Foscam VMS is desktop software for viewing and managing Foscam HD cameras and NVR kits from one interface. Foscam’s V1.3 manual documents live viewing for up to 36 cameras, playback, PTZ controls, recording, alerts, and user accounts. Those are vendor-documented capabilities—not a guarantee that every feature works with every camera, firmware version, or later VMS release.
What Foscam VMS does
Foscam presents VMS as central-management software for Windows and Mac. Its download page describes the software as intended for Foscam HD cameras and NVR kits. The V1.3 manual says it supports up to 36 cameras at a time and lists multiple live-view layouts, automatic surveillance-window patrol, stream-type adaptation, an embedded web configuration page, playback, snapshots, and log management.
The manual also documents PTZ controls and presets, multiple recording save paths, loop recording, motion alerts by email or FTP image upload, and multi-level password-protected user management. These are features described in Foscam’s manual; actual availability can depend on the device and installed release. The sources do not provide independent performance benchmarks or a complete model-and-firmware compatibility matrix.
Download the correct package
Get the installer from Foscam’s official App & Software downloads page. At the time the page was checked for this guide, it listed VMS 3.13.34 for Windows and 3.12.11 for Mac, with Windows packages labeled for 32-bit and 64-bit systems. Version numbers can change, so check the page for the current package and your Windows architecture before installing.

Foscam describes VMS as supporting “all Foscam HD cameras,” but its documentation does not establish a current, model-by-model compatibility list. Check the exact camera or NVR model, firmware, and computer operating-system version against the current product manual or Foscam support before a purchase or deployment.
How to add a Foscam camera or NVR to VMS
Foscam support describes two ways to add a device: search the local network or enter connection details manually. The relevant NVR manual advises that the NVR and computer be on the same LAN for local setup.

- Prepare the device and network. For LAN discovery, connect the computer and camera or NVR to the same local network. Have the device username and password ready.
- Open VMS and search the LAN. Use the device-discovery option to find the camera or NVR, then select it and enter the required credentials.
- Or add it manually. Choose the manual-add option and supply the connection information available for your device: its UID, DDNS details, or IP address, along with the required login credentials.
- Confirm that it connects. Check that the device appears in VMS and that its live view is available. If discovery fails, verify that the computer and device are on the same LAN and confirm the connection details and credentials.

How to open camera settings
Foscam’s stated order is to add the camera to VMS first and then open its settings. After the camera has been added, select its settings in the device controls. The available options may differ by camera model and software release. Foscam’s camera-settings instructions for VMS provide the vendor’s workflow.

How to configure camera Wi-Fi through VMS
Foscam’s Wi-Fi setup workflow uses VMS to enter the target wireless network name (SSID) and password, then generate a QR code for the camera to scan. The camera must be ready for Wi-Fi configuration for this method to work.
- Add the camera to VMS and open its Wi-Fi configuration settings.
- Enter the target Wi-Fi network’s SSID and password, then generate the QR code in VMS.
- Present the QR code to the camera as directed by its setup procedure, and allow it to complete configuration.
Use the instructions for your specific camera alongside Foscam’s VMS Wi-Fi configuration guide; the reviewed support guidance does not establish that every camera has the same readiness steps or QR-scanning behavior.

Accounts, passwords, and security limits
The cited Foscam NVR manual recommends creating local accounts and managing passwords. Use unique, strong credentials for devices and accounts, and follow your organization’s current security practices. What to verify before relying on VMS
- Exact device compatibility: confirm the camera or NVR model and firmware with its current manual or Foscam support; broad product claims are not a complete compatibility matrix.
- Operating-system support: check the current download page and package requirements for your computer.
- Feature availability: verify that the functions you need—such as PTZ, alerts, recording, or playback—are supported by your specific device and VMS release.
- Network access: for LAN discovery, keep the computer and NVR on the same local network; for manual setup, have the correct UID, DDNS, or IP details and credentials.
