Fitbit Edge vs. Fitbit Charge 6: Should You Wait for Google’s Rumored Tracker?

Fitbit Edge’s reported display and smart features may appeal, but its specs, price, and launch remain unconfirmed. Here’s what’s known before you choose Charge 6 or wait.

For now, Charge 6 is the only confirmed device in this comparison. Fitbit Edge remains a leak-based report: Google has not established its final specifications, price, or release date in the sources available as of October 7, 2026. If you need a tracker now, Edge is not a dependable alternative to buy; if you can wait and want a display with more phone-connected features, wait for an official announcement and independent testing before deciding.

What is actually known about Fitbit Edge?

The Edge name and feature details come from reporting on leaked retail assets and a comparison table, not Google product documentation. 9to5Google reported that Android Headlines shared the assets and that the table suggested a display, notifications, Google Maps, media and music controls, Find My Phone, Bluetooth connectivity, and Android and iOS support. Treat these as reported features, not settled specifications. 9to5Google’s report on the leak describes the claims.

A second report relayed more detailed specifications, including a 1.34-inch AMOLED display, Bluetooth 5.4, a 17.7-gram weight, IP68 and 5ATM ratings, and Android 11+ and iOS 16.4+ compatibility. It also reported ECG among the claimed health features. These remain unconfirmed leak details; the mention of ECG does not establish that it will be available in every country or have the same regulatory status as Charge 6. Android Central’s Edge report relays these claims.

Fitbit Edge vs. Charge 6: what can be compared?

The available evidence supports a comparison of confirmed Charge 6 ECG documentation with reported Edge features, but not a complete verified specification-by-specification verdict. The Edge column below is explicitly provisional; no equivalent Charge 6 values are included where they are not established by the cited material.

Display and controls Leak reports a 1.34-inch AMOLED display; the comparison table also reportedly lists media and music controls. Unconfirmed. Not stated in the sources cited here.
Apps and phone features Leak reportedly lists notifications, Google Maps, media and music controls, and Find My Phone. Unconfirmed. Not stated in the sources cited here.
Phone compatibility Leak reports Android 11+ and iOS 16.4+; unconfirmed. Not stated in the sources cited here.
Battery Leak reports up to seven days without always-on display, two days with it, and a five-minute charge said to provide 24 hours. These are not verified real-world results. Not stated in the sources cited here.
Health ECG is among the features attributed to the leak; availability and regulatory status are not established. Google documents compatibility with its ECG app, subject to regional availability and the app’s limitations.
Price and release No official price or release date established. Reported price estimates vary; see below. Not stated in the sources cited here.

There is no verified comparative evidence here for tracking accuracy, comfort, battery life in actual use, or overall value. A longer-looking feature list is not enough to show that Edge will outperform Charge 6 or be a worthwhile upgrade.

How much might Edge cost, and when could it arrive?

Reported pricing is not official. Android Central initially estimated a range of $149–$199. A later 9to5Google report relayed Dealabs figures of €179 and £159 and inferred a likely US price around $180. That dollar figure is an estimate, not a confirmed US MSRP; the euro and pound figures are leak-based too. 9to5Google’s price report explains the later figures and inference.

  • COMPLETE ALL-IN-ONE-BUNDLE: Includes Fitbit Charge 6 Black/Obsidian, rapid USB charger, and a premium microfiber cleaning cloth, – everything you need to start tracking in style.

Timing is also unsettled. Android Central speculated that Edge could launch later in October 2026, while 9to5Google said its release date remained unknown. Neither establishes a scheduled launch. Do not treat the speculative window as a confirmed release plan.

What does Charge 6’s ECG support actually mean?

Google’s help documentation confirms that Charge 6 is compatible with the Google ECG app. The app records a 30-second reading and analyzes it for signs of atrial fibrillation (AFib); it is not a diagnosis and cannot detect every heart condition. Google states: “Only a doctor can diagnose AFib, but the results of the assessment can let you know if your heart rhythm has signs of the condition.” Availability depends on supported regions. Google’s ECG app guidance describes compatibility, availability, and limitations.

Google says a clinical study involving 440 people found the algorithm correctly identified people with AFib 98.7% of the time and people with normal sinus rhythm 100% of the time. In that study, each participant had a simultaneous 30-second 12-lead ECG recording. These study results are not a general accuracy guarantee for every user or every heart condition. Google also says the app is qualitatively similar to a Lead I ECG for distinguishing AFib from normal sinus rhythm, while noting that it cannot detect all heart conditions.

Wait if Edge’s reported features are the reason you are shopping

If a display, Maps, notifications, or phone-finding features are what you want, waiting for Google to confirm Edge is more sensible than buying based on a leak. Look for an official specification and price, a real release date, and independent testing—especially for battery life, tracking, comfort, and how the apps work in practice.

Do not treat Edge as a confirmed upgrade

There is not enough verified information to say Edge is better than Charge 6, or even to establish a direct upgrade path. Until the product is announced and tested, the practical choice is between a confirmed Charge 6 and waiting for a rumored device—not between two fully documented trackers.
