There is no verified set of 60 free, ecommerce-ready templates established by the available listings. The number comes from a broader roundup of responsive website templates, which includes designs for different kinds of sites. A storefront’s appearance alone does not mean it includes a product catalog, cart, or checkout.
Choose by implementation type: a theme built for a commerce platform, a front-end storefront that needs a separate commerce system, or a general website template that may not support ecommerce at all. Below are verified examples and a practical way to check any candidate before building your store.

What “free ecommerce template” can mean
The label covers designs with very different capabilities. Before downloading or installing one, establish what it actually provides:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Commerce-platform theme: Installs in a platform such as Shopify and is designed to work with its store features. Check the theme listing and platform documentation for the commerce functions it supports.
- Front-end storefront template: Supplies page layouts and visual components, but may require a separate commerce platform, developer work, or checkout integration. A product-looking demo does not prove that cart, payment, or order handling is included.
- General website template: A responsive design for a broad range of sites. It may need substantial adaptation—or may not be suitable for a functioning online store.
For example, Colorlib’s 2026 collection of 60 free responsive website templates spans multiple site purposes. Its Shionhouse entry is a clothing-storefront front end, and Colorlib says checkout requires a commerce platform behind it. That does not make all 60 entries ecommerce templates. ThemeHunk’s separate 2026 ecommerce-focused collection is titled “12+ Free eCommerce Website Design Templates 2026.” Neither title alone verifies the current availability or capabilities of every item.

Shopify themes: platform-native options
Shopify’s official Theme Store displayed 24 free themes when accessed on October 7, 2026. The store is dynamic, so the current number and availability may change. Use the live free themes collection to confirm what is listed now, then inspect each theme’s current feature details and demo.
One specific listing is Horizon. Shopify lists it as free and documents version 4.2.0 dated September 18, 2026. Its listing describes product showcases and customization features; these are vendor-provided claims, not independent performance results. Review the live listing for current details rather than assuming another theme has the same functions.

Front-end and general templates: verify the commerce layer
Colorlib’s Shionhouse illustrates the distinction: it presents a clothing storefront, but its description says checkout needs a commerce platform behind it. Treat that kind of template as a design starting point, not a complete store. ThemeHunk’s ecommerce-focused roundup is a more relevant place to explore ecommerce designs, but verify each template’s current demo, download terms, platform requirements, and included functions before relying on it.
How to choose a template that fits your store
Compare candidates on the same practical criteria. A free download is only useful if it fits your platform and the way you sell.

| Check | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Platform and implementation | Confirm whether it installs as a Shopify or WordPress/WooCommerce theme, or is a standalone front-end template. Identify any required platform, hosting, developer work, or checkout service. |
| Commerce scope | Check whether product listings and product pages are connected to a real catalog, and whether cart, checkout, payment, and order handling are included or supplied elsewhere. |
| Catalog and merchandising | Test the layout with your actual product count, categories, variants, filters, and image proportions. Shopify’s Theme Store provides catalog-size and feature filters; listings and filter options can change. |
| Customization and support | Find out which settings are available without code, whether code changes are possible, who maintains the template, and where support comes from. |
| Mobile and accessibility | Inspect navigation, product details, forms, and checkout at phone widths. Check keyboard access, readable text, and clear focus states rather than treating a responsive label as proof of usability. |
| Maintenance and licensing | Look for a current version or update history, compatibility notes, license terms, and the scope of support. Confirm that the license permits use on your intended store. |
| Total operating cost | Account for the commerce platform, hosting, domain, apps, payment processing, and implementation. “Free theme” or “free template” does not establish that the complete store costs nothing. |
Test a candidate before committing
- Open the official listing and demo. Record the supported platform, current version, license, and any stated dependencies. Do not rely only on a roundup’s headline or screenshot.
- Build a representative catalog. Add real examples of your products, including the longest title, different variants, and the largest or most awkward images. Check collection and product pages for layout problems.
- Follow the purchase path. Confirm that add-to-cart, cart updates, checkout, payment, and order confirmation are supported by the theme and its commerce platform together. A visual demo may not complete a real transaction.
- Review it on a phone and with a keyboard. Test menus, filters, variant selection, buttons, forms, and text readability. Fix interaction or accessibility problems before launch.
- Check the ongoing arrangement. Verify update availability, support responsibility, licensing, and the costs of services the template itself does not provide.
Shopify theme licensing and cost boundaries
Shopify says its free themes are developed by Shopify; paid themes are made by third-party designers. Paid themes can be previewed, but must be purchased before they can be published. Shopify also says a theme bought from its Theme Store is licensed only to the store for which it was originally purchased. Read Shopify’s current theme guidance and theme license information before using a paid theme on another store or assuming a free theme covers other operating costs.
