For example: -stream_loop -1 -i input.mp4. That tells FFmpeg to repeat that input indefinitely; it will not fix every cause of a stopped stream, so check the command and exit log if the process still ends.
Use the loop option on the input that should repeat
FFmpeg documents -stream_loop as an input option: -stream_loop 0 means no looping, while -stream_loop -1 means infinite looping. Because it applies to an input, put it before the corresponding -i.

-f flv "rtmp://a.rtmp.youtube.com/live2/STREAM_KEY"This is a pattern, not a tested or guaranteed YouTube configuration. Choose encoding or stream-copy settings for your actual media, check which audio and video streams the file contains, and confirm the current destination setup in YouTube Studio. Replace the example destination with the one appropriate to your setup, and keep your stream key private.
If video and audio are separate inputs
Identify every -i in the command. Set looping for each input that needs to repeat, before that input’s -i. A loop configured for the video input does not automatically make a separate audio input loop too.

Find out what actually stopped
“YouTube stopped” does not by itself identify the failure. FFmpeg may have reached the end of an input, exited after an error writing to the destination, hit a duration limit, or been terminated by a shell, process manager, or host shutdown. The platform may also show a different state from the FFmpeg process.
- Capture the evidence: save the exact command with the stream key redacted, the FFmpeg version, and the full terminal output from startup through exit.
- Check the input option order: confirm
-stream_loop -1appears before the-ifor the file that should repeat. - Look for a configured stop: check for options such as
-tor-to. FFmpeg’s-toutput option stops writing after the specified duration. - Check the process and host: determine whether FFmpeg exited, was stopped externally, or lost power or network access.
- Check YouTube Studio: inspect the current stream status and setup there rather than inferring a YouTube-side cause from the FFmpeg message alone.
Without the command and complete exit log, the exact cause cannot be identified reliably.

Check audio duration and output-stop options
If video and audio come from separate files, inspect the duration and looping behavior of both. The -shortest output option ends the output when the shortest input ends, so a finite audio input can stop an output even while video is looping. Remove or change it only after checking what the command is intended to do.
A specialist YouTube Live tutorial uses generated silent audio for a video-only file and cautions against -shortest in an infinite-input example. Treat that as tutorial guidance, not an official YouTube requirement; the right audio setup depends on the command and media.

Do not confuse HTTP input reconnects with looping or RTMP retries
FFmpeg’s HTTP protocol options address HTTP input behavior. The documentation says reconnect_at_eof treats EOF as an error and can be useful for live or endless streams; related options cover certain HTTP disconnects and network errors. These settings neither loop a local MP4 nor guarantee that a failed RTMP publishing connection will recover.
Use -stream_loop for a local file that should repeat. Investigate input reconnect options only when the input is an HTTP stream and the failure fits that situation.

Investigate stability only if FFmpeg keeps running
A process that exits after one pass is a different problem from a process that remains alive while the stream buffers, drifts out of sync, or shows a visible seam at the loop point. If FFmpeg is still running and output continues, inspect encoding compatibility, timestamps, audio/video duration alignment, and network stability using the actual logs and media.
A specialist tutorial discusses pre-encoding video, copying it during a long-running loop, and encoding audio, alongside possible drift and timestamp warnings. These are troubleshooting leads, not universal requirements. Do not change encoding or timestamp behavior just to address a process that is actually exiting.
