The Fisher & Paykel CI905DTB3 is a 900mm induction cooktop with five cooking zones and an 11.1kW maximum output, according to CHOICE’s listing. CHOICE classes the model as discontinued and dates its test to “2023 or earlier.” Its detailed performance results are members-only, so this review cannot give a performance verdict. What it can do is set out the specifications, installation dimensions and buying checks that decide whether this model suits your kitchen and whether it is worth sourcing at all.
What the CI905DTB3 is

| Feature | Figure | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Cooking zones | Five: two SmartZones (middle and right), one dual zone (left) | CHOICE listing |
| Maximum output | 11.1kW | CHOICE listing |
| Warranty | Two years | CHOICE listing |
| Overall size | 90 x 53cm (900 x 530mm) | CHOICE listing; manufacturer data sheet |
| Product status | Discontinued | CHOICE listing |
| Heat settings | Nine | Model quick-reference documentation |
| Elements | Five | Model quick-reference documentation |
| PowerBoost | Up to 5500W | Model quick-reference documentation |
The two SmartZones and the left-side dual zone matter most for cookware. A SmartZone is designed to work as one larger heating area for a large pan, while a dual zone can run as a single area or as two separate ones depending on the pan. Check the exact pan sizes you use against the zone layout on the cooktop before assuming the surface suits your cooking.

The model quick-reference documentation gives a 220–240V supply and a 48A rating. At 230V, 48A works out to roughly 11kW, which is consistent with CHOICE’s 11.1kW figure, but that is our arithmetic rather than a rated value. Treat the electrical figures as model-document specifications. Confirm them against the appliance rating label and your local electrical rules before installation, and have a licensed electrician confirm that the circuit and cable can carry the rated load.

Installation dimensions and clearances
The 900mm nominal width does not tell you whether the cooktop fits a 900mm opening. The manufacturer’s data sheet gives separate figures for the glass surface, the chassis that sits under the benchtop, and the required clearances.
| Measurement | Figure (Fisher & Paykel data sheet) |
|---|---|
| Overall glass width | 900mm |
| Overall depth | 530mm |
| Chassis width | 855mm |
| Chassis depth | 482mm |
| Chassis height below benchtop (including terminal block) | 49mm |
| Glass height above benchtop datum | 5mm |
| Front control-panel depth | 85mm |
| Cooking-area depth | 442mm |
The data sheet also sets minimum clearances that must be respected when the cooktop is installed:

- Induction stoves rely on cookware to heat, so it’s essential to choose magnetic bottom cookware with a minimum diameter of 5 inches. Auto-pan detection will shut off automatically after 60 seconds if no cookware, or the incorrect cookware is detected
- Although induction itself is a noiseless process, there may be high pitched sounds from the cookware due to multiple layers of metals sandwiched together. Please allow the induction cooker to cool down before cleaning
| Requirement | Minimum |
|---|---|
| Cutout to combustible surfaces, sides | 25mm |
| Cutout to combustible surfaces, rear | 30mm |
| Benchtop to rear top of an oven or cabinetry below | At least 65mm |
| Glass surface to rangehood | 650mm |
| Benchtop to an overhead cabinet not directly above the cooktop | 450mm |
The data sheet appears to be around nine years old, so treat these figures as a starting point. Use the model’s installation guide for the exact cutout, and ask a qualified installer to confirm the cutout against your bench before buying.
What the review evidence can and cannot tell you
CHOICE’s public page shows the specifications above, a “Year tested” of “2023 or earlier,” and the discontinued status. The turn-down score, boil time, reliability, satisfaction ratings and other detailed results sit behind its members-only paywall, and they were not visible in the listing we checked in 2026. That means this article cannot state how the CI905DTB3 performed in testing, and no performance ranking should be inferred from the specifications alone. A high maximum output, for example, does not show how evenly or precisely the surface heats at low settings.

Buying a discontinued model
A discontinued status means the manufacturer no longer sells the model new. Availability in your market is what decides whether it is a sensible purchase. Work through these checks in order:
- Confirm the model number matches CI905DTB3 on the rating label or the packaging, not only on a retailer listing.
- Check whether new stock is still held by an authorised retailer in your country, and whether the warranty applies to that stock.
- If buying used or refurbished, ask for the date of purchase and any warranty transfer rules, because the two-year warranty listed by CHOICE may not carry over to a second owner.
- Compare the price with a current, equivalent 90cm induction cooktop with a published data sheet and independent test results.
- Measure your cutout against the figures in the installation section before you pay, including the 855 x 482mm chassis.
Comparing it with other 90cm cooktops
When you set the CI905DTB3 against an alternative, compare the same things on each model:
- Overall glass size and chassis size, and the cutout you need.
- Zone count, zone shapes and whether zones bridge for large cookware.
- Maximum connected load and the electrical circuit it requires.
- Whether the zone layout fits the pans you use.
- Accessible independent test results for the same model.
- Warranty length and local service coverage.
- Current price and whether the model is still sold new.
For the CI905DTB3, the first, second, third and sixth points are covered above. Confirm the rest for any alternative you consider, because the specifications for other models come from their own sources.
