Choose Fitbit Edge if you want a fitness-focused tracker that works with supported Android phones and iPhones, includes built-in GPS, and has a manufacturer-estimated battery life of up to seven days. Choose an Apple Watch if you use Apple’s ecosystem and want health and fitness tracking alongside a broader set of smartwatch and safety features. Neither is the universal winner: your phone, preferred features, and the particular Apple Watch model matter. The available product information does not establish an independent head-to-head test of their accuracy, comfort, or battery life.

Which one works with your phone?
Fitbit Edge supports eligible Android phones and iPhones
Google says Edge works with most phones running Android 11 or later and iPhones running iOS 16.4 or later. Setup also requires a Google Account, the Google Health app, an internet connection, and a smartphone for pairing. “Works with” does not guarantee that every feature behaves identically across platforms or regions; some features require Google Health Premium. Review Google’s Edge specifications and purchase FAQ for current requirements.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsCheck Apple Watch compatibility for the exact model
Apple Watch is a product family, not one fixed configuration. The Apple feature pages describe health and activity capabilities but do not document setup compatibility for each model. Before choosing one, verify the current requirements for that specific model and your phone rather than assuming the family’s features or compatibility apply uniformly.

What health information do they track?
Fitbit Edge: a broad set of tracker-based health metrics
Google lists 24/7 heart-rate tracking, resting heart rate, sleep tracking, skin temperature, blood oxygen (SpO2), ECG, AFib detection, and high- and low-heart-rate and irregular-heart-rate notifications. Feature access and availability can depend on the device, app, region, or a paid membership. Google’s Edge announcement also describes blood-pressure and insulin-resistance trends.
Those trend features are wellness information, not clinical readings or diagnostic tools. Google says they are not real-time clinical readings and should not be used to adjust medication or treatment. Do not treat a trend as a diagnosis or a substitute for care from a qualified clinician.

Apple Watch: health features vary by model and circumstance
Apple describes notifications for unusually high or low heart rates and irregular rhythms, plus the Vitals app, which can show metrics including heart-rate variability, heart rate, respiratory rate, and wrist temperature. Apple Health also describes cycle tracking and retrospective ovulation estimates for supported devices and circumstances. These are product features, not diagnoses; check Apple’s descriptions for the specific feature and model at Why Apple Watch and Apple Health.
Which is better for workouts and activity?
Fitbit Edge emphasizes GPS and workout tracking
Edge has built-in GPS, automatic activity recognition, heart-rate zones, an altimeter, and dozens of workout modes. Google’s pages give different counts: its specifications list 40+ exercise modes, while its announcement describes more than 50. “Dozens” is the clearest summary without treating those figures as interchangeable. Google also claims up to 40% improved GPS tracking accuracy versus previous generations; that is a company comparison, not an independent head-to-head result against Apple Watch.

Apple Watch connects workouts to Apple’s activity features
Apple describes Activity rings and workout tracking, along with metrics such as heart-rate zones, training load, power, elevation, and VO₂ max. Apple says the watch can measure cardiovascular health with VO₂ max, an estimate related to the maximum amount of oxygen the body can use during exercise. Available metrics depend on the model and circumstances. Apple also says users can review trends in the Fitness app.
How do battery life, charging, and durability compare?
Fitbit Edge has a stated battery estimate
Google lists up to seven days of battery life and says a five-minute charge can provide up to one day of use when the battery is low. The seven-day estimate comes from Google’s 2026 testing in California on preproduction hardware and software, using default settings and a median user profile; actual battery life may be lower. Treat both figures as manufacturer estimates, not guaranteed outcomes for every person or usage pattern. See the specifications for the stated details.

Google rates Edge as water-resistant up to 50 meters; its specifications also list 5 ATM and IP68. Google calls it its first repairable fitness tracker and says it has a replaceable battery. Replaceability is a stated design feature, not proof of a particular lifespan or repair cost.
Apple Watch needs a model-specific battery comparison
The Apple pages cited here do not give a directly comparable battery figure for a particular Apple Watch model. Battery expectations should therefore be checked against the current official specifications for the exact model you plan to buy, rather than generalized across the family.

What do they cost, and are subscriptions involved?
Fitbit Edge launch pricing and membership
Google lists Edge at $179.99 and the Stephen Curry Special Edition at $219.99. Google says the tracker is available for preorder, with retail shelves planned for October 27, 2026. Its launch offer includes three months of Google Health Premium; some features require a separately sold subscription, and Google Health Coach requires Premium, the app, and an internet connection. Price, availability, and the included offer can change, so confirm them with Google before purchase. These details do not establish total cost of ownership.
Apple Watch pricing depends on the model
There is no single Apple Watch price or configuration to compare with Edge, and the cited Apple feature pages do not establish a current price or directly comparable service cost. Compare the price and any service requirements for the particular model and region you are considering.
Which should you choose?
Choose Fitbit Edge if
- You want a tracker-focused wearable rather than choosing primarily for a wider smartwatch feature set.
- You use a supported Android phone or iPhone and want cross-platform compatibility within Google’s stated requirements.
- Built-in GPS and Google’s stated battery estimate are important to your decision.
- You are comfortable checking which features require a subscription and whether they are available in your region.
Choose an Apple Watch if
- You already use Apple’s products and services and want your wearable’s activity and health features within that ecosystem.
- You value Apple’s described combination of health features, workouts, Activity rings, and broader smartwatch and safety functions.
- You are willing to select a specific model and verify that it includes the features you want.
Pause before deciding if health accuracy is your main concern
The manufacturer feature pages do not establish which device measures health metrics more accurately. A longer battery estimate, a larger feature list, or a notification feature is not evidence of clinical superiority. If a reading could affect a medical decision, use an appropriate medical device and consult a clinician rather than relying on a wearable trend.
