The report said the aircraft descended from about 33,000 feet to 17,000 feet in roughly a minute, with 174 passengers aboard, and that the sequence of events was under investigation. It did not establish an official cause. The four earlier cases below involve separate cockpit hazards—and differ in how firmly the reported details are supported.
What was reported about flydubai Flight FZ1073?
In an October 1, 2026 report, Hindustan Times said Flight FZ1073 was travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv on Wednesday, September 30, when an argument between the two pilots escalated into an emergency. The article described a descent from about 33,000 feet to 17,000 feet in roughly a minute.
Those details are the newspaper’s contemporaneous account, not a final finding by an investigation authority. The report said the incident was under investigation; the cause should therefore be treated as unresolved on the information available in that account. It reported an emergency, not a crash.
Four earlier examples of cockpit hazards
SpiceJet, 2023: food and drink near cockpit controls
Hindustan Times reported that a photograph circulated showing coffee and a gujiya on a flight-deck console, and that the two pilots were taken off duty. The report quoted an unnamed airline spokesperson: “SpiceJet has a strict policy for consumption of food inside the cockpit, which is adhered to by all flight crew. Appropriate disciplinary action will be taken upon completion of the investigation.”

The article said aviation experts criticized the incident because a spill could reach critical electronics, but did not identify those experts in the supplied account. That is a stated concern about potential risk, not evidence that a spill or equipment failure occurred.
Jet Airways, 2018: alleged altercation during a flight
Hindustan Times described two pilots being grounded after an alleged altercation on a London–Mumbai flight. According to the article, the argument allegedly became violent, and the female pilot left the cockpit crying, followed by the male pilot. This account was attributed to an earlier Hindustan Times report and an airline source cited by PTI; no primary investigation report was cited in the material available here. The allegations should not be presented as established findings.

Air India, 2013: commander reportedly unable to re-enter
Hindustan Times reported that Air India flight AI 403 was diverted after its commander could not get back into the cockpit following a toilet break because the door jammed. The article quoted an Air India statement: “The commander of the flight had left the cockpit for a short while to visit the toilet, and on returning to the cockpit found the door locked. The door had jammed, and all efforts to open the door, even from inside by the co-pilot, failed.”
The co-pilot reportedly sought ground-control permission to divert to Bhopal. In this account, the airline’s quoted statement describes the door problem; the reported diversion supplies the operational response.

Air India, 2013: disputed account of cockpit attendance
Hindustan Times recounted allegations that pilots on a Bangkok–Delhi flight left the cockpit while the aircraft was on autopilot and cabin attendants were present. Air India denied that the pilots had left. The airline acknowledged that flight attendants had been in the cockpit for a prolonged period and said that, because of distraction, the co-pilot momentarily touched the autopilot-disconnect button. It said all four crew members were suspended.
The allegation that the pilots left and the airline’s account of distraction and the control contact are not the same claim. The article reported both; it does not make the allegation an established fact.

How the four cases differ
These examples are not interchangeable evidence of a single kind of cockpit failure. The SpiceJet account centers on a reported food-and-drink concern and an airline policy response; the Jet Airways account rests on allegations attributed through news reporting and an airline source; the first Air India case describes a door problem in an airline statement; and the second sets out an allegation alongside the airline’s denial and acknowledgment of other details. None of these four examples is described as a crash.
