What “free” means for a 24/7 stream
A free allowance is not unlimited service
A monthly cap such as 20 or 24 hours is a limited allowance, not an always-on channel. Check whether the cap applies per stream, account, or month, and what happens when it is reached: the stream might stop, require an upgrade, or incur charges. Do not treat a free trial or new-account credit as a permanent plan.
Cloud playout and self-hosting are different
With cloud playout, the service runs the prerecorded video while your computer is off. With self-hosting, the encoder or server doing the playout must stay powered, connected, and functioning. A VPS moves that machine to a provider’s infrastructure, but it does not automatically make the video processing or delivery free.

Confirm looping, not just “continuous” streaming
For rain content, ask whether the plan can loop your uploaded file or play a playlist, and whether that function is available on the free tier. A service may support continuous streaming in some context while still imposing a monthly-hour allowance. Livepush’s available plan information does not resolve that point, so confirm it with the provider.
What the listed free plans establish
OneStream Live: explicit session and playlist limits
OneStream Live’s Help Center article, last updated August 24, 2026, says its free plan is available indefinitely, but limits prerecorded live streams to 15 minutes and real-time streams to one hour. It also says free users cannot create or stream playlists. The page lists two simultaneous destinations and a maximum resolution of 720p; those features do not remove the runtime and playlist restrictions for an always-on loop. Check its current free-plan terms before signing up.

Upstream: a monthly allowance, not free 24/7
Upstream’s 24/7 playout page advertises 24 hours per month on the free plan. Separately, its free live-streaming page says an always-on channel requires a paid plan starting at $30 a month. Both are vendor statements and may change; verify the current terms and whether a particular allowance suits your schedule.
Livepush: clarify the apparent conflict
Livepush’s free-plan Help Center page lists 20 streaming hours per month and up to 10 platforms at once, and also mentions continuous streaming. The available information does not say whether continuous streaming is available only within the 20-hour allowance or is an exception. Ask Livepush to clarify before treating the plan as an option for a 24/7 rain channel.

AWS: credits and free services have boundaries
AWS describes up to $200 in credits over six months for new customers, access to selected services on a free plan, and more than 30 always-free services subject to monthly usage limits. These offers are not the same as a free video broadcast service with unlimited delivery. The AWS Free Tier page does not establish the total cost of a particular continuous-streaming setup; compute, storage, and outbound delivery must be evaluated for that setup.
Playout.video: verify the terms before counting it
Playout.video’s homepage advertises a cloud 24/7 channel and a free plan, but the available plan information does not establish its free runtime allowance, playlist restrictions, or other conditions. Treat it as an option to investigate, not as confirmed free 24/7 playout.

How to decide whether a free option is usable
- Set the runtime you need. If the channel must stay live around the clock, a short session limit or monthly-hour allowance will not meet that requirement.
- Confirm prerecorded looping. Ask whether the free plan supports playlists or repeating uploaded files, rather than only a live encoder input.
- Check where the stream runs. A cloud service can keep playing with your computer off; a self-hosted encoder needs your PC or server to remain operational.
- Read the usage and billing boundaries. Check hours, storage, compute, outbound delivery, credit expiry, and what happens at each limit.
- Check YouTube’s current rules and your content rights. Before broadcasting for long periods, review YouTube’s current livestream requirements and confirm you have rights to the rain recording, images, and any sound. The provider-plan information cited here does not establish those platform or licensing rules.
If you run the stream yourself
Self-hosting is the do-it-yourself alternative when you are willing to keep the equipment and connection running. The available information identifies a home PC with OBS, or your own hardware or a VPS, as possible approaches; it does not establish the settings for a particular computer, network, or video file.
