The table below converts Epic’s 08:00 UTC schedule into commonly used local clocks. These are the scheduled downtime-start times, not a promise that every device will finish downloading or allow login at exactly that minute.

Some labels in the published conversion are seasonally imprecise. October observes daylight saving in parts of North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, so your device may display a daylight-time abbreviation instead of PT, ET, CET, AEST or NZST. Convert from 08:00 UTC rather than relying on the abbreviation.

When did Fortnite downtime start?
Epic’s status notice said: Scheduled downtime for v42.40 begins at 4 AM ET (8 AM UTC). Matchmaking will be disabled 30 minutes prior.
In practical terms, players could be prevented from entering a match from approximately 07:30 UTC, even though the scheduled maintenance window began at 08:00 UTC.

Maintenance completion
The same public status record marked the incident completed at 10:02 UTC on October 15, 2026. That is the official maintenance-complete timestamp, but it does not establish one universal “ready to play” moment for every platform. Console and PC clients may still need to download, install and verify the patch, and regional service recovery can take time.

Island publishing requirement coming October 22
Starting October 22, 2026, Epic says island publishing and updates will require portrait thumbnails, landscape thumbnails and logos. Creators should prepare those three image types before their next submission; this requirement is separate from the October 15 downtime start.

How to tell whether the update is live
- Check the clock against 08:00 UTC, October 15, 2026, not only your local abbreviation.
- Launch Fortnite and allow the platform to check for an update. If a download is offered, install it fully before troubleshooting login problems.
- After installation, restart the game so the client refreshes its service connection.
- If matchmaking remains unavailable, wait for the service status to move from maintenance to operational; the 10:02 UTC completion record is the authoritative maintenance milestone.
- On consoles, leave enough free storage for the patch and any temporary installation files. A completed download does not necessarily mean the files have finished applying.
Epic does not guarantee an identical client-ready time across PC, console and cloud platforms. “Downtime ended” and “my device finished updating” are therefore different events.

Common time-zone mistakes
Confusing ET with a fixed UTC offset
Epic’s notice uses 4:00 a.m. ET and explicitly pairs it with 08:00 UTC. ET can mean Eastern Daylight Time or Eastern Standard Time depending on the date. Use the paired UTC value for this release.
Assuming the listed Australia or New Zealand label applies everywhere
The conversion list labels the times AEST and NZST, while some locations use daylight-saving variants in October. The instant remains 08:00 UTC even when a local clock uses AEDT or NZDT.

Expecting the scheduled time to equal login availability
The schedule identifies when maintenance starts. Download speed, installation checks and platform rollout can move the moment you can actually sign in, so a short delay after the status changes is normal.
