Garmin’s Forerunner 265 is a running smartwatch with daily health tracking, training metrics and longer stated battery life in smartwatch mode—but substantially shorter estimates during GPS workouts. These are manufacturer figures from different methods, not results of a head-to-head test.
Which Garmin model is being compared?
Garmin makes watches and trackers across a broad range, so “Garmin” does not have one set of features or battery life. This comparison uses the Forerunner 265 as a specific example: a GPS running smartwatch, not a stand-in for every Garmin device. Google describes Fitbit Edge as a slim tracker positioned between a full smartwatch and a simpler band.

Fitbit Edge’s US specifications list an always-on 1.34-inch AMOLED display, built-in GPS, 5 ATM and IP68 ratings, and compatibility with most Android phones running Android 11 or later and iPhones running iOS 16.4 or later. Setup requires a Google Account and the Google Health app. Google listed it at $179.99 in the US during preorder and announced retail availability for October 27, 2026; those are time-sensitive US details, not guarantees for other countries. The Forerunner 265 is built around running and GPS workouts, while also tracking everyday health. Garmin lists an AMOLED display with an optional always-on mode, a 5 ATM water rating, multi-band GPS and music storage. Its launch announcement dates to 2023, so current feature and regional availability should be checked with Garmin. Garmin Forerunner 265 product comparison · Garmin launch announcement

Which lasts longer?
On the published maximum for ordinary smartwatch use, the Forerunner 265 has the longer estimate. During GPS workouts, its runtime depends heavily on the selected satellite mode and whether music is playing. Fitbit Edge’s seven-day figure is a maximum for mixed everyday use, not a directly comparable GPS-workout rating.
| Device and use | Manufacturer estimate | Important conditions |
|---|---|---|
| Fitbit Edge, mixed everyday use | Up to 7 days | Google says this approximate maximum is based on 2026 testing in California using preproduction hardware and software, default settings and a median user profile with a mix of features default in Battery Saver mode. Actual results may be lower. |
| Fitbit Edge, charging | About 90 minutes for a full charge; up to one day of use from a 5-minute charge when battery is low | Google product specification; actual results depend on use. Google Store |
| Forerunner 265, smartwatch mode | Up to 13 days | Garmin’s stated assumptions for this mode; always-on display use has a lower estimate. |
| Forerunner 265, smartwatch mode with always-on display | Up to 5 days | Garmin support estimate. |
| Forerunner 265, GPS-only activity without music | Up to 20 hours | Garmin support estimate. |
| Forerunner 265, SatIQ AutoSelect without music | Up to 16 hours | Garmin support estimate. |
| Forerunner 265, all-systems multi-band GPS without music | Up to 14 hours | Garmin support estimate; music further reduces GPS-mode runtime. |
Garmin’s figures are its current support estimates for the Forerunner 265, accessed October 13, 2026. Its support page says battery life can be affected by how the watch is used and that using the watch beyond listed assumptions can reduce runtime. Garmin battery-life estimates

For context, the smaller Forerunner 265S has different estimates: up to 15 days in smartwatch mode and up to 24 hours in GPS-only activity mode without music, according to the same Garmin support resource. It is a separate model, so those figures should not be attributed to the 265.
How to compare battery for your routine
- Mostly daily wear: compare smartwatch-mode estimates, whether the screen stays on, and which sensors and notifications you enable.
- Long outdoor workouts: compare GPS mode, satellite setting, music playback, screen behavior and paired sensors. Garmin publishes several GPS-mode estimates; Fitbit Edge’s cited claim is a mixed-use maximum rather than a comparable GPS-mode figure.
Because the manufacturers use different devices, test methods and usage profiles, the published numbers do not establish a controlled battery-life winner. There is no independent head-to-head battery test in the available material.

Which is better for health tracking?
Fitbit Edge has the broader published list of health and wellness features in this comparison, including an ECG app and several heart-rate and trend features. The Forerunner 265 pairs everyday wellness monitoring with more explicit running, recovery and training measures. Which is more useful depends on the information you want—not on a proven difference in sensor accuracy.
Fitbit Edge: health and wellness features
Google lists continuous and resting heart-rate tracking, advanced sleep tracking, skin-temperature sensing, SpO2, an ECG app, AFib detection, irregular/high/low heart-rate notifications, menstrual-cycle tracking, and monthly blood-pressure and insulin-resistance trends. It also lists Cardio Load, Readiness, Active Zone Minutes and VO2 max. Google Store specifications

Google describes the relevant trends as general-wellness and informational features, not tools for diagnosis or treatment. Google announcement

Garmin’s cited product comparison does not list an ECG app for the Forerunner 265; that observation applies to this model and should not be generalized to Garmin’s entire product range. No independent accuracy comparison for these devices’ health sensors is established here. Neither feature list demonstrates that one device measures a particular health metric more accurately.

Are either device’s health features medical advice?
No. Fitbit Edge’s maker explicitly limits several features to general wellness and informational use, and notes that availability and accuracy can vary. Consumer wearable readings should not be treated as a diagnosis or a substitute for professional medical advice. If a reading or notification concerns you, consult a qualified healthcare professional.
