Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsBuy by matching the stick to your TV first, then choose the model whose HDR support, remote and smart-home ecosystem fit your household—and compare the live price of that exact generation. For an HD-only TV, an HD stick is usually enough. For a 4K TV, compare specific 4K models: the 2025 Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Plus and Roku Streaming Stick 4K both list Dolby Vision and HDR10+, while Roku’s newer Streaming Stick Plus lists HDR10+ but not Dolby Vision.
Start with your TV’s resolution and HDR formats
A streaming stick cannot make an HD television display 4K. If your TV is HD-only and you are not planning to upgrade soon, compare HD models; Roku’s 2025 Streaming Stick (HD) supports up to 1080p, and Amazon’s Fire TV Stick HD (2026) is also an HD model. For a 4K television, compare 4K sticks and confirm the TV supports the HDR formats you care about.

HDR names are not interchangeable. Roku lists Dolby Vision and HDR10+ for its Streaming Stick 4K, but only HDR10+ for the Streaming Stick Plus. Amazon lists Dolby Vision and HDR10+ on the 2025 Fire TV Stick 4K Plus. The TV and the content must also support the format for it to matter; Roku specifies compatible equipment and content for its 4K/HDR playback.
Compare the exact models, not just the brands
“Fire TV Stick” and “Roku Streaming Stick” are product families, not single devices. The model year and generation can change the resolution, wireless features, operating system and included remote. These official specifications were checked against manufacturer pages on October 4, 2026; they describe features, not independent performance tests.

Amazon’s listed support for Dolby Atmos on the 4K Plus is a format specification, not a guarantee that every show, app or connected audio setup will use it. Check the model’s current listing and your sound equipment before making audio support a deciding factor.
What matters in everyday use
Wireless specifications are not speed tests
Amazon specifies Wi-Fi 6 on the 2025 Fire TV Stick 4K Plus and 2026 Fire TV Stick HD. Roku highlights long-range Wi-Fi on Streaming Stick 4K and specifies dual-band Wi-Fi on its HD stick. These are different specification claims, not evidence that one device will stream faster in every home. Router capability, placement and local network conditions also matter.

Choose the remote and voice assistant you will actually use
Roku’s product page specifies a voice remote with TV power, volume and mute controls that work with most TVs, and lists compatibility with Alexa, Google Home and Apple AirPlay/HomeKit. Fire TV models support Alexa, but remote features vary by generation, so check the exact package contents rather than assuming every Fire TV Stick includes the same remote. If one platform fits the household’s existing assistant or control habits better, that can be more useful than a small specification difference.

Roku says its sticks connect to a TV’s HDMI port. For Streaming Stick 4K, the 4K input must support HDCP 2.2, and Roku says its slim design is intended not to block neighboring HDMI ports. Still, inspect your TV’s port placement and clearance before buying. Roku’s HD stick and Amazon’s 2026 HD stick are described as TV-powered; do not assume that applies to every model. Check the exact box contents and whether the TV’s USB port can supply power as required.

Compare price and availability at checkout
Prices and promotions change, and the models are not direct equivalents if one is HD and the other is 4K. On October 4, 2026, Roku’s US product page displayed $79.99 for Streaming Stick 4K and limited-time offers on other models. Those are point-in-time vendor listings, not enduring prices. A comparable Amazon price was not stated in the cited Amazon specifications, so check the current Amazon listing against Roku’s live price and verify the model name before ordering.
Roku advertises “500+ free TV channels” on its Streaming Stick pages. That is Roku’s own product-page claim, not an independently audited count or a like-for-like comparison with Fire TV. App availability can also vary by region and change over time, so check whether the services you use are supported on the specific device.

Which one should you buy?
- For an HD-only television: compare Roku Streaming Stick (HD) and Fire TV Stick HD by current price, remote and ecosystem. Do not pay for 4K features unless you expect to use them on a compatible TV.
- For a 4K TV with Dolby Vision: compare the 2025 Fire TV Stick 4K Plus with Roku Streaming Stick 4K, then check price and the remote you prefer. Roku’s Streaming Stick Plus is not the same model and does not list Dolby Vision in Roku’s comparison.
- For a 4K TV without Dolby Vision: the Roku Streaming Stick Plus may fit if HDR10+ is the relevant format and its live price is attractive; compare it with the exact Fire TV 4K listing available to you.
- If ecosystem fit is the priority: pick the remote and assistant compatibility that best matches your home, after confirming the exact generation includes the controls you want.
There is no evidence here of a controlled head-to-head speed test, satisfaction survey or total-content comparison that would justify calling either brand universally faster or better. The useful decision is model-specific: resolution and format compatibility first, then remote, wireless specification, household fit and the price you can actually buy at.
