Start with your exact address in the FCC National Broadband Map, then confirm the options directly with providers. The map can show providers reporting service, connection technologies, and advertised speeds—but it does not prove that a plan is orderable at your specific unit, predict the speed you will receive, or tell you whether the price is affordable. Use it to build a shortlist, then compare each provider’s Broadband Facts label and verify the terms before you sign up.
How to find internet providers available at your address
- Search the exact address in the FCC National Broadband Map. Include the unit or apartment number when the map allows it. The map uses availability information submitted by providers and lists providers reporting service at the location.
- Record the reported technology and advertised speeds. The map can show fixed options such as fiber, cable, DSL, satellite, and fixed wireless, along with maximum advertised download and upload speeds. These details help identify candidates; they are not a guarantee of service or typical performance.
- Check the map’s filters. According to the FCC map guide, services below 25 Mbps download are hidden by default and can be revealed with filters. If the map appears to show no suitable options, check the filters before ruling out a provider.
- Make a shortlist of providers and plans to verify. Keep the listed technology and speeds with each provider’s name so you can check the same options when contacting providers or searching their order pages.
What the FCC map can—and cannot—tell you
The map is for availability discovery, not a test of service quality. The FCC states: “The National Broadband Map shows internet availability, not network performance, affordability, or adoption.” A provider listing therefore does not establish the speed you will experience, the plan’s full cost, or whether the service is a good fit for your household.

The FCC’s availability standard includes a provider’s existing or prior connection at a location, or the ability to initiate service through routine installation within 10 business days without extraordinary monetary charges or network-extension delays. That definition is useful context, but it still does not replace an address-specific order check. A provider may need to confirm the exact unit, installation conditions, available plan, and appointment timing.

Check the exact address on the provider’s own site or contact its sales or support team before choosing a plan. Ask whether the provider will sell service to your unit, what installation involves, when an appointment is available, and whether any site-specific charges apply. Confirm whether a modem, router, or other equipment is included, required, or available to rent.

If the provider’s answer conflicts with the map, save the details: the address entered, the provider’s response, any order attempt or error, and relevant installation information. These records can help if you decide to challenge the map’s availability information.
Compare the full plan using Broadband Facts labels
Look at the label for the specific plan you can order, rather than comparing only provider names or headline download speeds. Use the following fields to make an apples-to-apples comparison:
Rank #2
- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
- Monthly price over time: Note the current price, whether it is promotional, how long the promotion lasts, and the regular price afterward. For a longer-term comparison, use the recurring post-promotion price rather than treating an introductory amount as permanent.
- Fees and charges: Check provider monthly fees, one-time charges, taxes, and any early termination charge. Confirm which amounts are included in the advertised price and which may be added.
- Typical speeds and latency: Compare typical download and upload speeds as well as latency. A maximum advertised speed on the FCC map is not interchangeable with a plan’s typical-speed information.
- Data allowance: Find out whether the plan has a data limit and what happens if you exceed it, including any additional charges or other restrictions.
- Contract terms: Check whether a contract is required, its duration, and the consequences of ending service early.
- Discounts and bundles: Record what qualifies for each discount, how long it lasts, and whether it depends on buying another service or using particular equipment.
- Equipment and support: Check what equipment is included, whether you can use your own compatible equipment, and how to reach customer support. The label also points to network-management and privacy-policy information.
Verify unclear details with the provider, especially equipment compatibility and bundle conditions. Do not assume that a discount, included device, or quoted price applies indefinitely.
Choose based on the household’s needs and the plans you can actually order
There is no universally best connection technology for every address. A fiber, cable, DSL, satellite, or fixed-wireless label alone does not establish which plan is the right choice. Compare the specific plans available to you by full cost, typical download and upload speeds, latency, data terms, contract flexibility, installation conditions, and equipment requirements.
Rank #3
- Compatible with major cable internet providers including Xfinity and Cox. NOT compatible with Verizon, Spectrum, AT&T, CenturyLink, DSL providers, DirecTV, DISH and any bundled voice service. Best for cable provider plans up to 800Mbps.
Think about how the connection is used: for example, whether several people work or attend classes online at once, make video calls, stream video, play games, or connect many devices. Compare those needs with each plan’s typical speeds and other terms. The FCC materials provide useful comparison fields, but do not establish one speed tier that suits every household.

The FCC provides a process for challenging reported availability. If a provider says it cannot sell the listed service at your address, or the reported service or speed is unavailable for purchase, preserve the provider’s response and the other supporting details and consider submitting an availability challenge.

- MULTI-GIG DOCSIS 3.1 SPEEDS: Get Gigabit+ cable download speeds on today's fastest plans, with headroom for the upgrades ahead. Real-world speeds depend on your plan and ISP network.
- WIFI 6 COVERAGE FOR THE WHOLE HOME: Stay connected in every room with dual-band AX6000 WiFi 6 covering up to 2,500 sq ft and capacity for 30+ connected devices across your home. Real-world coverage depends on home size, layout, and building materials.

Keep an availability dispute separate from a performance problem. If you can buy the service but the delivered speed is lower than expected, that is a complaint about the service you receive, not proof by itself that the provider’s reported maximum advertised speed is unavailable for purchase. The FCC guidance treats those issues differently.
