AlphaRank is presented by its creator as a web-based art competition: upload a PNG or JPG, and a vision model scores it on composition, colour, technique and presentation. Its results include written feedback and appear in daily, weekly and all-time leaderboards. Those details come from creator Mir Shah’s project description; the app’s current live operation has not been independently verified.
What AlphaRank does
AlphaRank is an online artwork-submission and scoring app, not a physical art product. Shah describes a curated feed featuring a hand-picked artwork, alongside leaderboards that list scored entries with category scores and written feedback.
The creator says the judge assesses four dimensions:
- Composition: how the visual elements are arranged.
- Colour: use of colour.
- Technique: execution of the work.
- Presentation: how the artwork is presented.
The project description does not establish an independent benchmark for the model’s artistic judgments, so scores are best understood as AlphaRank’s own rubric-based evaluations rather than objective measures of artistic merit.

How to submit artwork
According to the creator, a submission requires signing in with Google and completing a profile. The described flow is:
- Sign in with Google.
- Complete your profile.
- Upload a PNG or JPG.
- Add a title and choose a category.
- Submit the artwork for judging.
Shah says visitors can browse the public leaderboard and feed without an account, but signing in is required to submit. The creator describes a limit of one scored submission per account per 24 hours. This is an app-specific rule reported in the project description, not an independently verified or necessarily current limit.

How the judging rubric works
The creator describes the rubric as four Sanity judgingCriteria documents, one for each scoring category. Each document contains a weight, description, rules, good and bad examples, and adjustments for different kinds of work, including cutouts, posters and photographs.
At submission, the app reportedly fetches the criteria and builds the vision-model prompt from them. Shah says publishing a change to a criterion affects the next submission. This makes the rubric configurable through content rather than requiring a code change for each adjustment; it does not, by itself, establish how reliable or consistent the model’s assessments are.

Transparency and image handling
AlphaRank’s description says a genuine transparent background earns a 10-point bonus. It also says the app checks a PNG’s colour type for an alpha channel and that judging rules assess whether an apparent transparent background is actually a white matte baked into the image. The 10-point figure is a creator-reported app setting; the source’s visible date does not establish a publication year for that setting.
Shah reports that judging takes 15 to 60 seconds. That is the creator’s stated timing, not an independently measured performance guarantee. Actual processing time may differ.

What the creator says about the app’s architecture
Shah identifies the stack as Next.js 16, Sanity v6 and Vercel, with no separate database. The project description says artwork and feed posts are publicly readable, while judging criteria and submission counters are excluded from public reads and require a server-held token. It also describes submission states—pending, scoring, scored and rejected—with leaderboards showing scored entries.
The creator distinguishes this custom process from Sanity Workflows and says the project did not use the App SDK. These are descriptions of the implementation, not an independent technical audit.

Privacy disclosure and what it does—and does not—establish
Shah disclosed that an earlier version stored artist email addresses on artwork documents in a publicly readable Sanity dataset, exposing five email addresses. The creator says the fix removed email addresses from those documents, derived a peppered SHA-256 hash from the session email using AUTH_SECRET, migrated the old fields and reran a public query.
This is a first-person account of a past exposure and reported remediation. It is not an independent security audit and does not establish the app’s current security state. The project description’s visible date line shows October 3 but not a year, so the disclosure and fix should not be treated as confirmation of present-day conditions.
Is AlphaRank worth trying?
AlphaRank may interest artists who want to see how a configurable AI judge evaluates an image and to compare submissions on a public leaderboard. Its appeal depends on treating the score as feedback generated under AlphaRank’s rubric—not as a definitive ranking of artistic quality. The creator describes PNG/JPG uploads and Google sign-in for submissions; current availability, terms and live behavior are not independently established.
