appium, argent and web-preview-only. It says agent-device, appium and argent sessions include an automation interface; web-preview-only does not. Choose a supported session type for the automation you need, and confirm the platform, device and build selection against current CLI documentation.

Replay the bug and capture what the run establishes
After the change, use the changed app build and repeat the same steps on the relevant platform. The useful verification record is specific: name the platform and build, describe the actions taken, state what appeared, and say whether the reported failure recurred. If the agent cannot complete a step, include that limitation rather than presenting the run as a pass.
Expo’s EAS Simulator page says a session recording can land on the pull request as proof of the run. Treat it as evidence of what was observed in that session, under its particular conditions—not proof of untested flows, all devices, or universal correctness.

Make the pull request reviewable
A reviewer should be able to connect the symptom, code change and verification without reconstructing the whole investigation. A concise pull request description can include:
- The reported bug and its impact.
- The cause found and the code change made.
- The exact reproduction steps and expected result.
- The platform/build used for the post-change run and its observed result.
- A link or embedded recording of the simulator session, if available.
Expo depicts the recording landing on the pull request, but that does not establish that every configuration automatically opens a PR, runs every test or guarantees a correct fix. The team still needs to review the patch and decide whether additional checks are appropriate.
When remote and local behavior differ
A remote build or session can take longer than a local iteration because the remote environment must be set up, the project downloaded and dependencies installed. If the cloud result differs from local behavior, Expo’s build troubleshooting guide recommends checking environment variables, relevant tool versions and whether the source files are present in a clean clone.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Confirm the remote build uses the environment variables and tool versions expected by the project.
- Check that the files involved in the fix are included in the project sent to the remote builder.
- Verify that the tested build is the changed build, rather than an earlier simulator artifact.
- Keep local simulation, EAS Build and an EAS-hosted remote session distinct when describing what was tested.
Access and plan pricing are not session pricing
Expo labels EAS Simulator early access, and its CLI reference labels remote simulator commands experimental. The EAS pricing page lists plan pricing and build inclusions, but it does not state a per-session EAS Simulator price. At the time of the cited pricing page, the Free plan included 15 Android and 15 iOS builds per month; these are build quotas, not simulator-session counts. The page listed Starter at $19 per month and Production at $199 per month, each plus additional usage costs. See Expo’s current EAS pricing for figures and terms that may have changed.
