Sign in to Fidelity.com, open Accounts & Trade > Trade > Trade Extended Hours, then place an eligible limit order in the after-hours session. The session runs from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time on weekdays, excluding market holidays.
How to place an after-hours order on Fidelity.com
- Sign in to Fidelity.com.
- Choose Accounts & Trade > Trade.
- Select Trade Extended Hours.
- Select the Fidelity brokerage account you want to use, enter the security symbol and order details, and review the available quote.
- Choose a limit price, review the order, and submit it during the after-hours session.
Fidelity’s instructions describe this trade-entry workflow rather than a separate extended-hours enrollment toggle. A Fidelity brokerage account is required, but eligibility can depend on the account registration and the security; check the symbol in the trade interface. When Fidelity accepts after-hours orders
The after-hours session is 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, excluding market holidays. Fidelity’s extended-hours order screen is available during that window. Orders entered for the session do not carry into a later session: any unfilled order is automatically canceled at 8:00 p.m., unless trading is halted. To try again later, enter a new order.
Which orders and securities are eligible
Use a limit order
Fidelity accepts limit orders in extended-hours sessions; other order types are ineligible, and good-til-canceled orders are not available. A limit order sets the maximum price you will pay to buy or the minimum price you will accept to sell. It does not guarantee execution.

Check the specific security
Fidelity says certain stocks are eligible. Its extended-hours overview, published August 20, 2026, says listed equities and OTC equities may be traded, excluding pink sheets and bulletin-board stocks. Because eligibility is not universal, confirm that the symbol is accepted in the extended-hours trade flow.
What to check before submitting
Extended-hours trading can have less liquidity and different available prices than regular-session trading. Review the bid, ask, and displayed size before setting your limit price. With fewer buyers or sellers available, the spread may be wider and a submitted order may not fill, even if the price appears close to the current quote.

If you cannot find the extended-hours workflow
- Confirm that you are signed in to the account you intend to trade from and that it is a Fidelity brokerage account.
- Check the security symbol in the trade interface; not every account registration or security is established as eligible.
- If the menu or symbol remains unavailable, ask Fidelity customer service to confirm eligibility rather than assuming a setting must be enabled.
