Free Hytale Server Hosting: What Your Options Are in 2026

Free Hytale hosting comes as short trials, restricted free tiers, or self-hosting. Compare limits, then follow the Java 25, authentication, and UDP 5520 setup steps.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You can run a Hytale server for free in three practical ways: use a commercial host’s short trial, use a provider’s restricted free tier, or run the official dedicated server on hardware you control. Trials and free tiers trade away time, slots, ads, or configuration access. Self-hosting avoids a hosting bill, but you supply the computer, electricity, Java 25 installation, network configuration, and account authentication.

Free Hytale server hosting: the three real routes

“Free” does not describe one uniform product. It usually means one of these models:

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • A time-limited commercial trial: You receive a managed server for a fixed period, often with a control panel and no software-maintenance work. When the trial ends, the server may stop or require a paid plan.
  • A restricted permanent free tier: A provider keeps a small server available, usually with ads, limited hours, modest memory, or a capped player count. Terms can change without much notice.
  • Self-hosting: You run Hytale’s dedicated server software on your own desktop, spare PC, home server, or rented machine that you already pay for. The software itself costs nothing, but electricity, hardware, internet service, and your time are still real costs.

Before choosing, decide whether you need a server that stays online around the clock, whether strangers will join, and whether you need access to every file and configuration setting. Those answers matter more than a headline saying “free.”

Free options at a glance

Route Cost model Time or availability limit Ads and slots Memory information File and network control
MineStrator trial Vendor-stated free trial 12 hours Not stated Not stated for the trial; its MyBox free Hytale plan is advertised with 4 GB DDR4 RAM Managed panel; ability to open UDP 5520 depends on the host
Gaming4Free free tier Free tier 3 hours initially; vendor says watching ads can extend use up to 24 hours Ads required for extensions; 20 player slots advertised 3 GB RAM advertised Managed service; port and file access are provider-dependent
AxentHost free offer Vendor-stated free hosting Limit not stated No credit card claimed; other ad or uptime terms not stated Up to 16 GB RAM claimed Confirm panel permissions and UDP 5520 support before moving a world
Self-hosted dedicated server No hosting fee; you provide hardware, power, and internet As long as your machine and connection remain available None imposed by a host Secondary guides cite 4 GB as a floor, with 6 GB or more commonly recommended Full files and configuration access; you control UDP 5520 and the firewall

The provider figures above are vendor-stated offers, not independent test results. Treat them as descriptions of plans advertised on October 14, 2026. Check the current terms immediately before creating a world, because free-tier limits, retention policies, and supported server versions can change.

Hytale server free hosting no credit card: what providers actually limit

If you want a hosted server without entering payment details, read the fine print for four specific constraints: how long the instance runs, whether it sleeps when empty, how many players it accepts, and what happens to your files when the allowance ends.

MineStrator: a short trial and a small advertised plan

MineStrator advertises a free 12-hour trial. Its separate MyBox free Hytale plan is described as providing 4 GB of DDR4 memory and NVMe SSD storage. The trial duration and the MyBox specifications are different claims, so do not assume the trial includes the MyBox allocation or that either offer is permanent. Confirm whether the instance is deleted, suspended, or retained after the free period, and export your world before the deadline.

Gaming4Free: 3 GB, 20 slots, and ad-based extensions

Gaming4Free advertises 3 GB of RAM and 20 player slots. The stated free allowance is three hours, with extensions available by watching advertisements up to a claimed maximum of 24 hours. This model can work for a one-evening test, but it is a poor fit for a community that expects a stable address every day. Ask whether the 24-hour figure is per day, per session, or subject to an availability queue; the headline does not establish those details.

AxentHost: a high memory claim that still needs verification

AxentHost claims up to 16 GB of RAM free and says no card is required. The available description does not establish the uptime schedule, player cap, storage type, backup policy, or whether customers can bind the standard UDP port. A large memory number is not a guarantee of good performance if the node is oversubscribed or the service pauses idle servers. Treat this as a lead to check, not a performance guarantee.

Questions to answer before uploading a world

  • Is the allowance measured by calendar day, active hours, or one-time trial?
  • Does the server stop when no one is playing?
  • Are backups included, and can you download them before expiry?
  • Can you upload plugins, mods, configuration files, and an existing world?
  • Can the service receive inbound UDP traffic on port 5520, or does it require a proxy or a custom port?
  • What happens to the IP address after a restart?

A free host that cannot answer these questions is suitable only for disposable testing. Keep a local copy of the world and configuration regardless of the provider.

How to host a Hytale server for free on your own hardware

Self-hosting gives you the most control and avoids trial timers. It is still a small systems-administration project. The sequence below assumes a machine that can remain powered and an internet connection that permits inbound UDP traffic.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

1. Check the account and machine prerequisites

  • Game ownership: The Hytale account that links the server must own the game. Guests cannot join an unauthenticated server simply because they know its address.
  • Java: Install Java 25. Eclipse Temurin is a commonly recommended distribution, available for x64 and arm64 systems. A different Java major version can prevent the server from starting or produce hard-to-diagnose errors.
  • Memory: Secondary guides conflict. One figure describes 4 GB as an official floor, while other guides recommend 6 GB or 6–16 GB depending on player count and mods. Leave memory for the operating system; a machine with exactly 4 GB total will have little headroom.
  • Storage and CPU: One guide suggests four CPU cores, 8 GB RAM, a 20 GB SSD, and 10 Mbit/s upload for a practical setup. These are planning figures, not a universal Hytale specification.

2. Install Java 25 and verify it

Install a Java 25 x64 or arm64 build appropriate to the operating system. Then open a terminal or command prompt and run:

java -version

The output should identify Java 25. If it reports an older release, fix the system path or use the full path to the Java 25 executable before attempting to launch the server.

3. Place the dedicated-server files together

Obtain the official dedicated-server package from Hytale, then put HytaleServer.jar and Assets.zip in the server directory. Keep the directory writable so the process can create its world, logs, and configuration files. Do not unpack Assets.zip unless the current server instructions explicitly require it.

4. Start the server with the assets archive

From that directory, launch the jar while pointing it at the assets archive:

java -jar HytaleServer.jar --assets Assets.zip

Watch the console for startup errors. A missing file, an incorrect filename, or the wrong Java version will normally stop initialization before networking is ready. Keep the terminal open during the first run so you can see the authentication prompt and bind errors.

5. Authenticate the server owner

At the server console, use the device-login flow:

/auth login device

Follow the displayed instructions with the Hytale account that owns the game. This account links the running server. Authentication is not optional: without it, the process may be running locally while players are refused when they try to join.

6. Open the correct port and protocol

Hytale’s server traffic uses QUIC over UDP port 5520 by default. Create an inbound rule for UDP 5520 in the operating-system firewall, then create a UDP 5520 port-forward on the home router to the server’s private IP address. Opening TCP only will not solve a Hytale connection failure.

If another application already uses that port, start the server with a different bind setting using --bind, then forward the replacement UDP port instead. Tell players the public address and replacement port together. Reserve the server’s local IP in the router so the forwarding rule does not break after a reboot.

7. Test locally, then from outside your network

  1. Join from the same machine or local network to confirm that the process and world load.
  2. Check the firewall and router rule if local joining works but an outside player cannot connect.
  3. Have someone on a different internet connection test the public address. Testing only from inside the LAN can hide a failed port-forward or carrier-grade NAT.
  4. Record the world directory and configuration locations, then stop the server cleanly before copying a backup.

Hytale dedicated server requirements, separated from recommendations

The available secondary guides do not agree on one universal hardware number, and the official Hytale Server Manual was available only as a table of contents for this information. Use the following distinctions rather than presenting a recommendation as an official guarantee.

Requirement or recommendation What is established How to plan
Java runtime Java 25 is required; Eclipse Temurin is recommended by a secondary guide, for x64 or arm64 Install and verify Java 25 before troubleshooting anything else
RAM One source cites 4 GB as a floor; other guides cite 6 GB or 6–16 GB depending on players and mods Use at least 8 GB total system memory for a small private server when possible, leaving capacity for the operating system; this is a planning recommendation, not an official minimum
CPU A guide suggests four cores Prefer four modern cores or better if several players or mods will run simultaneously
Disk A guide suggests 20 GB of SSD space Reserve more than the world’s initial size for logs, updates, backups, and temporary files
Upload bandwidth A guide suggests 10 Mbit/s upload Measure sustained upstream capacity and leave margin for other household traffic
Networking QUIC over UDP 5520 by default Open the same UDP port in both the host firewall and router, or change it with --bind

Control, reliability, and cost trade-offs

Choose a hosted free tier when convenience matters most

A panel reduces operating-system work and usually gives you start, stop, console, and file-management buttons. It is useful for learning, a short event, or testing whether your friends enjoy the game. The trade-off is that the provider controls scheduling, backups, node load, supported ports, and retention.

Choose self-hosting when control and persistence matter

Self-hosting lets you edit every file, choose when updates happen, inspect logs directly, and keep the same world as long as your hardware remains available. You are also responsible for patching Java, protecting the machine, maintaining backups, handling outages, and explaining your public address to players. Residential upload limits, dynamic IP addresses, and carrier-grade NAT can be more restrictive than the server software itself.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use a trial as a test, not as your backup strategy

A 12-hour or three-hour allowance is enough to test authentication, player connections, and basic performance. It is not evidence of long-term uptime. Download the world before a trial ends and do not wait until the final minutes to discover that exports or backups are restricted.

Troubleshooting free Hytale servers

The server starts but nobody outside can join

Confirm that the rule is UDP, not TCP, and that both the local firewall and router forward port 5520 to the correct private IP. If local players can join but outside players cannot, investigate the router, public address, or carrier-grade NAT. A different --bind port requires matching changes in both places.

Java errors appear immediately

Run java -version in the same account and shell used to start the server. If it is not Java 25, correct the path or invoke the Java 25 binary explicitly. Also confirm that the machine architecture matches the installed build.

Players are rejected during login

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The process runs out of memory

Stop other applications, increase available system RAM, reduce the expected player or mod load, or move to hardware with more headroom. Treat 4 GB as a constrained floor rather than a comfortable target when the operating system and several players share the machine.

A free hosted server disappears

Check whether the offer was a one-time trial, an hourly allowance, an idle-sleep service, or an ad-funded extension. Contact the provider promptly about retention, but rely on your own downloaded backup rather than an assumption that a suspended instance will remain available.

Which free option fits your situation?

  • One short session: A provider trial is the fastest route. Export the world before the timer expires.
  • Occasional small gatherings: A limited tier can work if you accept ads, a low slot count, and uncertain uptime.
  • A persistent private world: Self-host on an always-on machine with at least the recommended memory headroom and a backup routine.
  • A public community: Free tiers are risky unless their uptime, storage retention, port access, and support terms are explicit. Self-hosting requires stronger network security and monitoring; a paid service may eventually be the practical choice even though the initial software is free.

The deciding question is not simply whether the monthly price is zero. It is whether you can accept the host’s timer and restrictions, or whether you are prepared to operate Java, storage, authentication, and UDP networking yourself.
