A crate engine is an engine-only catalog product. Its MSRP is not the price of a finished, road-ready vehicle or an installed engine. The catalog figures do not establish installation costs, labor, vehicle compatibility, current stock, or equivalent warranty coverage.
#1 Best Overall
- Now equipped with Ford Performance "Z2" Cylinder Heads-this head promotes improved power throughout the rpm range while retaining OEM exhaust and accessory mounting locations
- 427 crate engine is engineered and built for drive-ability and durability while delivering big power
- 535 horsepower at 5600 rpm 545 left torque at 4500 rpm
- Fit type: Universal Fit
Ford’s vehicle pricing also has a different basis: Ford says displayed base-vehicle MSRP excludes destination and delivery fees, taxes, government fees, and dealer fees, and dealers determine the selling price. A crate-engine MSRP cannot be compared directly with a vehicle’s starting MSRP to identify the least expensive V8 Ford.

2026 Ford F-150
Ford lists a 5.0L Ti-VCT V8 among the 2026 F-150 powertrains and also names a 5.0L V8 in the available STX Lobo package. The lineup includes other engines as well, so the F-150 name alone does not mean a particular truck has a V8. Ford gives the 5.0L V8 a maximum available tow rating of 12,800 lb; actual capacity depends on configuration and equipment. See Ford’s 2026 F-150 page for its lineup and qualifications.
2026 Ford Mustang GT
The 2026 Mustang order guide lists a 5.0L Ti-VCT V8 for GT and GT Premium configurations. It includes Fastback and Convertible combinations with six-speed manual or 10-speed automatic transmission options. That establishes the engine and configuration choices, not a price comparison against V8-equipped F-150s. The details are in Ford’s 2026 Mustang Order Guide, dated March 27, 2026.
Is the 5.0L V8 cheaper in an F-150 or a Mustang?
The available evidence does not answer that question. Ford’s 2026 F-150 page confirms a 5.0L V8 option, and the 2026 Mustang guide confirms 5.0L V8 GT configurations, but the cited material does not provide comparable starting prices for specific V8-equipped vehicles. A fair comparison would need matching model-year vehicle prices and configurations, with options, destination charges, taxes, dealer fees, and regional availability considered separately.
Likewise, the crate-engine prices do not show that a 7.3L engine can be installed in a Mustang or that either catalog engine is a direct fit for a particular vehicle. The listed prices establish only the catalog comparison between those engine products.
