On a computer, open Google Calendar and use Add other calendars > Subscribe to calendar to find a calendar shared with you. If you already have access, it should appear under Other calendars. On a phone, you can view a calendar that has already been shared, but Google requires a computer browser to start a new subscription.
Find a calendar that was already shared with you
First, check the email account the owner shared the calendar with. Google sends a sharing email with a link to add the calendar; follow that link if it is available. If you use Android, Google’s instructions say to open the message and tap Open Calendar. Google Calendar Help: Subscribe to someone else’s calendar

You can also check Google Calendar on a computer. Shared calendars appear in the left-hand list under Other calendars. If the list is collapsed, expand it to see the calendars and select the checkbox beside the calendar name to display it.
Subscribe from a computer or request access
- Open Google Calendar in a computer web browser and sign in to the Google account the owner shared with.
- Beside Other calendars, click Add other calendars (the plus icon), then choose Subscribe to calendar.
- Enter the calendar owner’s email address. If the calendar has been shared with that account, select it to add it. If it has not been shared, Google says the owner will receive an access request. Google Calendar Help
A calendar shared with a different email address will not necessarily appear in the account you are currently using. Confirm the address with the owner, then switch to that Google account and check again.

View an existing shared calendar on your phone
Once a shared calendar is available to your Google account, you can view it in the Google Calendar app. On Android, open the app menu and check the calendar to show it; uncheck it to hide it. Google’s instructions say a new calendar subscription must be started in a computer web browser, not in the Calendar app for Android, iPhone, or iPad. Google Calendar Help: Use a calendar
Check what the owner’s permission lets you see
Being able to see a calendar in the list does not mean you can see every event detail. The owner’s sharing permission controls what appears. Google Calendar Help: Share your calendar

- See only free/busy (hide details): shows when the owner is busy, but hides event names and other details.
- See event details: can show event names, times, places, and descriptions.
- More access: some permission levels allow editing events or managing sharing, so a shared calendar is not always view-only.
Troubleshoot a missing calendar or sharing email
- Check the account. Make sure you are signed in with the exact Google address the owner shared with.
- Look for the invitation. Search your inbox for the sharing message and check spam or trash. Use its link to add the calendar if you find it. Google Calendar Help
- Try the computer subscription flow. In Google Calendar, go to Other calendars > Add other calendars > Subscribe to calendar and enter the owner’s email address.
- Ask the owner to share it. If access has not been granted, the subscription flow can send an access request. Ask the owner to confirm the email address and sharing permission.
- Contact your administrator if this is a work or school account. An organization may restrict calendar sharing or the permissions available to users. Google Workspace Learning Center: Share your calendar
When “Add by URL” is the right option
Use From URL only when the calendar is public. Google’s add-by-URL flow is not a way to get into a private calendar; the owner must share that calendar with your account. Google Calendar Help: Add a calendar by URL
