In Windows 11, open Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, select the printer, then choose Open print queue. From there you can check pending work, cancel a job, or troubleshoot a queue that is paused or stuck.
Open the queue for the right printer
- Open Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the printer whose jobs you want to inspect.
- Choose Open print queue. Microsoft Support explains that “The Print Queue window opens and displays a list of the pending print jobs waiting to print on the printer.” View a printer’s print queue in Windows.
- If more than one queue is available, use the Printers menu in the queue window to verify which printer is selected before making changes.
Each queue belongs to a particular printer. Confirm the selected printer before canceling anything, especially if Windows lists multiple printers or copies of the same printer.

Cancel one job or clear the queue
Cancel a single pending job
In the queue window, select the job and choose Cancel. Use this when one document is incorrect, no longer needed, or blocking the work you want to print.

If you need to remove everything waiting in that queue, Microsoft’s offline-printer guidance includes a Cancel all option. This affects all pending jobs for the selected printer, not just the document you clicked. See Troubleshooting offline printer problems in Windows.

Check pause, offline status, and connection
If jobs remain pending, inspect the queue window’s Printer menu. If Pause Printing or Use Printer Offline is selected, clear the relevant option, then check whether the job proceeds.
- Confirm the printer is powered on.
- Check the connection that applies to your setup: Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or USB. For a network printer, verify it is connected to the network; for USB, check the cable connection.
- Check the queue again for an unintended pause or offline setting.

Reset spool files only for persistent problems
If ordinary cancellation and restarting Print Spooler do not resolve the problem, Microsoft’s reset procedure clears the spool files. This deletes queued print data, so it is not the normal way to remove a single job.
- Open the Services app and stop Print Spooler.
- In File Explorer’s address bar, enter
%WINDIR%system32spoolprintersand press Enter. - Delete the files in that folder.
- Return to Services, start Print Spooler, and set its startup type to Automatic.
Follow that order: stop the service before deleting the files, then start it again. Microsoft’s instructions are in Fix print spooler service not running errors in Windows.

If spooler failures keep returning
Repeated spooler crashes may be related to unnecessary, old, duplicate, or incompatible printer drivers. Review the installed printer drivers and remove ones you do not need; if the issue affects Windows printing more broadly, Microsoft directs users to the automated printer troubleshooter in the Get Help app. See Fix printer connection and printing problems in Windows.
