That is the latest specific nationwide figure identified here—not an independently verified exact count or a live tally for October 2026. Axios reported the company’s figure.
What does the figure count?
It refers to cameras in Flock Safety’s network, not every automated license plate reader (ALPR) in the United States. It also does not count agencies that can access or share data. Those are different measures.

The Associated Press reported on August 13, 2026 that thousands of law-enforcement agencies in 49 states could search and share Flock data across jurisdictions. That describes the network’s agency reach; it is not a camera total, and it does not mean every agency owns cameras. The AP report provides that context.
Why there is no precise public total
The figure Axios reported came from Flock Safety. The material available does not establish an independently audited nationwide count. Flock’s official FAQ says it does not disclose camera counts for individual agency contracts or deployments, so the company’s public information does not provide a complete local-by-local inventory. Flock’s Press Center FAQ directs people seeking deployment specifics to the agency customer.

How to find a count for your area
For a city, county, or police department’s deployment, check the agency’s contract documents, public records, or official camera inventory. Flock’s company-wide figure cannot establish how many cameras are installed in a particular community.
What Flock says its cameras capture
Flock describes its license plate reader cameras as capturing point-in-time images of vehicles and limited characteristics such as license plate, make, color, and distinguishing features. The company says agencies control data-sharing permissions; these are Flock’s descriptions of its system and policies. See Flock’s official FAQ.
