If Premiere Pro 26.3 shows render errors or memory growth while using Camera Shake, Adobe documented a defect that could occur when rendering fell back to CPU (software) mode. Adobe says it was fixed in Premiere 26.5, so update to version 26.5 or later for this specific issue. Scrub lag can have a different cause; the update is not a guaranteed fix for every slow or choppy preview.
Update Premiere to fix the documented Camera Shake defect
Adobe lists a Camera Shake issue in Premiere 26.3 on both Mac and Windows. Under CPU or software-rendering fallback, the effect could cause a memory leak and render errors. Adobe identifies Premiere 26.5 as the version in which the issue was fixed.

- Open Adobe Creative Cloud and check for a Premiere Pro update, or use the update method provided for your installation.
- Install Premiere 26.5 or a later version, then reopen the project and test the sequence that showed the problem.
- If you cannot update immediately, avoid treating repeated memory growth or render errors in this specific scenario as proof that you need more RAM or a new GPU. Adobe’s documented remedy is the software fix, not a hardware change.

Check whether the remaining lag is a different scrubbing issue
Adobe’s Premiere 26.5 release notes separately mention laggy or skipped frames during thumbnail hover scrubbing and reduced scrubbing performance with certain high-bitrate H.264 UHD video. The notes do not link these symptoms to the Camera Shake memory leak, so persistent lag alone does not establish that the Camera Shake defect remains.

Adobe’s Premiere desktop release notes describe these performance issues but do not provide a universal procedure for diagnosing every form of scrub lag.
What to record if scrubbing is still slow
- Your Premiere version and operating system.
- Whether the issue occurs while hovering over thumbnails or scrubbing the timeline.
- Whether Camera Shake is applied to the affected footage.
- The media format, including whether it is high-bitrate H.264 UHD.
- Whether the problem is memory growth or render errors, rather than preview lag alone.
These details help separate the documented 26.3 Camera Shake defect from other playback and scrubbing symptoms. Adobe’s cited notes do not establish that cache purges, memory-cleaning utilities, third-party plugins, presets, or hardware upgrades fix this specific defect.
