Charge when the device shows a low or critically low warning. While charging, look for the charging indicator, then confirm completion with that model’s full-charge icon or light.
How to check the battery on your Fitbit
Use the gesture for your exact model; these examples are not exhaustive, especially for older or less common devices. Google’s navigation guide also shows the critically low battery symbol used on supported screen models.

A low or critically low indicator means it is time to charge. On Ace and Ace 3, the battery icon appears when one day or less remains; after a critically low warning, Google advises charging as soon as possible. Fitbit Air has a separate light system: its red-light thresholds apply to Fitbit Air, not other models. See Google’s charging instructions for the indicators described for each device.

How to tell whether it is charging or fully charged
A charging screen or icon indicates that the device has connected to power. The full-charge signal depends on the model: Google describes a solid battery icon at 100% for several devices, a green icon for Blaze, a solid battery icon with a smile for Charge 3 and Charge 4, and a solid white status light for Fitbit Air. Other legacy models may use their own icon or light pattern. Use the indicator for your model rather than assuming one symbol applies to every Fitbit.
Google says charging to 100% may take one to two hours; its estimate for Fitbit Air is about 90 minutes. Watch the device’s indicator to confirm completion instead of relying on elapsed time alone.

How to charge it safely
Fitbit devices use rechargeable lithium-ion batteries and model-specific USB charging cables. Google recommends connecting the cable to a computer USB port, a safety-certified USB wall charger, or another safety-certified low-energy power source. It recommends using the cable supplied with the device. Charge 5, Charge 6, and Luxe share a cable; do not assume that cable compatibility extends to other models. Check the exact model before using or replacing a cable.

A black screen immediately after connecting a fully depleted Fitbit does not by itself mean the battery has failed. Google says a device at 0% may remain black for several minutes before showing a screen. Its troubleshooting guidance for a black-screen device is to plug it into a wall outlet for 60 minutes.

- Check the connection. Make sure the cable stays attached and the device is aligned correctly in its charger.
- Inspect the contacts and pins. Check for dirt, debris, or charger pins that are stuck.
- Clean if needed. Google recommends gently cleaning the gold device contacts and charger pins with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol, and clearing debris. Follow the current official instructions for your model.
- Check the power source. Use a computer USB port, safety-certified USB wall charger, or another safety-certified low-energy source.
- Allow time, then seek help if needed. Leave a black-screen device plugged into a wall outlet for 60 minutes. If the official steps do not resolve the problem, contact Google Customer Support.
