PC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteThere is no single FFmpeg flag that safely skips every bad playlist entry. First identify which component reads the playlist: FFmpeg’s concat demuxer, an HLS manifest, or a YouTube playlist handled by a downloader such as yt-dlp. Then match the recovery method to the failure: validate or replace an entry that cannot be opened, use -fflags +discardcorrupt only for damaged packets FFmpeg can read, and use HTTP reconnect options only for relevant transport failures.
Identify which playlist is failing
“Playlist” can refer to different inputs, and the fix depends on which program reads it. FFmpeg documents its concat demuxer as reading files and directives in sequence; its FAQ distinguishes the concat demuxer, concat filter, and concat protocol. See the FFmpeg Formats Documentation and the FFmpeg FAQ.

| What the command uses | What to investigate |
|---|---|
-f concat -i list.txt |
The local concat-demuxer list, its paths or URLs, and the media files it references. |
An .m3u8 input |
The HLS manifest and the referenced segments. An entry may be stale, malformed, unavailable, or damaged. |
| A YouTube playlist URL passed to yt-dlp | The downloader’s playlist handling first. FFmpeg may only process the downloaded media or merge separate audio and video formats; it is not necessarily the component reading the YouTube playlist. See the yt-dlp FAQ. |
Before changing options, preserve the exact command, the first FFmpeg error, and the input named after -i. The title alone does not establish the playlist format, error text, FFmpeg version, or operating system, so a universal replacement command would be guesswork.
Capture the first failure and isolate the item
Keep the original evidence
Run the same job with logging sufficient to retain the first error. Record the item being processed, any HTTP status, and whether the same item fails on each attempt. Do not conclude that an entry is corrupt merely because FFmpeg exits: an unopenable path, malformed list syntax, damaged packet or segment, incompatible concat streams, and a transport interruption can all require different remedies.

Test the suspicious item on its own
Use the same FFmpeg build and, where relevant, the same headers or credentials to test the suspect file or URL independently. For a local concat list, back it up, temporarily remove or comment out the suspect entry, and check whether later known-good inputs process. For HLS, inspect the manifest and test the referenced segment independently. If a YouTube playlist is involved, establish whether yt-dlp or FFmpeg is reporting the failure before changing either tool’s options.
A failure that recurs at the same item is a reason to inspect that reference or source. A failure that moves between attempts is more consistent with a transient condition. This is a troubleshooting heuristic, not proof of the cause; the FFmpeg-user mailing-list discussion “ffmpeg retry failed segments” makes the same distinction.

Choose the fix for the failure layer
| Approach | Targets | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Validate or filter playlist entries | Missing, stale, or invalid paths, URLs, or manifest references | Requires control of the playlist generator or a wrapper that checks entries before processing. |
-fflags +discardcorrupt |
Corrupted packets that FFmpeg can read | May discard damaged content; it does not open or skip a missing entry or repair malformed playlist syntax. |
| HTTP reconnect options | Applicable connection, EOF, or HTTP failures | Protocol-specific; cannot make an invalid playlist reference valid. |
| Re-encode or use the concat filter | Inputs with incompatible stream layouts that cannot be concatenated as-is | Requires more processing and may reduce quality compared with stream copy. |
For damaged packets: discard only what FFmpeg can read
The FFmpeg Formats Documentation describes the discardcorrupt input flag as “Discard corrupted packets.” The commonly used spelling is -fflags +discardcorrupt, placed before the affected input, for example:

- Brand Yourself - Brand the flash drive with your company's name and provide company's overview, policies, etc. to the newly joined employees or your customers
This example applies to a single input and is not a general playlist skip command. It may omit damaged content. If FFmpeg cannot open a referenced file or segment at all, discarding corrupt packets does not solve that failure. Consult the formats documentation for the flag and other input behavior.
For network interruptions: use HTTP reconnect options selectively
FFmpeg’s native HTTP protocol documents options including reconnect, reconnect_at_eof, reconnect_on_network_error, reconnect_on_http_error, reconnect_streamed, and reconnect_delay_max, along with retry and delay limits. Choose only options that match the protocol and observed failure; their presence does not fix a stale URL, malformed manifest, or missing file. See the FFmpeg Protocols Documentation.

For a bad reference: validate or replace the playlist entry
If the path or URL is invalid or unavailable, make the playlist producer check each entry and omit or replace unavailable items, or process entries through a wrapper that handles failures one at a time. The reviewed FFmpeg documentation does not establish a universal concat-demuxer switch that skips every failed entry. Do not present packet-discard or HTTP-reconnect flags as substitutes for entry validation.

When using the concat demuxer, verify that the files have the same streams and compatible layouts. FFmpeg’s documentation warns that incorrect durations can cause timestamp artifacts in later content. If the inputs do not meet the concat-demuxer requirements, consider re-encoding or using the concat filter rather than assuming stream-copy concatenation will work. Common symptoms and what to check
- FFmpeg reports that an input cannot be opened. Check the exact path or URL, permissions, availability, and whether the playlist reference is stale. Packet-discard flags cannot open an unavailable input.
- The first error names a malformed line or manifest. Inspect the playlist syntax and the entry around the reported location; correct or remove the invalid reference at the source.
- A segment produces decoding or packet errors but processing can continue. Test whether
-fflags +discardcorruptis appropriate for that input, understanding that damaged content may be lost. - HTTP errors or network failures vary between runs. Check the specific status and protocol, then consider the documented HTTP reconnect options that match that failure. Reconnect does not repair a bad reference.
- Concat output has timestamp artifacts or fails on a particular file. Compare the inputs’ streams and durations; incompatible layouts may require a different concat workflow.
- A YouTube playlist fails during download or extraction. Determine whether yt-dlp reports the error or FFmpeg does. If yt-dlp is handling the playlist, changing FFmpeg’s concat or HTTP flags may target the wrong layer.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is to keep a YouTube channel live from uploaded recordings rather than to repair this particular FFmpeg job, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Every slot streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly is $9.99 per month. Start the free day on StreamNeo.
