The update matters to play, not just menus: in a conversation-led deduction game, misunderstanding a prompt or choice can make an innocent player look like a traitor. The main game and each player’s mobile-browser controller can also use different languages.
Why language can change a round
Forest of Deceit is a social deduction game for four to eight players, played locally or online through screen sharing. Players use mobile web browsers as controllers while they discuss events and try to distinguish the “Innocents” from the “Traitors.” The group gathers resources to build a shelter before a storm, while traitors try to sabotage the effort.

That design makes clear, contextual wording part of the game’s mechanics. If a player misunderstands what a button or choice means, their action can look suspicious to everyone else—even if the confusion, rather than deception, explains it. Xbox Wire’s John Sherwood, a 3rd Party Product Specialist, put it this way: “The last thing you want in a game about lying is to look suspicious just because you didn’t understand what exactly was happening.” Read the Xbox Wire announcement.
Which languages the update adds
The 2026 update adds six languages: German, French, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, and Italian. Xbox Wire says the team worked closely with translators to preserve meaning and distinctions that affect what players understand they are doing. One example is the difference between getting lost randomly and being forcibly ousted by other players—two events that should not read as the same outcome.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The update therefore addresses more than whether a language appears in a menu. For a game where players infer intent from events and choices, translated text needs to make the relevant action and its consequence intelligible.
How separate language settings work
The main game and individual mobile-browser controllers can be configured separately. For example, the game itself can be set to English while one player’s controller is set to Italian. This lets players with different language preferences share a session without requiring every screen to use the same language.

The announcement establishes that separate configuration is available, but does not give a step-by-step settings path. Look for language options in the game and controller interfaces rather than assuming the controller automatically follows the main game’s setting.

What this update does—and does not establish
The six-language addition gives players more options for understanding the game and configuring their own controller. It does not establish a measured improvement in accessibility, sales, or player retention, and Xbox Wire publishes no quantified outcome for the update. Its significance is practical and specific: in a game that asks people to interpret one another, reducing avoidable language confusion can help keep suspicion focused on the actual deduction.
