Microsoft simplified the app bar in 2026, moving overflow apps to View more apps and adding a show-or-hide option. If you mean the controls inside a meeting, these are a separate interface; the app-bar change does not explain a missing meeting control bar.
For a missing or unresponsive app bar, check whether it is hidden, reset Teams zoom, then clear or reset the Teams cache using the instructions for your version of Teams. Cache steps differ between New and Classic Teams.
First, identify which toolbar is missing

Microsoft’s 2026 app-bar change applied to the Teams desktop app for Windows and macOS. It simplified the bar, moved overflow apps into View more apps, and added the ability to show or hide the bar. The rollout was scheduled from mid-March through the end of April 2026, and the feature was enabled by default. The announcement does not establish a universal fix for missing meeting controls.
Quick checks for the Teams app bar
- Toggle the app bar: press Ctrl + \\ on Windows or Cmd + \\ on macOS. These shortcuts apply to the simplified app bar, not the meeting control bar.
- Check View more apps for apps that are no longer shown directly on the bar.
- If the app is present but Teams looks zoomed in or out, reset desktop-app zoom with Ctrl + 0 on Windows or Control + 0 on macOS. The Teams web app does not list a zoom-reset shortcut.
- Restart Teams and check again. If the problem remains, use the cache or reset steps for your Teams version below.
Clear or reset Teams on Windows
Use the instructions that match your installed version. The path %appdata%\\Microsoft\\Teams is documented for Classic Teams; it is not the current cache path for New Teams.

New Teams: reset the app
- Open Windows Settings.
- Select Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for Microsoft Teams, select its More options (…) button, then select Advanced options.
- In the Reset section, select Reset.
- Restart Teams and check the app bar.
Resetting deletes Teams app data, including configured personalization settings.
New Teams: manually clear its cache files
- Quit Teams by right-clicking its taskbar icon and selecting Quit.
- Press Windows logo key + R, enter
%userprofile%\\appdata\\local\\Packages\\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\\LocalCache\\Microsoft\\MSTeams, and select OK. - Delete all files and folders in that directory.
- Restart Teams and check the app bar.
Classic Teams: manually clear its cache files
- Quit Teams.
- Press Windows logo key + R, enter
%appdata%\\Microsoft\\Teams, and select OK. - Delete all files and folders in that directory.
- Restart Teams and check the app bar.
After cache deletion, the first restart may take longer than usual while Teams rebuilds its cache.

Clear the Teams cache on macOS
Use the steps for New or Classic Teams. These commands delete the relevant Teams data, so check the version before running them.
New Teams
- Quit Teams from the Dock context menu or press Command (⌘) + Q.
- Open Finder > Applications > Utilities, then open Terminal.
- Run each command separately:
rm -rf ~/Library/Group\\ Containers/UBF8T346G9.com.microsoft.teamsrm -rf ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.teams2 - Restart Teams and check the app bar.
Classic Teams
- Quit Teams.
- Open Terminal and run:
rm -r ~/Library/Application\\ Support/Microsoft/Teams - Restart Teams and check the app bar.
The first restart after clearing cache may take longer than usual while Teams rebuilds its cache.

Find keyboard shortcuts in Teams
To check shortcuts in the current desktop or web app, select Settings and more in the upper-right corner, then select Keyboard shortcuts. In the desktop app, Ctrl + Period (.) opens the shortcut window; on Mac, use Command + Period (.).
When the app bar is present, app navigation shortcuts depend on platform: Windows desktop uses Ctrl + 1 through Ctrl + 9; macOS desktop uses Command + 1 through Command + 9; and the web app uses Ctrl + Shift + 1 through Ctrl + Shift + 9. The number corresponds to the app’s position on the bar, so reordering apps changes the shortcut mapping.

If the meeting control bar is missing
The meeting control bar is distinct from the app bar. The available documentation does not establish one universal setting or fix for every case where meeting controls are missing. Do not use the app-bar shortcut as a meeting-control fix. Check the meeting view and whether the controls are visible in the current meeting; if the problem continues, record which controls and platform are affected and contact your organization’s Teams administrator or Microsoft support.

How do I show or hide the Teams app bar?
In the Teams desktop app, press Ctrl + \\ on Windows or Cmd + \\ on macOS. These shortcuts are for the simplified app bar, not the meeting control bar.

Is %appdata%\\Microsoft\\Teams the cache path for New Teams?
No. Microsoft documents that path for Classic Teams. New Teams on Windows uses its package’s LocalCache directory, or you can reset it in Windows Settings under Apps > Installed apps > Microsoft Teams > Advanced options.
Will resetting New Teams remove settings?
Yes. Microsoft states that resetting deletes Teams app data, including configured personalization settings.
Why does Teams take longer to open after clearing its cache?
Microsoft warns that the first restart may take longer than usual because Teams needs to rebuild cache files.
