FreeHostBox is a functioning free-hosting service that is worth considering for learning, testing WordPress, and low-risk hobby sites—but not as the sole home for an ecommerce store, business-critical application, or irreplaceable data. The current planning assumption is 5 GB of storage, despite older “unlimited” descriptions. “Unlimited” bandwidth and sites remain subject to shared-server resource rules, while the terms place backups, migration, and much of the operational risk on you.
The provider advertises PHP, MySQL, one-click WordPress, cPanel-related tools, SSL options, free subdomains, and no forced advertising. Those are service claims, not proof of uptime, speed, security, or long-term availability. Independent performance evidence is too sparse for a meaningful reliability score.
What is FreeHostBox?
FreeHostBox markets permanent free web hosting from freehostbox.net. Its homepage presents the service as suitable for personal and commercial use and references infrastructure or software associated with cPanel, Cloudflare, Softaculous, GoGetSSL, ZeroSSL, and iFastNet. Promotional labels such as “No. 1” or “most trusted” are not accompanied by a visible methodology, so they should be treated as marketing rather than independent rankings.
There is evidence of an operating service: a registration flow, dated technical notices on the official blog, a help center, and a current third-party directory listing. That establishes an online hosting operation, not guaranteed durability, security certification, financial stability, or business-grade support.

FreeHostBox free-plan features
| Feature | What the available evidence says | What to assume |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Free or ¥0 on the homepage and HostAdvice listing | No subscription payment is advertised; terms still allow service changes or discontinuation. |
| Storage | The provider announced a 5 GB limit on February 8, 2023; HostAdvice also lists 5 GB | Plan around 5 GB, not older unlimited-storage claims. |
| Bandwidth | HostAdvice lists unlimited bandwidth | Shared-server resource and acceptable-use restrictions still apply. |
| Sites | HostAdvice lists unlimited sites | Account, inode, CPU, memory, and policy limits can still constrain practical use. |
| PHP and MySQL | Advertised on the official homepage | Exact PHP versions, database quotas, and limits are not established here. |
| WordPress | One-click installation is advertised and reported by HostAdvice | Installation support does not guarantee fast or managed WordPress hosting. |
| Control panel | cPanel is referenced by the provider and listed by HostAdvice | Confirm the exact features enabled on your account. |
| SSL | The homepage references GoGetSSL and ZeroSSL | Certificate issuance and renewal steps should be checked after signup. |
| Subdomains | Free subdomains are advertised | A free subdomain may provide less DNS control than a domain you own. |
| Advertising | The homepage currently says hosted sites are ad-free | The terms contain older advertising language, so verify current account behavior. |
| Signup verification | No credit card or SMS verification is advertised | This is a current signup claim, not a guarantee for every country or future signup flow. |
The important correction: storage is 5 GB, not unlimited
Older reviews and promotional text may still describe unlimited disk space. However, FreeHostBox’s February 8, 2023 blog announcement says the formal free-plan limit changed to 5 GB, and the current HostAdvice plan table also lists 5 GB. Build your site, media library, and backup strategy around that limit.
“Unlimited” bandwidth does not mean unlimited server capacity
Monthly transfer is only one constraint on shared hosting. The terms prohibit excessive resource use and allow suspension when activity affects other accounts or server performance. CPU, memory, database activity, concurrent processes, and inode usage may matter even when bandwidth is described as unlimited.
- Large download repositories, archives, and file-sharing sites are prohibited or unsuitable.
- Proxy scripts, application-server behavior, bulk-mail systems, and resource-intensive scripts are restricted.
- Traffic spikes can trigger controls despite an “unlimited” transfer label.
Performance and uptime: evidence is too thin for a score
HostAdvice says there is not enough data for a proper expert review. Its listing displays one user review dated October 9, 2022. That user, who used the service for PHP study for about three months, reported occasional slow loading and said Cloudflare improved perceived speed. This is useful anecdotal failure-mode evidence, not a representative benchmark or uptime measurement.
Rank #2
There is no established uptime percentage, guaranteed page speed, confirmed datacenter location, or independent WordPress benchmark in the available evidence. The provider’s blog discusses Cloudflare rate limiting and DDoS-related Error 1015 at this notice and this notice; those posts show that traffic-abuse controls matter, not that a particular security or availability level is guaranteed.

Backups and data loss are your responsibility
FreeHostBox’s terms do not promise free backups or ordinary restoration from archives. They state that the customer is responsible for backups and that the provider may charge US$9.99 to create a backup on request, subject to its policy. Termination can include deletion of files, databases, email, and associated data.
- Export website files regularly through FTP or the control panel.
- Export MySQL databases separately rather than assuming a file copy is sufficient.
- Keep at least one copy outside FreeHostBox.
- Test a restoration before treating the site as protected.
- Maintain a migration plan with your domain and application credentials.
Suspension, termination, and policy-change risk
The terms give FreeHostBox broad discretion to suspend without prior notice for excessive resource use or performance impact, terminate inactive or rule-breaking accounts, modify or discontinue the service, and delete content after termination. They also limit a person to up to three free hosting accounts; additional accounts may be treated as abuse. The service is provided as-is without an uptime or error-free guarantee.
Rank #3
These powers are common in free shared hosting, but they make external backups and portability essential. The terms allow termination for inactivity without stating a clearly verified current number of days, so do not rely on an assumed grace period.
Advertising documentation is inconsistent
The current homepage markets hosted sites as ad-free, while the terms retain legacy provisions saying advertising may be included and prohibiting ad blockers. Treat this as a documentation conflict. Check the current signup, control-panel notices, and account behavior rather than relying on either statement alone.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWordPress, custom domains, and Cloudflare
PHP, MySQL, and one-click WordPress make FreeHostBox plausible for a learning site, demo, or low-traffic personal blog. WordPress can nevertheless consume substantially more CPU, memory, database activity, and storage than a simple static site. Plugin-heavy installations, scheduled tasks, or busy dashboards may encounter shared-resource restrictions.
A reader-reported limitation is that FreeHostBox free subdomains could not have their nameservers changed, preventing the usual Cloudflare setup. Do not assume Cloudflare can sit in front of every free subdomain. A custom domain that you own gives better DNS control and simplifies migration, although Cloudflare will not solve every hosting-speed or availability problem.
Email and large-file limitations
The terms say outgoing mail is monitored and filtered and must be sent to or from a FreeHostBox-hosted domain. That makes the service a poor foundation for dependable transactional email or bulk mailing. Accounts intended mainly for archives, downloads, file sharing, or large volumes of non-web content are also a poor fit.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Support: channels exist, guarantees do not
The help center and official blog show that support and technical-notice channels exist. The available evidence does not establish 24/7 coverage, phone support, guaranteed response times, a service-level agreement, or consistent issue-resolution quality.

Who should use FreeHostBox?
Good fits
- Students learning HTML, PHP, or MySQL.
- Developers testing a basic WordPress installation.
- Hobbyists publishing a small personal site.
- Temporary or disposable projects.
- Owners able to maintain independent backups and tolerate migration.
Use caution
- A small public website can work if downtime and migration are acceptable and backups are maintained elsewhere.
- Use a reader-owned custom domain when DNS control and future portability matter.
Poor fits
- Ecommerce and revenue-critical websites.
- Businesses that require guaranteed uptime, managed backups, or predictable support.
- Client sites hosted without a stronger service agreement.
- Applications needing background workers, queues, cron-heavy processing, APIs, or large databases.
- Sites storing legally, financially, or operationally important data.
When paid hosting is the better choice
Choose conventional shared hosting when you need a custom domain, dependable email, clearer account management, and more predictable support. Choose managed WordPress hosting when automatic updates, backups, and WordPress-specific assistance matter. Choose a VPS when you need resource isolation and administrative control and can manage the server. For a static HTML, CSS, and JavaScript site, a static-hosting platform may avoid the need for PHP and MySQL altogether. Verify current plans and prices independently before selecting a provider.
How to evaluate FreeHostBox before committing
- Confirm the storage allowance and active PHP, database, SSL, and panel features inside your account.
- Read the current terms for resource, email, content, inactivity, and termination rules.
- Deploy a small test site before moving important content.
- Measure your own page speed and monitor availability; do not infer performance from promotional claims.
- Set up automated external file and database exports.
- Test a migration to another host while the site is still disposable.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: FreeHostBox is a legitimate-looking, genuinely free hosting option for education, experiments, and low-risk personal sites. Treat 5 GB as the real storage ceiling, interpret unlimited claims through the terms, expect no guaranteed backup or uptime protection, and keep independent copies of everything. Those conditions make it useful for testing—but a weak choice as the only host for a serious business or irreplaceable website.
