For most students, the best free web clipper is the one that saves material into the notes system they already use: try OneNote for flexible text, screenshot and PDF capture; Notion for saving pages into a workspace or database; and Evernote for its article, simplified-article and screenshot modes. The clipper extensions or workflows are described as free, but that does not establish that account storage or every destination feature is unlimited and free in India. Check current plan terms before building a large study archive.
What a web clipper does—and what “free” means
A web clipper is usually a browser extension or phone share workflow that saves a webpage, selected material or a screenshot into a separate notes service. It can make reading and organizing online study material easier, but it is not a guarantee that a page will be copied perfectly. Nor does a free extension prove that the connected account has unlimited free storage or includes every feature.

Choose the capture format based on how you will use the material. Editable text is easier to search and annotate; a screenshot preserves the page’s appearance but is less flexible. Keep the original page URL with your notes so you can revisit it, check its author and date, and cite it according to your institution’s rules. Microsoft OneNote Web Clipper: best when you need several capture formats
Microsoft says the extension is free and works with most modern web browsers. Its documented capture choices cover both editable study notes and visual records, which makes it a flexible starting point if you already organize class material in OneNote.
Capture choices
- Article: captures editable text and images, useful when you want to search, annotate or reuse the content in notes.
- Full Page or Region: saves a screenshot of the whole page or a selected area. This can be a better fit for diagrams or layout-dependent material.
- PDF Document: lets you choose a page range to clip, rather than necessarily taking the entire document.
You can select a notebook section and add an optional note before saving. Microsoft’s Chrome Web Store listing says clips are available from devices even while offline; treat that as listing information, not a guarantee for every device, account or sync state. The listing showed version 3.11.3 updated September 23, 2026, but version metadata alone does not establish how a particular installation will behave. Notion Web Clipper: best for a workspace or research database
Notion’s desktop extension supports Chrome and Safari. After signing in, choose the workspace page or database where the clip belongs and save it. When saving to a database, Notion automatically adds a URL property, giving you a route back to the original webpage. Tags and other database properties can be added after the clip in the database rather than in the clipping flow.

For a phone, use the native share sheet on iOS or Android. Notion lists iOS 13.0+ and Android 7.0+ as requirements for that workflow. Its help page warns that formatting varies and some page content can be missing, so check important clips rather than assuming a perfect copy. Evernote Web Clipper: best if you want capture modes plus notebook tags
Evernote’s Quick Start guide lists Chrome, Safari and Firefox. Its three named modes are Article, Simplified Article and Screenshot. The guide also describes clipping full-page articles, images, selected text and webpages. Before saving, choose a notebook and optionally add a tag or comment—useful if you keep research grouped by course, topic or assignment.
Evernote says the extension can be installed at no cost, but this should not be read as a promise of unlimited free account storage. Its offline guidance is contradictory: one passage says saved pages may be available offline if downloaded to the device, while another says the clipper needs an internet connection to save and does not allow offline use. How to choose for your study workflow
- Choose OneNote if you want a choice between editable article content, screenshots and selected PDF pages, especially if your notes already live in OneNote.
- Choose Notion if you want clips to land in a workspace page or research database and value an automatically saved source URL for database entries.
- Choose Evernote if its notebook workflow suits you and you want to choose among article, simplified article and screenshot capture.
- Use a screenshot mode when preserving a diagram, visual arrangement or exact appearance matters more than editing the copied text.
- Test before committing if your material includes tables, equations, diagrams or content behind a login. A clipper may omit content or change formatting; compare the saved result with the original.
For phone use, Notion’s share-sheet workflow is documented for iOS and Android, while the OneNote and Evernote materials above focus on browser extensions. - The clip looks incomplete or differently formatted: compare it against the original. Notion expressly notes that formatting varies and content can be missing; complex pages may not clip as expected in any service. Try a screenshot mode for visual material.
