For the quickest route, swipe down from the top-right corner to open Control Center, tap Focus, then tap Do Not Disturb. Its settings are at Settings > Focus > Do Not Disturb.
Turn on Do Not Disturb from Control Center
- Swipe down from the iPad’s top-right corner to open Control Center.
- Tap Focus.
- Tap Do Not Disturb. If another Focus is active, choosing Do Not Disturb replaces it.
- To choose when it ends, tap the Do Not Disturb control again and select an offered duration or endpoint, such as one hour or until the evening. The available choices can vary with context.
You can also turn it on in Settings > Focus: tap Do Not Disturb, then switch it on.

Choose who and what can notify you
Open Settings > Focus > Do Not Disturb to configure which people and apps are allowed to notify you, or which are silenced. Focus settings can also affect the Lock Screen, Home Screen, and app behavior. Apple describes Focus as a way to minimize distractions while concentrating on a task: Apple’s iPad Focus guide.

Go to Settings > Focus, select Do Not Disturb, and add a schedule. Apple documents triggers based on time, location, or opening an app; Smart Activation may also be available. If the options on your iPad differ, they may depend on its iPadOS version or configuration. See Apple’s instructions for setting up a Focus.

Turn Do Not Disturb off
Open Control Center, tap Focus, then tap the active Focus to turn it off. Alternatively, touch and hold the Focus icon on the Lock Screen and turn it off.
Why does Do Not Disturb keep turning on?
Check for an unwanted schedule in Settings > Focus > Do Not Disturb. Edit or disable it if a scheduled activation is causing the feature to return automatically. Apple lists scheduling as one reason Do Not Disturb can turn on by itself: Apple’s Do Not Disturb guidance.

Do Not Disturb and Downtime are different
Do Not Disturb is a Focus for managing notifications and interruptions. Screen Time > Downtime instead schedules time away from the screen and restricts app use, while allowing apps and contacts you choose. If your goal is to limit access to apps at certain times, look at Downtime rather than Do Not Disturb. Apple explains Screen Time and Downtime on iPad.
