Fitbit Versa 4 can connect to a Samsung or Huawei phone only if the phone can run and install Google Health, the current companion app identified in Google’s setup guidance. Google’s stated Android minimum is Android 11, and setup requires a Google Account. Samsung has no special exclusion in the cited guidance, while Google warns that the Huawei P8 Lite, P9 Lite, and P20 Lite may have compatibility issues. Check the exact phone model and app availability before relying on it.
What the Versa 4 needs from an Android phone
Google’s setup requirements specify Android 11 or later for the Google Health app. The Android app is distributed through Google Play, and a Google Account is required. Meeting the operating-system minimum does not guarantee that every phone model or regional software build will work. See Google’s Google Health setup requirements.

Older instructions may refer to the Fitbit app. Google’s current setup documentation identifies Google Health as the companion app for setup and syncing. The watch communicates with the phone app over Bluetooth.
Does Fitbit Versa 4 work with Samsung phones?
A Samsung phone that runs Android 11 or later and can install Google Health meets the published baseline. The Google guidance cited here does not list a Samsung-specific exclusion, but it also does not certify every Samsung model. Check the exact handset in Google Play for app availability rather than relying on the brand name alone.

Does Fitbit Versa 4 work with Huawei phones?
Huawei compatibility is less certain. Google names the Huawei P8 Lite, P9 Lite, and P20 Lite as devices that may have compatibility issues even if they meet the stated system requirements. That is a warning about possible issues, not a claim that every unit fails.
Do not assume the warning applies to every Huawei model, or that a newer Huawei phone is automatically supported. The Google materials cited here do not establish whether Google Health can be installed or supported on Huawei phones without Google Play services, and they give no separate rule for HMS or HarmonyOS. If the phone cannot obtain Google Health from an official app store, these sources do not establish an alternative setup method.
How to set up a Versa 4 with your phone
- Check the phone first. Confirm that it runs Android 11 or later and can install Google Health from an official app store.
- Use a Google Account. Sign in to one, or create one, for Google Health. Google says Fitbit account users needed to move to a Google Account beginning May 19, 2026, to access Google Health; see the setup requirements and Google Health terms.
- Charge and turn on the watch. Open Google Health and follow its setup flow to connect the Versa 4. Google’s Versa 4 getting-started instructions cover the watch setup.
- Leave Bluetooth enabled. The watch syncs with the phone app over Bluetooth; use Google Health’s connection flow rather than relying on Bluetooth settings alone. Google also explains Android use in its Android app guidance.
If syncing or notifications stop working
Automatic syncing and phone notifications can be affected if the phone prevents Google Health from running in the background. Check the following on the phone:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Bluetooth is on and Google Health has the permissions it requests.
- Background data is allowed for Google Health.
- Battery or power-saving settings are not restricting the app’s background activity.
Android setting names and menu paths vary by phone model and software version. If a permission or battery control is difficult to locate, consult the phone maker’s instructions. Google’s Android guidance describes app use on Android phones.
Compare the exact Samsung and Huawei models
For a particular handset, work through these checks rather than treating compatibility as a manufacturer-wide yes or no:
- Does the phone run Android 11 or later?
- Can it install the current Google Health app from an official app store?
- Is it one of the Huawei models Google flags: P8 Lite, P9 Lite, or P20 Lite?
- Can Bluetooth, app permissions, background data, and background operation remain enabled?
These checks identify whether the phone meets Google’s stated baseline and whether a published warning applies; they do not establish that one manufacturer universally works better than the other.
