FitLog is a self-hosted MCP server that its author describes as a way for Alexa+ to record workouts, retrieve exercise history and personal records, plan sessions, and track protein and nutrition targets. The project report says it uses Python’s standard library and OAuth 2.1; those implementation details and its test results are author-reported, not independently verified.
What FitLog is designed to do
FitLog connects Alexa+ to a personal fitness log through the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Instead of entering a set by hand, the article gives this spoken example: “log bench press, 185 for 5, three sets.” That is an illustrative command, not evidence of measured recognition accuracy or performance.

The author describes six tools:
log_workoutrecords an exercise session.get_historyretrieves workout history.get_personal_recordslooks up personal records.plan_workoutsupports workout planning.log_proteinrecords protein information.get_nutrition_targetsretrieves nutrition targets.
The combination is intended to make logging and looking up personal fitness information available through voice. It does not establish that Alexa+ automatically detects exercises or tracks activity without a user request.
What the author reports about the implementation
According to the project description, FitLog is written using only Python’s standard library, uses Streamable HTTP, and implements MCP specification version 2025-11-25. The author also reports SQLite storage for authorization codes and tokens, the fitlog.read and fitlog.write scopes, rate limiting on owner login, and a fail-closed behavior when no password is configured.

- Your favorite music and content – Play music, audiobooks, and podcasts from Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify and others or via Bluetooth throughout your home.
- Alexa is happy to help – Ask Alexa for weather updates and to set hands-free timers, get answers to your questions and even hear jokes. Need a few extra minutes in the morning? Just tap your Echo Dot to snooze your alarm.
- Keep your home comfortable – Control compatible smart home devices with your voice and routines triggered by built-in motion or indoor temperature sensors. Create routines to automatically turn on lights when you walk into a room, or start a fan if the inside temperature goes above your comfort zone.
- Do more with device pairing – Fill your home with music using compatible Echo devices in different rooms, or create a home theatre system with Fire TV.
- Say goodbye to drop-offs and buffering - With eero Built-in, Echo Dot doubles as a mesh wifi extender, adding up to 1,000 sq. ft. of wifi coverage to your existing eero network.
The author reports an MIT license and 49 of 49 tests passing. The project page and repository were not independently inspected, so these are claims in the author’s description—not verified code, security, or test results. The report says FitLog was built for the Alexa+ track of Amazon’s “Build, Ship, Shape” hackathon; it does not establish that the project was submitted, accepted, won, or published as an add-on.
Alexa+ requirements that matter for an MCP server
Amazon’s Alexa+ MCP QuickStart requires a server to support Streamable HTTP and be reachable at a remote URL. It also calls for RFC 9728 Protected Resource Metadata and OAuth authorization-code flow with PKCE using S256. These are platform requirements, not proof that FitLog meets them. The project description’s mention of OAuth 2.1 alone is not enough to confirm every required flow or metadata endpoint.

Amazon’s guide specifies a round-trip query response latency of less than 500 ms. No FitLog latency measurement is provided, so its compliance with that threshold is unknown.
Pay attention to Alexa+’s 401 behavior
Amazon’s current guide says an unauthenticated request should receive a 401 response without a WWW-Authenticate header, and lists that header in 401 responses as not supported yet. This is platform-specific guidance: the current MCP authorization specification describes OAuth authorization for HTTP transports, requires Protected Resource Metadata, and directs clients to send bearer tokens in the Authorization header—not in a URL query string. Older MCP authorization guidance for version 2025-06-18 called for WWW-Authenticate, so a server targeting Alexa+ should follow Amazon’s current instructions rather than assume all MCP clients handle authentication the same way.

Why account linking fits this use case
Amazon says account linking is optional, but appropriate when tools need a user’s identity, access user-specific data, or act on a customer’s behalf in its account-linking guidance. A personal workout history and logging actions fit those use cases. Linking is therefore understandable for FitLog, though the project description alone does not establish how its account-linking flow is configured in Alexa+.

| Consideration | FitLog’s described approach | Paper workout journal |
|---|---|---|
| Logging during a workout | Voice-oriented entry through Alexa+; hands-free convenience is the intended use, not a measured result. | Requires writing entries by hand. |
| Reviewing history and records | Includes named tools for workout history and personal records. | Depends on how consistently entries are recorded and organized. |
| Data control and upkeep | Self-hosted, so the operator takes responsibility for hosting and maintenance. | Physical records need no server, but must be kept and organized by the user. |
| Nutrition alongside exercise | Includes tools described for protein logging and nutrition targets. | Can be used for nutrition notes if the user chooses to record them. |
A paper log remains a practical alternative if you prefer keeping records offline or do not want to operate a server. FitLog’s described scope may appeal if you want voice access and a combined view of exercise and nutrition information.

FitLog is a clearly scoped project report: a self-hosted Alexa+ MCP server intended to handle workout and nutrition records. Its described tool set and architecture make the use case understandable, while Amazon’s current requirements identify the transport and authentication details an implementation must address. The available account of the project does not independently establish code behavior, security, test outcomes, latency, hackathon results, or current Alexa+ add-on availability.
