If OBS Studio does not show a YouTube Stream Key box, it may be using its connected YouTube account instead of the manual-key workflow. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, check whether a YouTube account is connected, and disconnect it or choose Use Stream Key (advanced) if that option appears. Then copy the intended key from YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and enter it in OBS. This is the leading explanation, not a guaranteed diagnosis; exact labels can differ by OBS version.
Why the Stream Key box may be missing
OBS supports both a connected-account workflow and a manual stream-key workflow. When OBS is connected to a YouTube account, it can handle stream selection through that integration, so a separate editable key field may not appear. OBS community reports describe the same symptom and say disconnecting the account exposed the field, but that result is not guaranteed for every version or setup.

The stream key is a credential YouTube uses to accept the feed from an encoder. YouTube’s standard encoder workflow uses a stream URL and key in the streaming software. The missing field by itself does not establish that OBS is damaged or that your YouTube account has an India-specific restriction.

- Open OBS’s stream settings. In OBS Studio, go to Settings > Stream and confirm that the service or destination is YouTube.
- Check the connection method. If OBS shows that a YouTube account is connected and there is no editable key box, disconnect the account or select Use Stream Key (advanced) if your installed version offers it. Button names and availability can vary by version.
- Copy the key for the intended broadcast. In a browser, open YouTube Studio, choose Go Live, then open the Stream tab in Live Control Room. Copy the stream key for the stream you plan to use.
- Enter the key in OBS. Paste it into the Stream Key field and apply the settings. Confirm that the YouTube service or server selection is appropriate; YouTube’s encoder setup calls for the stream URL and key.
- Test before going live. Start streaming in OBS and wait for the incoming feed or preview in Live Control Room. Check that the correct video and audio arrive before clicking Go live. YouTube recommends testing encoder setups and recommends RTMPS.
Connected account or manual key?
| Workflow | What to expect | When it may fit |
|---|---|---|
| Connected YouTube account | OBS uses the signed-in account integration; a separate editable key may not be shown. | When account authentication works and you do not need to enter or manage a particular key directly in OBS. |
| Manual stream key | OBS exposes a Stream Key field when the manual option is available; you copy the key from YouTube Studio and paste it into OBS. | When you need to select or manage a particular YouTube stream key, or need the editable key field. |
Neither workflow is universally best. Choose based on whether the account connection works and whether you need direct control over the key. YouTube describes stream keys as credentials that direct the encoder feed to the right stream and allow YouTube to accept it.

If the field is still missing or the stream will not connect
- You cannot find the manual option: Recheck the selected service and account-connection state under Settings > Stream. Look for the current version’s manual or advanced stream-key control; the exact label can vary. The evidence for disconnecting the account is based on community reports, so the field may remain unavailable for another reason.
- The key is rejected or OBS reports an encoder error: Return to Live Control Room, obtain the key for the intended stream, and update the encoder settings in OBS. Confirm that you copied the whole key and selected the appropriate YouTube service or server.
- You suspect the key was exposed: In Live Control Room’s Stream tab, the owner or a manager can reset it. After resetting, replace the old value in OBS with the new key.
- The connected-account sign-in path fails: If OBS is using its account integration rather than a manual key and authentication does not work, YouTube directs users to the third-party software’s support. The manual workflow is an alternative when available.
- YouTube shows no incoming preview: Check that OBS is actively streaming, the intended key and YouTube destination are selected, and the encoder settings have been applied. Wait for the incoming stream in Live Control Room and verify it before going live.
The documented workflow is not specific to India, and the available evidence does not establish a country-specific fix for this interface issue. The same OBS and YouTube checks apply; the exact control shown depends on the installed OBS version and connection state.
