A Logitech mouse that suddenly stops working on Windows 11 is usually caused by something simple: battery/power, a flaky USB port/receiver, a Bluetooth pairing glitch, or a driver that Windows updated badly. This guide is built to get you back to a working cursor fast—then make sure the fix sticks.
Start with the 2-minute checklist. If that doesn’t resolve it, follow the deeper sections based on whether your Logitech mouse uses a USB receiver or Bluetooth, then finish with driver and settings checks.

2-Minute Fix Checklist (Do These First)
These steps resolve the highest-percentage failures without advanced troubleshooting.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Remove power: Turn the mouse off (if it has a switch) and remove the USB receiver or disable Bluetooth.
- Power-cycle Windows: Shut down the PC, wait 30 seconds, then boot back into Windows 11.
- Check batteries: If your mouse uses AA/AAA or a removable cell, replace them with fresh ones. If it’s rechargeable, plug it in and fully charge.
- Try a different port: Plug the USB receiver into a different USB port (avoid front-panel ports). If possible, use a USB 2.0 port.
- Reconnect the receiver: Unplug and replug the receiver once the PC is running.
- For Bluetooth models: Turn Bluetooth off and back on, then re-pair the mouse.
If the cursor appears immediately after any one change, stop there. If not, proceed to diagnosis.

Quick Diagnosis: What Exactly Is Failing?
Different symptoms point to different fixes. Identify which one matches your situation.
- Mouse not detected: Cursor freezes, no movement, or Windows plays the device connect sound then ignores it.
- No button response: Cursor moves but clicks/side buttons don’t work.
- Scroll issues: Wheel scroll is jumpy or inverted.
- Works for a minute then stops: Often a power management or driver glitch.
Fixes for Logitech USB Receiver Mice
USB receiver mice rely on a small dongle. Windows 11 can drop it if the port, receiver, or driver misbehaves.
Platform: Windows 11 Device reconnect + port test
- Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices.
- Plug the USB receiver into a different USB port.
- If a device icon appears/disappears, leave it plugged in and continue to driver steps.
- If Windows doesn’t show anything, try the receiver on another PC (quick hardware check).
Platform: Replace the receiver connection path
- If your Logitech setup includes a USB extension cable (commonly used to reduce interference), try it.
- Avoid hubs and front-panel USB ports when troubleshooting.
- Keep the receiver away from other wireless transmitters (Wi-Fi routers, USB 3.0 devices).
Fixes for Logitech Bluetooth Mice
Bluetooth issues often look like random disconnects or total lack of cursor movement.
Platform: Re-pair the mouse in Windows 11
- Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Devices.
- Find your Logitech mouse, select the device name, then choose Remove.
- Put the mouse into pairing mode (for many Logitech models: switch modes or hold the pairing button until the LED blinks).
- Click Add device → Bluetooth.
- Select the mouse from the list and finish pairing.
Platform: Toggle Bluetooth and power states
- In Settings → Bluetooth & devices, turn Bluetooth Off.
- Wait 10 seconds, then turn it On.
- Confirm the mouse has battery power (fully charged if rechargeable).
Update, Reinstall, or Roll Back the Mouse Driver
If Windows installed a bad driver update, you can fix it by updating, reinstalling, or rolling back the driver in Device Manager.

As an optional alternative to manual checks, Outbyte Driver Updater can help identify and update problematic Windows device drivers; you can continue using Device Manager if you prefer.
Platform: Device Manager reinstall
- Right-click the Start button → Device Manager.
- Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
- Right-click your Logitech mouse (or HID-compliant mouse) → choose Uninstall device.
- Check Attempt to remove the driver for this device if shown.
- Restart Windows 11.
- Reconnect the USB receiver or re-pair Bluetooth so Windows reinstall the driver.
Platform: Update driver
- Open Device Manager again.
- Right-click the mouse device → Update driver → Search automatically for drivers.
- If Windows finds nothing, continue with the next method (Logitech software + rollback).
Platform: Roll back a driver (only if available)
- In Device Manager, right-click the mouse → Properties.
- Go to the Driver tab.
- Click Roll Back Driver (if the button is active) and follow the prompts.
- Restart and test.
Version note: Windows 11 builds vary, but the core path above is consistent across 22H2 and 23H2. If you recently updated Windows, rolling back can be a quick win.
Reset Windows Mouse Settings That Can Break Tracking
Sometimes the mouse is fine but Windows settings make it feel “not working” (cursor stutters, movement is too slow, or clicks don’t register reliably).
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Platform: Adjust pointer speed and click options
- Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Mouse.
- Set Pointer speed to a neutral value (for example, mid-range).
- Disable features that can interfere with responsiveness: turn off Enhance pointer precision if present via legacy mouse settings.
- Open Mouse settings (related) → check Double-click speed and adjust if needed.
Platform: Turn off mouse acceleration temporarily (if cursor feels wrong)
- Open the legacy control panel: Control Panel → Mouse.
- Under Pointer Options, uncheck Enhance pointer precision.
- Apply, test for 1–2 minutes, then keep or revert based on results.
Fix USB Power Management (Stops the Mouse Mid-Session)
If your Logitech mouse works briefly then stops, USB power saving can cut power to the receiver.
Platform: Disable “Allow the computer to turn off this device”
- Right-click Start → Device Manager.
- Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Look for entries related to your USB controller/receiver (common: USB Root Hub or Generic USB Hub).
- Right-click one → Properties.
- Go to Power Management.
- Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
- Repeat for relevant hubs/controllers and restart.
Check for Interference and Hardware Faults
Even a good mouse can fail if the receiver is starved, obstructed, or blocked by signal noise.
Rank #3
- Wireless Connectivity: The mouse connects wirelessly for convenient use.
- Long Battery Life: The mouse has an average battery life of 18 months.
- Ambidextrous Design: The mouse has a design that works equally well for both left and right-handed users.
- High-Precision Tracking: The mouse has a laser sensor that provides precise tracking and control.
- Ergonomic Design: The mouse has a contoured shape that is comfortable to use for extended periods.
- USB 3.0 interference: If you’re using a USB 3.0 port, try moving the receiver to a different port or using a short USB extension cable.
- Surface matters: Some optical tracking struggles on glass/very glossy surfaces. Try a mouse pad.
- LED behavior: If the mouse LED is dim/irregular, batteries are a top suspect.
- Receiver mismatch: Some Logitech mice need the correct pairing with their specific receiver. If your dongle isn’t the original, test with the correct one.
Advanced: Replace the HID Driver and Clear Stuck Devices
If the problem persists, you can force Windows to recreate the HID device and clear a stuck device entry.
Platform: Clear stale devices and rescan hardware
- Open Device Manager.
- From the top menu, click Action → Scan for hardware changes.
- If your mouse still appears broken, uninstall the device again (as in the driver reinstall section) and restart.
Platform: Use Logitech Options+ (for supported models)
- Install or update Logitech Options+ from the official Logitech site.
- Open the app and check device status. If the mouse is detected there but not in Windows cursor behavior, keep focus on driver/power settings.
- If the mouse firmware/app shows an update, install it and reboot.
When It Works… But Buttons Don’t (or Scroll Feels Wrong)
Non-working clicks and broken scrolling are often mapping/config issues rather than a raw hardware failure.

FAQs
Why does my Logitech mouse stop working after a Windows 11 update?
Driver updates or USB/Bluetooth stack changes can break device compatibility. Start by uninstalling the mouse from Device Manager, rebooting, and reconnecting. If that fails, roll back the driver if the option is available.

My Logitech USB receiver works in other PCs, but not on this one. What should I check?
Try a different USB port, avoid hubs, and disable USB power saving for the relevant Root Hub/USB controller. Then uninstall/reinstall the mouse device in Device Manager and scan for hardware changes.
Bluetooth mouse pairs, but the cursor won’t move.
Remove the device from Settings → Bluetooth & devices, then re-pair. Also check the battery state and try toggling Bluetooth off/on. If it still pairs but doesn’t move, reinstall the HID-compliant mouse driver via Device Manager.
Should I use Logitech Options or Options+ for Windows 11?
Use the version recommended for your model. Many newer devices are managed through Logitech Options+. If the mouse isn’t functioning, you can uninstall the app temporarily to test whether software remapping is the cause, then reinstall a clean version.
Can I fix a hardware issue with a software change?
If the mouse LED never responds, the receiver is dead, or pairing never succeeds on another PC, it’s likely hardware. Software steps help most when Windows detects the device but cursor behavior is broken.
Bottom Line
If you only do one thing, do the 2-minute checklist: battery/power check, USB receiver port swap, and a proper reconnect (or re-pair for Bluetooth). Most Logitech mouse failures on Windows 11 come down to power, receiver/USB handling, or a driver reinstall fixing the device cleanly.
If the mouse works briefly then stops, disable USB power management in Device Manager. If buttons/scrolling are wrong, reset mapping in Logitech Options+ and reinstall the driver to restore correct HID behavior.
