Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If you plan to keep an Android phone for five years, start with its software-support commitment—but do not mistake that for a guarantee of five years of good battery life, smooth performance, or available repairs. The Google Pixel 10a and Pixel 9a have the clearest support terms in this shortlist: Google promises seven years of OS and security updates for both. Samsung says the Galaxy A27 5G gets up to six generations of OS and One UI upgrades and up to six years of security updates. The Galaxy A57 and Nothing Phone (4a) Pro are also candidates, but their terms in the available information come from secondary reporting rather than manufacturer policy pages.
What “last five years” should mean
A long update promise is a useful starting point, not a complete lifespan rating. Major Android or OS upgrades and security updates are separate: security patches may continue after major-version upgrades end. A phone could therefore remain covered for security issues while no longer receiving new Android versions.

Support periods also have a start date. Google says its seven-year Pixel commitment begins when a model first became available on Google Store in the US. Samsung dates the A27 5G’s security period from its initial global launch. Those clocks do not necessarily begin on the day you buy the phone.
Software policy does not establish how fast a phone will feel years later, how its battery will age, or whether replacement parts and repairs will be practical where you live. Android Authority’s discussion of long-term phone choices considers performance headroom alongside update length; that is a separate question from the manufacturers’ support promises. Check local repair options, the exact regional model, and the price you can actually buy before treating any of these as a five-year fit.

Five Android phones to consider
This is a support-focused shortlist, not a claim that the phones have equal performance, value, durability, or availability. The strongest verified comparison here is the length and scope of software support.
| Model | OS upgrades | Security updates | What the available evidence establishes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Pixel 10a | Seven years of OS updates | Seven years | Google lists the Pixel 10a under its policy for Pixel 8 and later phones. The term starts at first US Google Store availability. Google support policy |
| Google Pixel 9a | Seven years of OS updates | Seven years | Google lists it under the same policy. Google announced a US launch price of $499 in March 2025; that is not a current-price quote. Google support policy and Google’s Pixel 9a announcement |
| Samsung Galaxy A27 5G | Up to six generations of Android OS and One UI upgrades | Up to six years from initial global launch | Samsung announced select-market availability from July 3, 2026. The “up to” wording and market limits matter. Samsung Mobile Press announcement |
| Samsung Galaxy A57 | Six numbered Android updates, according to Tom’s Guide | Six calendar years, according to Tom’s Guide | These terms are reported in a secondary roundup; manufacturer policy for the exact regional model is not established here. Tom’s Guide comparison |
| Nothing Phone (4a) Pro | Three major Android updates, according to Tom’s Guide | Six years, according to Tom’s Guide | The reported security window may cover a five-year plan, but the major-version window is shorter. Google Pixel 10a: strongest support-first option
Google’s official policy places the Pixel 10a among Pixel 8 and later devices covered for seven years of both OS and security updates. That makes it the clearest fit here if your first filter is a published support window that exceeds five years. Google’s timing is tied to the model’s first US Google Store availability, so check the policy and local product listing for your market.

Google Pixel 9a: long support, with launch specs as context
The Pixel 9a has the same seven-year OS and security commitment in Google’s policy. At its March 2025 announcement, Google listed a 6.3-inch display, 48 MP main and 13 MP ultrawide rear cameras, IP68 water- and dust-resistance, and a US starting price of $499. Those are launch-announcement details, not a statement of today’s street price or a prediction of five-year performance. Google’s Pixel 9a announcement
Samsung Galaxy A27 5G: a qualified six-year commitment
Samsung’s announcement says the A27 5G receives “up to six generations” of Android OS and One UI upgrades and “up to six years” of security updates from initial global launch. It also describes availability as select-market, beginning July 3, 2026. Samsung lists a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with 120 Hz refresh and a Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chipset. Confirm that the exact model is sold and supported in your country; the announcement does not establish universal availability or guarantee every device receives the maximum stated support.

Samsung Galaxy A57: verify the promise locally
Tom’s Guide reports six numbered Android updates and six calendar years of security updates for the Galaxy A57. Because those terms are not backed here by an opened Samsung policy page, verify them against Samsung’s support information for the intended country and SKU before buying. Treat this as a candidate to check, not as equivalent in evidential certainty to the Pixel policy or Samsung’s A27 announcement.
Nothing Phone (4a) Pro: security coverage outlasts major upgrades
Tom’s Guide reports three major Android updates and six years of security updates for the Phone (4a) Pro. That distinction is central: the reported security window reaches beyond a five-year ownership target, while the major-version upgrade count does not. Confirm the terms with Nothing for the precise regional model; manufacturer confirmation is not established here.

What to check before buying for a five-year plan
- Exact model and region: Match the full model name and SKU to the manufacturer’s local support page. Availability and policy wording can vary by market.
- Support end date: Find the policy’s start point and calculate the remaining period from when support began, not just from your purchase date.
- OS versus security coverage: Check both counts separately. A longer security window does not mean the phone continues to get major Android upgrades for the same duration.
- Battery and repairs: This evidence does not establish multi-year battery outcomes or parts availability for these models. Check whether battery replacement and other common repairs are accessible in your area.
- Performance and configuration: Compare the exact RAM and storage version you can buy, and look for credible device-specific performance evidence. A support promise alone cannot show whether apps will remain responsive to your needs.
- Price and stock: Prices and local availability were not established consistently across all five models. Compare current local listings rather than treating a launch price or a select-market announcement as a present offer.
How to choose among them
For the clearest documented update coverage, begin with the Pixel 10a or Pixel 9a: Google explicitly lists both for seven years of OS and security updates. Consider the Galaxy A27 5G if Samsung confirms the stated “up to” coverage for the version sold in your market. The A57 and Phone (4a) Pro need extra policy verification; for the Nothing model, weigh the reported three major upgrades against its reported six-year security term.
Whichever model you choose, treat five years as an ownership goal supported by software policy—not as a guaranteed service life. Battery condition, repairability, actual performance, and local parts access remain independent checks.
