As of October 3, 2026, all four were in custody and awaiting sentencing; the prison terms cited by prosecutors were potential maximum exposures, not sentences already imposed.
What the jury convicted each defendant of
The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office reported that prosecutors identified Xiangwei Ma as the head of the enterprise. The jury’s reported convictions were:
| Defendant | Reported convictions |
|---|---|
| Xiangwei Ma | Pimping, mortgage fraud and nine money-laundering counts |
| Xiangdong Ma | Pimping and five money-laundering counts |
| Li Ma | Pimping and one money-laundering count |
| Ming Ma | Pimping and two money-laundering counts |
These are the counts the DA’s September 30, 2026 release attributed to the jury’s verdicts. It described the alleged activity as operating commercial sex businesses behind the appearance of legitimate massage establishments.
How the investigation began and what prosecutors alleged
The DA says the investigation began in 2020 after multiple law-enforcement agencies received anonymous whistleblower letters reporting suspected prostitution and human trafficking at massage establishments, including Miracle Massage in Ventura and A+ Massage in Port Hueneme. Prosecutors said family members had operated the businesses for more than a decade and recruited and exploited women who were foreign nationals from China for commercial sex.

Those descriptions of recruitment, exploitation and how the businesses operated are the DA’s account of its investigation and prosecution. The release does not provide a trial transcript or a fuller account of the evidence, so it does not support adding details about individual women’s circumstances or testimony beyond what the office reported.
What the $1.25 million figure covers
The DA says the defendants moved proceeds through financial institutions, life-insurance policies, casinos and real-estate transactions. Admissions by three defendants and a jury finding as to Xiangdong Ma established a forfeiture basis for the defendants’ interests in more than $1.25 million in seized currency, bank funds and life-insurance cash values. That figure describes assets identified for forfeiture; it is not an established total of the operation’s revenue.

The Crowne Oak Lane property
As an example of alleged ownership concealment, the release describes a residence on Crowne Oak Lane in Simi Valley. It says Xiangwei Ma made conflicting statements about her employment and income in connection with the property, sought a short sale and continued living there after the sale terms required her to leave. Jaime Calderon ultimately became the listed buyer.
Other case history involving the family
Jaime Calderon, Li Ma’s husband and a fifth defendant, pleaded guilty to money laundering on August 11, 2023, and was sentenced to Ventura County Jail, according to the DA’s office.

The DA also reported that Xiangwei Ma had previously pleaded guilty in Los Angeles County to attempted pandering and served an 18-month prison term. Prosecutors said other family members continued operating the businesses during that incarceration, and that she resumed directing them after her release while avoiding being listed as an owner or manager.
Custody and sentencing schedule reported on October 3, 2026
The DA said the four convicted defendants were remanded into custody after the verdicts. Its September 30 release listed the following sentencing dates and potential prison terms:
Rank #4
| Defendant | Sentencing date listed by the DA | Potential prison term listed by the DA |
|---|---|---|
| Xiangwei Ma | October 23, 2026 | 17 years |
| Xiangdong Ma | October 23, 2026 | 13 years |
| Li Ma | November 2, 2026 | Eight years and eight months |
| Ming Ma | November 4, 2026 | 11 years and four months |
As of October 3, the sentencing dates were still in the future. These figures were potential prison terms described in the DA release, not final sentences.

The DA’s office said that since 2023 it has worked with Ventura Police, the Ventura County Human Trafficking Task Force, local agencies and city governments through a Landlord Engagement Program. The office describes the program as educating property owners and managers, encouraging compliance with local ordinances and pursuing legal remedies when owners allow illegal activity to continue. The release did not report quantified results for the program.
