Samsung Electronics does not have one exchange-independent stock symbol. Its common shares trade on the Korea Exchange (KRX) as 005930, while its preferred shares use 005935. London-listed global depository receipts (GDRs) use SMSN for common shares and SMSEL for preferred shares. Check both the exchange and the security type before placing an order.

The KRX code 005930 is also identified as Samsung Electronics common stock’s listing code in a Korea Exchange filing. These are identifiers for different listings and instruments, not interchangeable spellings of one ticker.

- Identify the market your brokerage account can access. Look for KRX original shares or LSE GDRs; do not assume a search result with the company name is the listing you intend to trade.
- Choose the share class. Common and preferred shares have separate codes on each market: 005930 and SMSN are common, while 005935 and SMSEL are preferred.
- Confirm the identifier. If your brokerage interface supports ISIN search, match the ISIN in the table as well as the ticker. Verify the exchange and instrument shown on the order ticket before submitting an order.
Can international investors buy Samsung Electronics shares?
Samsung’s published investor guidance describes access through original shares on the KRX or, for eligible non-US residents, through LSE GDRs. It says US residents are prohibited from trading Samsung’s LSE GDRs under Rule 144A, and outlines a direct KRX route involving registration and Korean brokerage steps. What the GDR dividend route does—and does not—mean
Samsung’s investor-relations FAQ says dividends are paid in Korean currency through the Korean Securities Depository, converted to US dollars by Citigroup in New York, and distributed to investors. That describes a payment route; it does not make an LSE GDR and a KRX original share the same listing or symbol.

At the end of Q2 2026, Samsung Electronics reported 6,648,649,811 total shares outstanding: 5,846,278,608 common shares (87.9%) and 802,371,203 preferred shares (12.1%), according to its listing information. These are share counts, not a quoted share price or a recommendation to buy or sell.
